- Basically... Get "open camera" and fiddle with the settings. If your phone doesn't have much memory and u have kit kat or above, get nextapp SD fix (which sadly requires root) and fix it and now open camera should be able to have into SD card.
6 years ago people could explain much much better than UA-camrs now. Thanks
I just did my first vid on the galaxy s7 and I didn't know that it cuts you off after 4gb. Thank you for this info, I truly appreciate it.
7 years later and still the best solution on youtube. Thank you !!
Thanks.....i recorded a 28 min video and sure enough only 5 min of it uploaded and i was like.....wtf. now let me get rid of some unnecess apps to load up open camera. Your video was very helpful
My problem is that my phone will continue recording beyond 30 minutes. However it will do so in a separate video for another 33 minutes and 10 seconds. I just want to be able to record a full hour without the video being separated into two 30 minute videos.
Miss Bleu sadly, you cannot do that, Android cannot make a video file bigger than 4gb, so whenever a video file reaches 4gb, it will stop and make a new file. you will either have to use a dedicated video recorder, a DSLR ir simply combine the two videos later in a video editor
Buy an Iphone. Problem solved.
@@Partikkus iphone has the same problem idiot
@@smokingpacman best video editor to combine videos?
@@omairtariq5501 I use Sony Vegas on pc
You wasted almost 9 minutes to say that the 4GB limit is a system requirement (but not mentioned that this is the FAT32 file system's file size limitation), and OpenCamera just restarts recording after each 4Gb (~30 min recording in FHD) segment.
Péter Kiss yeah I am pissed. Made a 90 minute video last night and it's chopped up. I need to get it all together lol. This was a waste of damn time.
Peter, this sentence of yours just made my day and saved 9 mins of my life.
@@jefferytoh351 Same here :) Thanks :)
How to get around this. How can a record a 1:15 video straight through?
@@thefittestyogi use an ipad.....no limit on file size.
Thx for explaining how that camera works and it really helped.
UPDATE 9/2019: My S8+ OEM camera app automatically creates new files every 30 min. Problem is, there's a glitch when connecting them together as one video (I use Avidemux or ffmpeg in Linux ).
I'm going to try Open Camera because the native app doesn't show remaining record time, only elapsed, plus the above-mentioned glitch every 30 min.
1st step, though, will be to reformat my microSD card to exFAT. Another video says that's where the 30 min (4gB) limit comes from.
Update 9/11/19: Using OpenCamera, the timer still only shows elapsed time, not time remaining. There is a number showing how much SD card space remains.
The 64gB card was already formatted to exFAT. So the format wasn't the cause of the 30 minute limit.
I installed OpenCamera. It didn't make a difference. A new file automatically starts when one is full. There is still a glitch between two files when joining them, so I want to get rid of this limit.
I did go to OpenCamera's settings and set the Max Duration to "none" and "Max File Size" to 9gB. It had been set at "Device Default." It made no difference. I still have the limit.
For some reason OpenCamera first recorded files UPSIDE DOWN! ffmpeg fixes this without re-writing the frames, but geez, where does that "feature" come from? Those files were recorded with the Front (selfie) camera set to save the files so writing isn't reversed. Maybe that is a factor? This is an extra step which shouldn't be needed. Using the rear camera, it does not reverse.
Anyone have further thoughts?
For the Open Camera App, can you also upload videos to UA-cam by using the Open Camera App?
My Android records for bout 25 min then I get a message saying video limit reached and it will immediately start a 2nd video and keep recording on the 2nd video...and I don't know how to splice together videos
Thank you very much for this, very useful indeed!
GOOD JOB ANDREW !! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE GREAT HACK.
I need help, I recorded 1 hour video through my Xiomi note 9pro but after recording I didn't find in my mobile. Please help me how can I get my video, it's my important lecture in that video , please suggest me something.
It is very very very helpful i love you bro
Even ifnwe set the open camera app to unlimited?
I am very distressed today since ii tried recording a top video of a painting I'm progress and it stopped around 35 minutes.. even if I set the camera app to unlimited duration will it still after 30 odd seconds.amdnif I do set to restart will it restart without cutting out any painting sessions in between.
I don't see the point of the app having duration setting to unlimited when it doesn't apply to the phone being used
Please could you advise me. I have so distraught
I had to redo the same painting 3 Times and each time it was a mess. I am very upset 😭😭😭😭
I have like 9 MINUTES on the camra time and u reached me nothing and my android sucks so....
Thank you i feel much safer now
Mine actually record fine but it's a new video every 30 minutes
I understand that reformatting the microSD card to exFAT fixes that. I'm going to try that tonight.
i opened up the nextapp and it says error platform permission file is invalid?
Thank you so much for showing me this app 👍
Will there be framedrops when putting the split files together?
Djumeneik I'm not sure, you're going to have to test it yourself :/
thank u I needed a longer video
Open camera segments all of the vids. How do I consolidate them? I want one long vid not several. Thanks.
tranquility unfortunately open camera doesn't stitch them together so you will have to do that on computer.
And as far as I know there aren't that many apps on android for video editing due to the limited computing power of smartphones.
Look I know that this a late reply. But try Kinemaster
Bruh my camera only records for about 10 min to 1 min or 3
bro you are a diamond... i have s4 too lol yeah i like em. so thanks for this. :D
roses are red no one is blue this guy is so AMAZING
Can you recover a video. I have a 9 minutes video and stop playing after 3 min.?
What is good video editing software to use on your computer to join the segments?
I use Sony Vegas, it's pretty versatile
@@smokingpacman thank you
Does this work on iPhone
My note 10 does the segmentation automatically. What i want to do is one solid video .
Hello, unfortunately, due to the limitations of Android and how it encodes videos, that's not possible :( The only way to have a continuous video would be to stitch it together with a video editor.
i appreciate your info. How do i fuse the videos together?
You're going to need to do it on pc or using a video editor on phone
But i cant puase it
WHAT VERSION OF OPEN CAMERA YOU ARE USING SIR?
Raymond Perater I was using the latest version back when the video was made but I believe it can still be done in current versions.
I have a samsung galaxy s7 edge my camera can record 1080p 60 frame per second or 1440p in 30 fps or 4k in 30 fps but open camera not able to give me the full resolution of my camera and instead of recording at 16 megapizel it record only at 8 mega pixel with give me ugly video longer but ugly
SpartASMR you should be able to go to settings and change that
My Google pixel two does this already. I want it to combine three videos into one big video
Next Level Gamer you're going to have to get a video editing software and stitch the files together

Thank me is starting a channel on my phone
I have coolpad porto and I can't root my phone..I can record video just 5 minutes and thats it.please help ps my english is shit
NickyTV have you checked your phone settings first to see if there is a limiter? if not try turning down the resolution. can you tell me what happens after 5 minutes? is there an error message?
when you check settings, make sure you check the camera app settings
Andrew Wei it says ,,you don't have memory'' or something like that
i think your phone may have run out of storage, you may have to take all the videos and photos off your phone to clear up some space so you can take longer videos otherwise you won't be able to take videos at all
Andrew Wei thanks
nice idea. thanks
Thank u my brother

Sorry for late reply, i didnt know you were responding to a question asked earlier, what phone are you using?
I cleared space on my s6 to 5.5 gig and the video time increased from 30 min to 45min
this is hard
Flamer Movies do you need help?
well yeah
what do you need help with?
making them longer because my timer is 1:34 min
the videos are 1:34 most likely because you are recording in 4k, so first thing you should try is recording in 1080p 30fps or 60fps. 4k chews up memory fast. secondly, there is probably no way to bypass the 4gb limit because this is how they designed android, what this video does is allows the camera to renew itself every time the file size is around 4gb but in order to get a longer video, you're going to have to stitch the small chunks together afterwards with a video editor
