I hope they'll have another update where later amiibo figures will be usable. I would love to have a Pit outfit for my Mii.
I begin to wonder how I'm going to explain to my parents, as a High School freshman, when I go out to buy these little... toys, just for my Wii U. They're gonna say, "Aren't you a little old for toys?" My response would be, "These aren't toys! They're little figures that I can place on my Wii U to play with" which sounds even worse because that sounds *exactly* like "toys" and a little nerdy. :P

I wondered what other costumes for the Miis when we can might add with the other amiibos that we haven't saw in the trailer yet like Marth, Ness, Zelda, Pikachu, Shulk, Ike, and other characters to see what they'll look like in Mario Kart 8.
That could be a possibility when Animal Crossing x Mario Kart 8 arrives. I can sense expanded amiibo functionality for gaining more racing suits happening when Animal Crossing x Mario Kart 8. As for the characters you've mentioned, like Marth, Ness, Zelda, Pikachu, Shulk, and Ike, or characters like the Villager(obvious choice since it's ANIMAL CROSSING X Mario Kart 8), heck maybe even the Wii Fit Trainer amiibos could be possible. A Kirby amiibo can be used, and Kirby's not even first-party(He's second-party), so those characters are possible.
It sucks that Link will be the only non-Marioverse character that will truly be playable, but if this is the closest thing we'll get to having Fox, Captain Falcon, and Kirby, I'll take it. Even better that we can use those amiibos for more than one game
Villager and Isabelle from Animal Crossing are already confirmed DLCs for the next round in 2015!

Gotta be honest, this kind of functionality isn't gonna make Amiibo a success. This is like a tiny added bonus.
Yeah, if the figures unlocked the fighters themselves as racers, now THAT would be a selling point.
PootieWienerfish Agreed or maybe add special abilities to the Mii racers, but just a funny suit, I don't think I would spend money on a toy just for that, they need to make them more attractive and useful
If they made it any bigger, you know people are going to complain like it's integral paid DLC.
Besides, let's not forget that that one Amiibo can be used for multiple games, so it's not like you're getting it only for one game, hopefully.

The Amiibo could hint Future DLC Courses, like the Next Wave having one from Animal Crossing, Kirby and Metroid.
It would be cool to be able to race or battle against your amiibo and level it up like Smash Brothers.

Here my better idea for using amiibos in mario kart 8:While being in race and placing the amiibo on your game pad you will get the special item based on each character but you can use a amiibo power only one time per race.
List for abilities: (mostly based on ssb)
Mario:Fireball
Luigi:That missle attack
Pacman: Turn into pacman and chomp enemies
donkey kong:Big banana peel
capitain falcon:falcon punch

The Captain Falcon amiibo costume kinda looks like Captain Falcon, especially when he's in the Blue Falcon on the Mute City track.

So we get the Blue Falcon, Mute City as a course, but no Captain Falcon to play as. Instead we've got two MORE variants of Mario and Peach. Makes sense...
Beyond having cool figures of Nintendo characters, Amiibo isn't really impressing me here. They should let you play as the character themselves in whatever game they're compatible in.
Having Captain Falcon as a playable character would be a bad thing for F-Zero. Think about it. Having the only iconic character of a racing game that hasn't seen a release in years become playable in another, more popular racer would make it seem like Nintendo has given up on the F-Zero franchise, no?

What they're doing right now is the way to do it, then. Putting in the main character could send the wrong message.

Stop making excuses for Nintendo. Defend them from hate if u wish, but criticism from fans is essential if they intend on catching up too the ps4 in sales. The actual characters themselves being added would've made this so much better.

Looks like Captain Falcon will be added to my Amiibo collection along with Kirby, Sonic, and Duck Hunt Dog. I might also get Pacman Megaman and Shulk Amiibo's to have those costumes in the game. But the Costumes alone aren't enough to get me to buy every Amiibo.
I hope Sonic Mii will look as good as Captain Falcon Mii in the game.
I hope the Bowser Jr. Mii won't be the closest thing we get to Bowser Jr. in this game.

What makes you think every amiibo will be a Mii costume?
Why wouldn't they. If only a few amiibos' are compatible with more games than just smash. Then the other amiibo's won't be as useful and won't be bought as much as the others.

If nintendo really want to sell these they need to find interesting ways to incorporate them into games like how it is being used with super smash brothers! Tiny bonuses like an extra costume isn't really going to make people want to buy these.
Amiibos work across Mario Kart and Smash. Therefore if you buy one figurine it will work across a load of different games. Sure the costumes in and of themselves might not be enough to make you buy an amiibo, but when you consider that with one purchase you get the costumes, Smash functionality as well as all sorts of bonuses later down the line it makes them worth the purchase.
Except that they were able to do that with Smash because these were being developed at the same time as Smash. Mario Kart 8 was already released by then. It was probably quicker to develop in time to limit it to just being able to scan in costumes.
Considering future games down the line are supposed to be compatible w/ these things, it's likely that future games will have functionality similar to Smash.
Those are two really good points.
You've got to remember though so far we have only seen footage for games that came before the amiibo's did, so they won't have as much content as the games in the future will have.

Is expecting more but this is fine the amiibos work with a lot of games in the future so it's not really bad if you just buy one which I'm going to try and buy a lot of them I mainly buying the ones I really want now so Kirby, Samus, and little Mac you're coming with me

I can't wait for Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Master Quest 3D U HD Gold Edition, it'll be like my 10th copy of the game but I'm purchasing it because I feel like I have to and have nothing better to do with my green paper and metal.

No, you don't have to touch it to the GamePad every time you want to wear a costume, it automatically saves the costume as you could see in the video.

Should have just put Captain Falcon in instead of Cat Peach or whatever. Would be better if using the amiibo's could add character specific kart pieces to better kart stats or something.

Anyone have any idea why the Prime 1 version of Samus is used at 0:17? I ask this because going off of Smash Bros, I figured they were going to use Other M for everything until a new games comes out, yet they seem to have suddenly remembered that the Prime Trilogy exists. why would costumes effect racing?
They do, the captain falcon costume gives you maximum boost and overall speed, but thats why that figurine is the most expensive. Gonna get it and boost my VR!
