    Looks really interesting. Only thing I don't really like at first glance is their Civ-vibed portraits.
    But a new spin on the 4X genre is always welcome.

    I will also say here, very happily, that I won't say no to another CIv-like game out in the market. I love Civ6, Humankind and Old World equally.....so Ara will be a nice addition to that group I feel.

      I agree! I have a feeling it’s going to be a big few months for historical strategy gamers 👀

    It looks closer to Humankind than Civ VI, with the missions, the points system, and the way the map is divided up. The tech tree looks similar to the Old World system where you get a limited choice each time you start researching a new one. Throw in some Total War too. Not a bad combo. It looks interesting, and I'm looking forward to seeing more.

    I've said this before, but i hope that the end of age civilization elimination mechanic gets a bit more lenient. A la "your civilization is crumbling! You must recover by (X) or your civ will fall into dust

    The simultaneous turns reminds me of the board game Diplomacy. Could be very interesting. I'm glad you're covering this. I'm on the fence on this one, but coverage from someone who's reviews I have come to trust definitely makes a difference.

    Great video. The more I see of ARA, the more I'm getting hyped for it. It's definitely going into my growing 4x Strategy library when it finally releases. Can't wait to play

    TECH DRAW adds a random element in this game is something I'm ALREADY ENJOYING in CIV 6 using the random technology game mode LOVE IT every game is exciting and unique and i guess 4x also came to the same conclusion!

    It looks interesting and I hope it's a decent, I'm a sucker for 4X games, been so since I was a Kid, even though I had no idea what I was doing. I never like it when 4X games fail. I do hope though when the Era ends, the Empires who don't make the cut, don't just vanish into nothing, it would be weird for an empire to just vanish and nothing be left but empty space, so maybe they break down into smaller powers maybe or become ruins?

    Gtaphic style is taking a step back from the cartooney Civ6 towards Civ5. Looks pretty great. The sweet spot IMHO.

    What a great time for turn-based global strategies. First Old World then Millenia and now ARA. I am very excited to see this game but I dislike it’s cartoonish style honestly.

    Looks interesting. I really want more games to compete with CIV as I feel like CIV 6 got a bit lazy, especially on release it felt bareboned.

    Thanks for the update. I did some of the insider stuff. Not sure how I feel about it or whether I’ll buy. I’m about done with preordering after Victoria 3 and CK3. I felt neither met my expectations and would rather watch for a while first.

    The combat taking place on a simultanious turn looks interesting, and I hope they have taken notes from Oriental Empires and how that game did it. It was simple yet interesting way of handling two armies bumping into each other.

      Big fan of OE here. Loved the way you could set the stance of troops. Loved the siege dynamic. Love the zoom out, zoom all the way in feature. Great game.

    I'm pretty unsure. At least in the gameplay showed here, I just find the map and UI really boring looking. It looks dull. Unless I've missed a feature there really isn't anything that catches my eye either. Not like OW or Humankind. This is a big wait and see for me.

    Drawing from tech decks is a plus. It is too easy to min/max the tech trees of CIV and Humankind. Random techs, with hopefully random development options within each tech drawn, would enhance re-playability significantly. Love the art. But many other features, e.g. leaders and prestige system, look derivative.

    I quite like the unconventional leader choices in this game. Not restricting it to people who held the title of King, President or whatever gives you so many more options. I've never heard of Cesare Beccaria before but he sounds like a really interesting man and a cool figurehead for a civic/law focused Italy.
    As a Brit I think it would be great to see William Shakespeare leading a cultural England or Alan Turing leading a science focused Britain. It would be better than getting Queen Elizabeth or Victoria for the 100th time!

    The art style is a bit like a smoother more modern civ 4 imo. It's fine, but not great. Some civ 4 mods used historical paintings or portraits for leaders, I think that's more interesting than using 3D leader models at this point. The particular bonuses also don't look that inspiring imo.

    • @mikaelsanchez6426
      @mikaelsanchez6426 Рік тому +1

      I prefer it to the cartoony style of civ 6, just because none of it is particularly offensive. Civ 6 is very pretty sometimes, but then you look at a particular unit model or graphic and it just hurts your soul.

  • @FunLion
    @FunLion Рік тому +3

    Sorry to be negative but I really dislike the art style or rather the complete lack of an art style.
    Character models look misplaced and the engine needs better lighting, animations and a more organic map design.
    Something to make it appealing rather than just a collection of 3D models on a flat surface.
    Humankind had a similar problem but in my opinion it made up for it with its amazing art.

    I don't like these games having leaders. It makes no sense. Why is Joan of Arc alive from 4k BC until the space age?

    • @BiNumLi
      @BiNumLi Рік тому +1

      Leader models really bother me too. In truth any given leader occupies center stage for a tiny fraction of a civilizations life span. Many other leaders before and after would cumulatively have much more impact than that one face. Perhaps in religion you might say a leader/prophet has enduring impact. But much less so in science, culture, politics, military, or government. Now we see why the ancients were so obsessed with monumental constructions. It was a middle finger to their own mortality and ultimately their insignificance.

    • @Benji567891

      Also why is Joan of Arc the ''leader'' for France, she was no where close to being a French leader.

      With roguelike elements such as focus on the player build and randomized tech and terrain you have to adapt to instead of repeating the same thing every game.
