    This is the best watch model from Casio! I had many Casio watches, but only these really liked the design and convenience. They lie perfectly on my hand! The watches are very beautiful, graceful. When compared with the lcw-m100, this model has a more complex and beautiful body. The functionality is excellent, there is everything. And radio synchronization and solar battery and stopwatches with timers, etc. The clock is still being produced. I bought in Japan. Production date is March 2018. Thanks for the review, because of you, I chose this model!

    I have had this watch for 2 years. It is absolutely brilliant, pretty much the perfect watch.
    I purchased it after lots of research; the features, size and look of it are superb.
    The size for me is perfect, sadly my wrist isn't too chunky so the Edifices etc. look a bit daft.
    It looks great with a business suit or jeans.
    Therefore I cannot believe it has been discontinued by Casio :(
    Why, Casio, why? You have created the perfect watch!

    Atomic solar quartz is the path that I have picked for minimal effort to maintain.

    I bought mine years ago and love it. I'd had hybrids (analog/digital) before and was looking for another. It annoyed me that most contemporary watches were too large for my small wrist and more about fashion than function. This thing is awesome, yet, despite its complexity, quite easy to use. There is not an obvious solar cell set into the face. Apparently, the entire face is a solar cell--neat! It gives the device an energy budget large enough to support two LCD displays, a radio receiver and a stepper motor to reset the hands when you move to a different time zone or go from DST to standard time. As I'm retired and living in the age of cell phones, I don't wear it every day, yet it sees enough light and manages power so well that it stays charged on my dresser. I've never had to move it to a sunbeam. I live in California, but spend weeks at a time in Hawaii. On the west side of the Big Island, it can't receive WWVB, but the internal timebase is so good that the error after 6 weeks is negligible. Clearly, the engineers were given free rein and not constrained by marketing. How wonderful!

    I bought one of these as a "beater" so I didn't need to use my Breitling Aerospace all the time. My Waveceptor is the titanium version. Verdict after a month of use?
    Pros: super light (75g), never fails to pick up the radio signal even without putting it by a window (I'm about 550km from the transmitter in Mainflingen), excellent backlight, in normal use the charge indicator never goes below Medium, lots of functions, never have to change the battery, ultra-precise, super easy to adjust the bracelet, and I like how it looks.
    Cons: It feels slightly cheap (again, the light weight...), the hands often cover the small dial or the digital displays, the right part of the upper diplay is really hard to read.
    All in all, I love it.

      If you don't like light watches you probably should skip a titanium one.

    You've complained before about watches being too small on your wrist but honestly it looks fine. I think you just have to get used to the look.

      Yeah, I just like my watches a tad bigger. 42mm - 45mm is my sweet spot.

      Further to my comment, I have to agree - please don't put Casio off from producing the occasional medium sized watch. If you have chunky wrists like the reviewer that's great because there are loads of Edifices and other cool looking watches available. For the more slim build guy like me the big ones look ridiculous - this one is spot on the right size. It is slightly smaller than the other Waveceptor watches. And yes, it looks great in real life :)

  • @dxl5058
    @dxl5058 6 років тому +6

    We get that the watch is smaller than you'd like. You should have made more of a point of the solar power. The combo of total accuracy and eternal battery makes Casio WaveCeptor the perfect set-and-forget watch technology. I have the earlier WVA-M640-1ER which replaces the mode dial with pusher controls - this makes the face less cluttered, and looks bigger.

    I bought this in March of 2020 for only $130 and it's a great value. Keeps time super-accurately and looks great. I was able to download an English manual on the internet. Neat thing: Every 10 seconds the minute hand jumps forward slightly.

    I bought a Casio lineage at the beginning of January 2022 from ebay used for 44€ total. but not this one. An older one. It is as I am writing this, 13 years and 4 months old but still runs on the OEM battery. Receives every other time signal from the German tower 🗼, and it ist very thin, as it doesn't have a seconds hand. Amazing everyday watch for work.

    Nice thorough review.
    I just purchased this watch and am patiently awaiting delivery.
    In your review, you say that a successful receive has not been done since August of 2016. The format of the last successful receive date is MM/DD, no year, so the last receive was August 16 of any year since the inception of the M300D series, which I believe was 2010.
    Just clarifying.
    Checked out some of your other reviews - Good stuff!

    I bought te WVA-M650 model after watching this review! I don't know if it's the direct successor to the watch that you have, or if it's another category of Wave Ceptor watches (because it hasn't the Lineage brand on the dial) but everything else is the same. The only other exception is that the model that i have is 100M WR. Anyways, IMO it is a superb and nearly perfect everyday watch. Very comfortable, accurate and since it's a Casio, I imagine it will be very reliable as well. Cheers!

      There are 3 different tiers of this solar atomic watch... maybe even 5 teirs.
      Order is...
      Wave cepter, then Lineage and finally Oceanic.
      And on the side you have your G-shocks (and trek, though often trek is minus the atomic function or at least for under 200 bucks its missing atomic.)

      WWVB is mostly east, but slightly south east from me. I should be inside of the range bubble but I don't have a window facing that direction so ERR code when trying to manually sync. I'll let it try overnight and report back, I'll also try it several times outdoors and let you all know. Thanks!

      Last update, Left my Casio on my bedroom window sill and expected nothing in the morning. Surprisingly when I woke up the watch said it updated at 01:03AM. I compared the time to current live time and was amazed to see the seconds on my watch and the seconds on my computer screen were perfectly in sync. Pretty insane you can get perfect time for free because of 1 radio station.

    Yeah... typically these japan market watches have been imported already and they can't get synced up because they are set to Japan time... so they are trying to connect to the japan atomic signal, which is way too far away.

    How do you charge the watch and how often is this needed?

    • @sunsetsam33
      @sunsetsam33 3 роки тому +1

      It's solar, so it's charging whenever it's in any light. My Lineage never needs charging as it stays fully charged just by wearing it in normal room light during the day. I have had solar watches that would run down in the winter if I wear long sleeves all day, but then I would just park it under a LED light at night and problem solved. If you hate having the change watch batteries solar is a great alternative.

    I like this watch 'in theory' but it just doesn't pass the "squint your eyes and can you still tell the time' test and it's just too messy. Ended up getting a LCW-M170

      It will disable if you're on a time zone that is considered too far away from the 4 that are scattered around the world... such as Australia, for example... these watches won't even try to sync up if you set the home time to an Australian city...

    this review was very helpful, going to get it for myself a gift for finishing my masters thesis, I am curious however, what is the accuracy of this watch without synchronization, like how many seconds does it drift off if its not synchronized for a week?

    • @coachafella
      @coachafella 5 років тому +3

      I have a Casio Lineage. I live about 1800 miles from the atomic clock radio transmitter in the US. I've gone about 5 days max between radio signal syncs and it's never been off by even .5 sec, probably a couple of 1/10ths at most. The spec is +- 15 sec/month, or .5 sec/day, but mine is much better than that. I've heard Japanese watches typically operate better than spec, and that's certainly true with mine. Another thing to be aware of there's a smartphone app that can be used to sync the watch. It uses a radio signal generated by the phone speaker, so worst case you can use that to sync the time on the watch if needed. I've used the app and it works fine. One other point, the day/date is perpetual until 2099 even without synchronization, so no worries about that. I'd highly recommend this line of watches.
