    That specific quote is by someone else, and while it may seem a little extreme for this context, it is pretty true and does make a pretty good point in general, this just may not be the context for it, but it does make sense.
    As for Weak3n, we all should know by now not to really take his takes serious because of his track record of things he says and posts/reposts, especially the "well what about..." type of bs that no one should be surprised he's pulling

    The tweet by the hirez employee is a variation of a Margaret Atwood quote, although the meaning of it is somewhat lost in the change of context. But think that helps explain why it comes across a bit hamfisted

    Really? B-word? Could he not say the word Bitch? He’s right but come on, is Bitch really a no-no-word now?

  • @MrIceCheat

    The defence of "I have years of content that show what kind of man I am" doesn't hold water at all. The people in content are personas. I've for years watched a gaming group in which one of its members was always presented as a great husband and father only to then turn out the dude groomed multiple fans, some even minors. It's very rare that a content creator shows who they really are in content.

      I’m pretty sure he was alluding to his use of the word bitch. Pretty sure saying bitch after killing someone in smite is something he sees as equal opportunity and is defending against the idea that he’s sexist for saying a word that isn’t particularly gendered anymore to most people.

    • @dmo8961
      @dmo8961 6 місяців тому

      Perhaps it's "not particularly gendered" to most men, but I would still think that most women would definitely consider it a slur when it's said to/about them by a man.

    We had a fucking dreadful pub quiz this week we got more in the 1st round than all the others combined (admittedly the first round was double points because it was celebs faces mashed together and it was which 2 celebs where mashed up point for each) but we got 1 in the final round which was also a mythology question (in greek mythology what bird represents athena?)
    Also my drama take is i think weak3n is being super Disengeniuos about the whole thing, like male suicide is a problem talk to your friends but to bring it up in response to women talking about their experiences feels like you're just trying to change the conversation. Obviously both are important but like using that as a response to the other topic feels like a deflection.

    I feel like with this issue, like most issues, people get very easily detracted by the main point in an attempt to downplay it outright. The point is Rexxi said something he shouldn't have, and instead of just saying "yeah I said this and I misspoke out of anger/behaved in a manor I was not well aware of it being offensive, I will at the very least try to do better in the future" he doubled down. What you said about Weak3n in the end is what was going through my mind with his twitter takes. He did a lot of detracting and also like you said, he has a terrible track record with how he's talked about/treated women with his platform in the past.

Rexxi was the one that brought it up on the world's stage, that's entirely on him and it's a new situation from what had already been handled. Also being good at smite and being good/knowledgeable about Duel is two very different games. And as far as i know Rexsi is a major Duel player its his main game mode. The whole “men commit suicide more often” stat is so disingenuous when talking about gamers because the reasoning is so much different. The demographic of men committing suicide is so swayed by the lives that they come back to with little to no support after experiencing war and death on a scale that is nothing but evil. If we’re going to talk about a video game community that statistic has almost no place.

    Answer: World is about 50/50 male and female. Those that game are a minor percentage of the world population. Gaming (not counting your rando time waster mobile games) attacts mostly males. Has always been that way, and always will be that way. Now we are talking about a percentage of a percentage. Next, those gamers who are attracted to competitive gaming is a percentage of a percentage of a percentage. Males tend to be more interested in competitive games. And those that have the required skills to compete in high level competitive gaming is a percentage of a percentage of a percentage of a percentage. The reason you dont see more females on stage is because their pool is tiny compared to the male pool. Factor in that this is Smite and not a giant game, their pool is almost no one.
    It isnt a cultural thing, it isnt a company thing. Its just a female thing. And thats ok. More male get into basketball too. And thats ok. It is what it is. People are different, so you arent going to get 50/50 in anything where personal choice is a factor.

Doesn’t seem too equal if that is the goal. Even though he is wrong, Rexis comms should’ve never been shared with someone else. If you listen to listen in’s, they say much worse things than that during spl games. Idk tho.

    On the specific comments mentioned "b!tch" and "put in your place" while those have been used as sexist comments, they are also pretty common gamer trash talk regardless of gender. In a vacuum those dont mean much.
    The discord conversation from this pov seems heavily against rexsi but there are 3 sides to every argument, side a side b and the truth. While im not disputing rexsi acting poorly, i do wonder about context. From what i saw on stage, tempe does not appear to be a high level player and while she may have a following ive personally always been against patches being targeted to the lower end playerbase. I don wonder if the outburst had more to do with tempe's skill vs gender as ive seen that in rexsi's streams/vods.

    I mean everyone should agree that sexism does not belong anywhere but the whole thing about women being underrepresented is silly. Many games have had female pros or even a team of female pros. They unfortunately don’t tend to be able to stack with the rest. I’m not saying it’s because they’re women but if you look into gamer demographics, the large amount of gamers are male, the proportion of gamers who play competitive style games is heavily favoured to men again, it’s simple probabilities, if you have two pools of players and one is 700% larger then you are more likely to get more outliers (top level players) in the larger group. Add onto that backed studies showing that women are less likely to pursue a career that is unstable, less likely to move for work etc you are not only looking for outliers in the player base but outliers that meet other non-regular (can’t think of the correct word) requirements.
    Will this change over time? Who knows, men and women are not the same, they have different bodies, brains, hormones which heavily impact the way we behave.
    In regards to casters that is a slightly different matter, a lot of it could be personal preference but, taking football for example, I have not listened to a female commentator/presenter that feels like they express as much passion and emotion than most males. I think many are very knowledgeable and understand the game well but either they don’t have the same levels of passion or they feel they have to be more reserved whereas a man’s commentary tends to be uninhibited and raw. Again maybe this will change over time as societal norms shift.

    I don't understand the drama man. Everyone's trying to bring up different/their own experiences, which is totally fine because NO ONE should be harassed. But can we start with apologizing to each other for the original statements? LMFAO. Tempest said her part, is trying to bring light to harassment to women, and its a real problem in many many communities, including ours. Weak3n wants to bring light to the fact that men also get harassed and it's not good for anyone, but IDK why it has to be done right that current second. Then so many comments are saying everyone is just soft... which is THE ISSUE IN THE FIRST PLACE LMFAOOOO, WE MAYBE SHOULDNT HARASS PEOPLE AND THEN TELL THEM THEYRE SOFT WHEN THEY HATE IT. Rexsi now wants to defend himself in some way from the brunt of sexism or something? Instead of just... apologizing?
    WHY, is NO ONE, apologizing? Weak3n could have apologized that they had to deal with what was said, and remind people that harassment goes both ways and to be nice to each other... didnt...
    Rexsi could have apologized for what he said being taken in a sexist way and he was just trying to shit talk in a game... but didnt...
    like wuuuuuuut is going on guys... we can apologize to each other and work together to make gaming spaces safer for all, no?

    I hope people know that these problems cannot and will not EVER be fixed. It's just not realistic. We can talk about ideals and this utopian future we wish to see, but it's just not possible. At the end of the day, it's a game. People take games seriously. They get us going. They make us say things, that, get this, we do not mean. We're just livid and need to express it. Iirc, Rexsi has been going thru some shit recently, not sure he's in the best head space to begin with. Instead of taking every single thing ever said so literally, we gotta remember, it's a fucking game. Unless you've been physically attacked, or relentlessly bullied repeatedly (idk who tf in smite actually does this), just turn the game off. Log off the socials. Holy shit ten years of this game being playable and we’re just finding out now that the player base is filled with toxic trolls? Every game I go into there’s an autolock damage dealer that does below 20k damage and shit talks the whole game. Been told to kill myself over the VGS multiple times for as little as having a bad game. I’m not saying that it’s okay to be a piece of shit, but turn off VGS chat, mute your teammates, it’s a very simple thing. Oh boy here comes the “they shouldn’t have to” comments. Which is true they shouldn’t have to but you can take yourself out of these situations. I’m not saying that being toxic is okay by any means or that we should tolerate it, but either learn to take yourself out of the situation or learn to zone it out/disregard it. Some of yall wouldn’t last in the old MW2 lobbies. I’ve seen plenty of tweets from these threads of screenshots of them being harassed but if they would have stopped communicating with the person it wouldn’t have escalated as badly as it did. Again not saying it’s okay to be a piece of shit or to not defend yourself but it’ll happen a lot less if you stop communicating. If you play smite play with friends and disregard your other teammates. It’s that simple

    Lmao lol even.
    On the real though how many women in their late teens early twenties want to grind comp smite for 12+ hours a day? On the off chance they can make a small living?
    Not many! 😂

      True, and is fine I mean who cares if women and men prefer to spend their hours on diff thing. Don't see what the whole hoopla is that more men play comp/ranked smite then women. Is like how women make up most of the psychology field, men arent complaining about representation and being the minority in the field.

    The stage comment (in a vacuum) sounds like some crap shit talk. It does have sexist tones to it, but if you drop the "b word" it is just trash talk against someone you have beef with. Does it look bad to have content creators with beef on stage for the content creator show match? Idk. I think "bitch" is probably just a remnant word that doesn't have the same intent as it conveys. Most name calling is generic filler, and doing away with "lazy" insults is probably for the better anyway
    Psychologists have done plenty of studies on women in gaming, and they catch a disproportionate amount of hate when they do well. This is likely the main reason you don't catch many women at the top of Esports. The psychology at play is more complex than I can cover here, but the comments aren't even directly sexist most of the time.

      Eh the fact that they had a prior issue in the discord chat leads me to think it wasn't just general shit talk and it was targeted. There is so much you can say to celebrate a good play. Like Hayzer said even if the words used weren't meant in a sexist way, it can still come off that way.

    This is an incredibly dismissive video. You're part of the problem. You could have used your voice to make the smite community a better place for women but instead you're perpetuating sexist behavior by labelling tempy as dramatic and by not calling out Rexsi for his sexist comments.

      To say what exactly? If you think that this issue will be fixed after Paul says stop, then you are truly lost. It should have never happened, ban him and move on. Stop looking for unnecessary attention.

    • @HayzerSmite
      @HayzerSmite  6 місяців тому +1

      I didn't intend to label Tempy as dramatic, and I feel like I was pretty clear that I think Rexsi's comments had sexist undertones and so were unacceptable, what do you think I said that I shouldn't have or what did I not say that I should have? I was also trying to respect what Tempy said in her tweet - which was that she didn't want a witch hunt or abuse hurled at Rexsi - so maybe I was too gentle in my saying if it isn't a pattern this can be the end of it, was that the problem?
      To be absolutely clear, I think there is pretty obviously a problem in the way that women get treated in gaming communities, and that we should all be making an effort to make Smite a space that is more open to all, and I like to think that I live with that intention in mind as I participate in the community day to day.

      I think just the title “stupid smite drama” does feel dismissive, just my 2 cents

    • @HayzerSmite
      @HayzerSmite  6 місяців тому

      @@CAndreaL Aye, I did consider that could be the issue, but I think from the context of the video it's clear that I don't consider the content of the drama stupid, more I find talking about it is fraught with danger and draining due to the general reaction to this kind of stuff in comments sections. I'll change it anyway, to make it clear that I do not consider the drama itself not serious.
