That's one thing I absolutely adore about this channel is that you guys don't try to hold back your emotions. Makes you more real in a sense, more human. 💜

I always felt that Peter Coyote was protecting Shane West’s character from Mandy Moore as much as he was protecting MM from SW. He knew what it felt like to be a man in love with a woman who dies too soon, and part of his reticence with the relationship was because he knew what pain SW was headed for when he did fall in love with Mandy Moore and inevitably lost her to the disease.

I didn’t say it was.
I read the book after my 7th rewatch of the movie, and the one part that really stuck out to me was the reason why it's called A Walk to Remember. In the book, by the time the wedding took place, Jamie couldn't walk anymore because of her illness, and the last time she managed to walk was down the aisle during their wedding, hence why it was a walk to remember. I didn't think I would cry because I already knew the ending, but I wept for a good solid hour.
Edit: Also, another memorable film (and now a Netflix show) is "One Day," if you're planning to do another one of these Valentine's Day-themed movies.

Switchfoot is the band that plays most of the music. It was Mandy Moore's favorite band. She wanted them in the movie. They also wrote the song she sang in the play.

The one scene when Landon goes to his Dad's house to thank him for paying for the home health care for Jamie... that moment and hug gets me every time. The room gets dusty every time that scene comes on.

I appreciate Greg’s commentary about the self-assuredness of Mandy Moore’s character that we don’t usually see with characters like that especially in high school - never thought about that.
It took me soooo much effort to not scream every time you guessed what was gonna happen, from the punch to the specificity of leukemia. And, as always, your insights are impeccable.
The fact that Greg picked it up about her dying during the conversation with Jamie and her dad was very impressive

Yes, that scene when the phone rings in the middle of the night, and Laura Dern (as the mom) doesn’t even have to say a word to Shailene Woodley’s character when she opens the door to her room … that absolutely gut wrenching sobbing that bursts out of Shailene into that silence and makes her whole body convulse… now that was some of the greatest, most realistic acting of a heart getting ripped apart that I have ever seen.
The soundtracks of this movie is so under rated. Mostly from switchfoot. One of my faves. The reason why found my fave scripture

So, I was in high school when this came out and hadn’t seen it until it was released for rental. I was at a sleepover and was the only one left awake (the others had all seen it). Like a fool in denial, I didn’t want to believe she was dying until she said so. I literally woke everyone up when I started bawling at the end, lol. 😭😭😭 I still cry every time I watch it.

Fun fact: Shane West and Mandy Moore both had a crush on each other during the filming of the movie and to this day are really good friends. Too bad they never became a couple bc I can see them being great together.

Its devastating lol if I remember right in the book hes an old man reminiscing on Jamie and he never married again or took his wedding ring off which just kills me every time. My dad had this movie on an external hard drive and when I was playing with it and exploring it, I found this movie and immediatly fell in love with. If I remember well, at that time, he was bedridden, extremely exhausted and even mentally he wasn't all there. Now, It's been more than a decade, and papa passed after a long and painful battle with illness. I miss him dearly.
He loved movies and I love them too, but he died so soon that we never got to the stage where you become friends with your parent, and we never got to be movie buds which I'm sure we would have been. Yet, without even knowing it, he somehow could reach through all the obstacles and recommend me a few movies that have a special place in my heart to this day, the dearest being this one.
Miss you, papa. Love you forever.
I love this movie, makes me cry every time I watch it. I actually saw that story that Greg was talking about with the man who married his wife hours before she died. It touched my heart and proves that A Walk to Remember can happen in real life. Tragic but has a love story.
In the book, Jamie was so weak, she was using a wheelchair. The “walk to remember” was her walking down the aisle for her wedding to Landon.
If you need a romcom suggestion, my absolute favorite of all time is “You’ve Got Mail” with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.
My personal favorite is Definitely Maybe.

Greg, as a fellow Filipino you may find it interesting to know this film was in theaters for MONTHS in Manila due to its popularity. Mandy Moore visited and had concerts and fan events. The film's wholesomeness + Christian themes + music was a huge selling point there.

This movie. I’ve watched it twice. Once when I was in my twenties and I cried and it stuck with me for days after and recently in my forties with my teen daughter and we both cried and we both said the same thing, that it stuck with us for days after. There’s just something about this movie that sets it apart from other “teen” movies. Mandy Moore most definitely for a start but I can’t explain it. One of my most favorite love story movies. 2. A Walk to Remember and the Wish. The Wish became my favourite book the moment that I finished it.
Best of Me, Dear John, Safe Havens(movie as well) and The longest ride..... all are my favs cz of the twists 😢😢 Makes your heart shred into pieces when you are reading it.
I’ve read em all. The Choice and Safe Haven are my top faves! The Lucky One, The Last Song, The Notebook, The Longest Ride and Dear John are amazing as well. If I’m being honest, I don’t think I’ve had a Nicholas Sparks story I have NOT loved.

One of my elder brothers watched this movie when he was in High School. Ironically, he dated a pastor's daughter who was a lot like Mandy Moore's character, after he watched the movie. They eventually did not work out but it was an experience our family remembers.
