To get a little more context with this solo, you GOTTA watch his full drumeo lesson: ua-cam.com/video/pfytko0fPQo/v-deo.html
I was lucky enough to study with Dave at Berklee back in '99. Fantastic teacher and one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.
This is certainly up there with some of the BEST DRUM SOLO'S I have ever heard. The Drum sound is pure and the recording is 1st class. Thank you Dave DiCenso and Drumeo.
I grew up Boston, my father was rated as one of Bostons top studio and live drummers from 1988 - 1996, i met tons of amazing musicians including Dave D I knew his father and went to their drum store for gear tons of times. He and I jammed dozens of times and my dad actually showed Dave techniques. I'm glad to see after all these years he is still being talked about. The dude was always sick and when he was at Berklee I was so happy to play with him and teach each other. I am always impressed at his skill both technical and physical. The dudes right foot is a fucking machine.
First I heard about this guy’s playing was from Petrucci’s solo album. And I was totally blown away by his solo at the end of Damage Control. This guy comes from another planet.
Bener bro
The drumming on that album certainly is from another planet
Incredibly creative..!! Coming from a different place… loved every second of his drum piece..
And a touch.. extremely powerful yet a sense of air in his playing…
Very new… and refreshing..!!
Thanks.!!
This guy is amazing. I really really really dig his playing and enjoy watching him much more than the vast majority of top drummers. To me he is among the best with no doubt.
met dave when he was 15 and I went to work for his dad..........his playing has always blown me away.......rock on my friend
I remember hearing Dave years ago at Daddys Junkie clinic I think and one guy said "You Suck!" before he started, his response was "How do you know?" and then proceeded to blow our minds! This solo is similar to that one years ago at certain points too!
Dave locks himself into a groove chamber and then bounces himself all over the walls.
Very accurate description.
one of my personal favorites. thanks for sharing this with us. such musicality, its mind blowing.
It's just absolutely amazing drum technique. His hands and feet are as good as could get! And then add the ideas. Wow... scary
Dave is just SICK!!!!!!!!!!
oh ya ..right up there with some of the greatest drum compositions I have ever heard ..so musical..I love solos that actually talk to you and keep drawing you in ..Simon Phillips will do that to..beautiful
Dave came to my town in Indiana some years ago and put on a literal and figurative clinic at a club I was involved in. His brother, John, is also a very accomplished drummer and moved to my area for work and was, to our great fortune, in my local band for a while, which was our connection. Dave is in a different hemisphere. Incredibly gifted and obviously incredibly dedicated. And as some have said below, he is a very humble and nice guy. It runs in the family. Dave if you read this, hello from the Hoosier state. I hope you and yours are well.
Incredible solo. Nothing is cliche or tired.
Dave's lesson was really great. I found the part regarding counting swing or shuffle time incredibly insightful. It totally changed my approach to swing. Really worth watching. This guy is a great teacher.
Great player that deserves more exposure. Was Dave in the ("legendary') Cro-Mags, back in the days? He evolved into a versatile drummer with some likes of Virgil Donati. Flow and dynamics! I like it
This guy is the real deal, watched this a year ago and on my 5th watch today, makes me want to pick up the sticks. If you can do that then your life has been worth it, Thanks Dave &
Drumeo
Big love from Boston
What an unreal solo.
God. I just loved how it grooved. Dave has a great inventory to use. Thanks Drumeo.
Nasty-ass drumming!! World-class! Just wonderful to hear and watch!
Always fun to watch Dave. We have seen all the chops, all the technique but as I've said beforeDave has such a beautiful way of incorporating them all with such great feel. because without that it ain't happening.....GREAT JOB !!
Great drummer! Awesome feel!
absolutely killer!! loved the whole thing
Outstanding. Bravo!
I didn't knew Dave before, and he's absolutely awesome!
Just phenomenal. 🥁 🥊
wow! super drum solo dude!
Dude, that had the funk! Loved it. When you started counting at the opening I thought, "Cool, a white Bernard Purdie." It just went up from there.
F'n Dave Discenso... Always be one of my favs hands down. It's like Medicine.
Beautiful sound
Dave is one of the greatests
Man this is awesome !
This is the best one yet ...
Que fluidez, maestro!! 🤘
wow simply amazing. ....
I study with Dave. He’s the best. His book “Rhythm and Drumming Demystified” is something every drummer can benefit from owning.
this is amazing !
Hallo from Turkey, you inspire... Thank you ❤🙏🏻
Yeah seriously, 740 Likes is way way too low...
A subscription to Drumeo for this single lesson (let alone the few hundred they already have) is more than worth the price!
Come on people! How could you give him a thumbs down? Incredible!
TASTEFUL solo! Unheard of! Very nice :)
He flows !!! His the best!!!
Epic solo! Damn.
I first saw Dave from the modern drummer fest DVDs from 08 i believe, great drummer and love his style
Awesome!!
Beautiful
great sounding kit!!!
its not a kit, its the drummer!
Loving it :D
Thats some serious Flow Bro!
Amazing
love this guy! so under appreciated like Lang, Charlie Z, Zonder, Agren, Jarzombek, Bosio :(
Dave DiCenso is a beast!!!
what the fuck that was beyond comprehension and beyond words to describe how awesome it was.
De los mejores bateros que he visto
When is Dave coming back to Drumeo? He should do a lesson on how he phrases and moves around the kit. So fluid.
Thanks a lot !!!
ahhh refreshing!
What a drummer!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
nice dude!
Nice!
this video is so underrated, please note that he prolly can play what your fav drummer does, watch his other videos
I am also a drummer but after watching Dave Dicenso's playing i see dreams where i play triangle.. He's that good. :)
the living proof that counting matters ;)
Tony Royster Jr: the living proof that "feeling" matters '^-^'
@WitlessX, it had thematic purpose.
I'm pretty sure DiCenso could have played without it, but he felt for a while (rightly) that it helped anchor the listener to a tension between the metric modulation and what he was playing. It really was what he wanted to play, and in my mind, unbelievably talented musicians such as Dave here get us nerds lost in analysis.
I think he was just being playful ;)
My point being: you have to be able to count wathever you play. Not that you need to count!
My comment is more important than Dave's performance. I am here to correct you, outthink you, outimagine you, outquote you, outyou you.
Bow before my greatness.... oh yeah, and enjoy Dave. Or I'll call him up and have him come over and kick your ass, in odd time.
Proof you don't need a huge kit to make great music.
This guy come from one other planet , his incridible.
Right on.
This is of course amazing. If you really want your mind blown look up two ton show w/ Dave dicenso. Keep a spare pair of drawers handy....
YES! That video is how I found out about him!
I found out about him in the Jon Finn Group around '92 I think. They used to play out a lot back in the 90's/00's. Johnny D's in Davis Square was a great spot to see him sweat his ass off. Shame that place closed down like 5 years ago or so. Saw so many good musicians there. Then there was Ryle's in Inman Square that closed down a couple years back also. This was all before COVID that there places were shutting down.
Dave left the JFG a bunch of years ago, and Larry Finn (no relation to Jon) has been the drummer since. He's awesome too! Dave went on to Two Ton Shoe and toured with Josh Groban. He was also with Duran Duran. And he did some drumming on one of John Petrucci's solo side projects.
Dave's the real deal! So was his father, Dick, who passed away 5 years ago. Had his own drum shop on the South Shore for years that was well known and well regarded.
Time flies so fast. Get out and see some live shows if you can, folks!
Классный дядька 👍👍
Душевненько))
Saw a comment on FB tonight dissing Peart and the John Bonham was better , which led me to look up Dave again, so glad I got to study with him!
yesss!!!
true physical representation of Pocket. Master at his work
2:15 -2:20 ...
Wtf?! Unbelievable. Why have I never heard of this guy?
Dave Dicenso is the best drummer in the world.

I dunno if anyone has seen videos of this guy in the 90's when he sported long hair. Fucking insane playing.
Wow.

2:17 is sick
Grate job . I think I can play this , but I'm worried about the looking so cool as I'm playing part lol . Thanks
