This is THE BEST old age makeup tutorial. It looks so natural without having to invest in latex or anything fancy. Absolutely love it. Thank you so much for doing this!

This was great!! It's hard to find middle age make-up tutorials rather than full on old age, so this was really helpful! Gave me some great tips/ideas for my cosplay :) Thanks!

It may seem counter intuitive, but the highlight goes UNDER the dark lines. then brush up the dark line, leaving a crease line, and brush down the highlight. Looks much more realistic and it is how Ben Nye and Mehron instruct how to do it.

You have it backwards, the white line goes BELOW the dark line not on top. The top of a wrinkle caves in to the crease causing a shadow, and light hits where the skin curves back up below the wrinkle line.

Great tutorial Zenna, but I have a quick question. I'm planning on aging up 20 years to mid 40's for a film project I'm working on, would this tutorial work well for filming as well as it works for theater/stage work? And would it also be able to be combined with a post apocalyptic survivor make up (liquid latex scars, and unclean look)? If you could help me out with my queries it would be much appreciated, thanks!

This is definitely more applicable for stage! But you could minimize this and add a little liquid latex (sparingly) for film, especially around the crows feet! The heavier contour lines would be rather apparent on camera, however. But you could definitely do this successfully for camera on a smaller scale. I hope this helps. There is so much more that I would want to say but it's difficult to explain in writing.

Zenna Hodge Thanks for the response, and I was thinking about liquid latex, but would have to take care to use very sparingly like you said. I guess its just a case of doing makeup tests and such until I'm happy with the look and how it looks on camera, thanks again for the help!

Definitely do a makeup test! There are also a lot of old age makeup tutorials online that might be able to help you further. Depending on where you live, there are ALSO so makeup schools that allow you to drop in on weekends for free master classes where they sometimes go over things like old age makeup.

Zenna Hodge Unfortunately there are no makeup classes near me, I've looked. But no worries, I'll just play around with it until I'm happy with the results. Thanks again for all the help!

Don’t forget to age the neck area. Very important for it to be realistic.
