He was hands down an outstanding teacher. His wording was well chosen and eloquent. No gimmicks, no arrogance. Just pure subject matter expertise coupled with calm and steady presentation skills. He set the standards…
Hearing Jeff Cooper and then comparing it to how many contemporary firearm instructors express themselves you would be excused if you thought we were living the plot of Idiocracy.
Thanks for the video sir. In the recent past I googled Mr. Cooper's videos on YT and could not get any of them. This guy had some really good articles written.
His use of language and articulation are as precise as his gun-handling. Yet despite his very military bearing, with every word he is placing full responsibility on the shoulders of his listeners-a vital necessity when the subject is firearms. All in all, a command performance!
When I went to his class I remember how easy he worked on his 1911 slide, when I went there were 25 people I was the youngest, they were 3 doctors and believe it or not 5 lawyers they wanted to learn to handle a gun I remember they were the only ones taking notes and one of them had a voice recorder, the things I did learned I never forgot - a gun is always loaded 100% of the time period, you never point at something you don't want to destroy, when you shoot you only look at the front sight and pull the trigger -on on the 3rd one when you're pulling the trigger you don't think of anything else nothing just look at the front sights and pull, I remember Jeff kept telling us those 3 things every time we went back to the classroom after shooting or breaks
0:46 "I assume that you have purchased this film in order to learn how to use a weapon which you now own." Nah, I didn't purchase this film. I'm Canadian, and we don't usually have handguns. I'm here to improve my l33t airsoft milsim skills, consider how to be a better teacher, learn about the history of the right wing in America, and think about what life in the Marine Corps does to a person. 5:01 "We feel that you are not irresponsible or you would not be viewing this film." I got news for you about UA-cam, buddy. Seriously, though, this a beauty. Thanks to the uploader.
UA-cam still quite a few years away when this was shot...would have been viewed primarily by people with specific interest. But I take the point for nowadays.
@46:10 "for women"... 44 magnum full house loads. This is a nice refreshing break from "gun shop fudds" of that era (and now) who want to hand women a pea shooter.
Both work. I'm a younger guy who prefers it over isosceles, it's simply my body's natural preference. I think lots of the blowback is people simply labeling anything even remotely 'metal and wood' as fuddlore.
I noticed that to right off that bat, poor guys, there using a stance that was designed by a man who was shot and cradled the gun in his strong hand. Isosceles stance is the best.
Revolvers are pistols. Of course the good Colonel had the sense to know this. Now for the tactical Timmies to come along mouth frothing rambling about how their favorite youtuber says that's wrong.
Did Jeff Cooper have a "lazy eye"? This video's quality makes it difficult to tell for sure but it looks to me like his right eye drifts away from the camera while his left eye remains on the camera.
It's a fairly common medical condition. Younger pictures of him reflect the same malady. I'm currently binge-watching The Americans and actress Keri Russell has the same condition, which kinda drives me nuts.
Unlike today’s firearms UA-camrs Jeff Cooper delivers an eloquent, point-for-point monolog in one single cut.
That he did sir. He also knew what the heck he was talking about. Unlike some people now-a-daze!

The commmand of the language has denigrated
You both sound like Colonel Jeff Cooper. I used to also like his other sayings.
This guy was something else entirely.
I was 21 when I went to Arizona to take 2:50 his class , Jeff Cooper was a man's Man 100% common sense

Thanks for uploading a timeless classic.
28:43 -- "I'll show you the picture of the champion of the world."
A picture of Magnum PI appears...
🤣
Excellent image quality. I would pay my money to see this video presentation in a theater.
My buddy from Lincoln Massachusetts told me about Jeff Cooper, now I'm watching all his vids, thank you.
They talk about him in Massachusetts? 🤣 He's quite a character.
Thank you for the upload! I attended Gunsite in the summer of 2021 for the pistol 250. Plan on going again for the 350 this year.
Its amazing how much techniques have changed since then
A true professional. I prefer the Isosceles Stance over the Weaver or Modified Weaver Stance. A truly enjoyable video, thank you!!!
Thanks for making this available!
The legend master instructor of handgun training ever, RIP Jeff.
I'm adding this to the "must watch" list for beginner shooters. (adding only eyes and ears)
That's how I learned!
Every journalist, from collegiate on up, should be made to watch this video before reporting or commenting upon firearms or crime!

🙂That music to introduce segments brings back memories. The good ole days.🥲

I suspect he's not wearing earpro. Different times man.
This is great.
Clint Smith assisting with demo and was that also Ken Hackethorn assisting with the demo.
I thought that could have been him. ⚡ ~=~
Also see a blip with Mossad
Who would have ever thought Clint Smith was young, once? I know I was surprised.
@@latigomorganHackathorn on the other hand was always old.
wow clint when he was a child lol
Mr Cooper 👍
I still press check that way
Does Col Cooper advocate a single, continuous pull of the trigger or does he take out the slack first, then start the remainder of the pull?
In other videos he does promote slack taken off while the firearm is brought up and sights are acquired.

TLDR: 1) buy a handgun 2) load a handgun 3) git gud
Everytime he picks up a gun he puts his finger on the trigger, breaching one of the most important rules of firearms safety.
Say what you want, he passed his hand in front of a loaded 45 barrel!
Jeff cooper is a legend.
His press check is dangerous!
yeah. holy shit
That’s the old school pinch check.
Not nearly as well spoken as Ayoob
