Original doors definitely add character to these boats but they have so many joints and seams that it's tough to keep them water tight. Your single door will definitely make a bunch of potential leaks go away. The lid should be a great solution and looks like you could crack it up an inch or two in light rain for ventilation.

This is amazing, can't wait to see it when it's done!

Great idea, looks like it’s gonna work just fine, nice work! I’ve built 2 big storage boxes for out boat, 8x3 feet, lids are hard, especially if they live outside. I had to replace the old ones that finally rotted around the hinges, it was a first for me and they’re doing well so far.

Thanks. We’ve just got to figure out what to use for the door and hatch seal. Thinking EPDM or Neoprene maybe, ideally something we can use fasteners to attach to the frame. What did you use for your storage boxes?

Excellent design, have you considered putting a curved resin bead across the forward part of the hatch opening so there's no pooling?

Yep! That’s what it has now. Still waiting for weather so we can start the exterior paint though.

Great idea but not sure if it's going to be very practical, how are you going to secure the lid in the open position

We have a telescoping rod stay that should be useful for holding it fully open and cracking it open for some ventilation in the evenings.

You're going to put hinges on the outside of the door with removable pins?? That doesn't seem practical in my book

Totally on the fence with the removable pins plan at this point. We have a set of hinges as a backup.

@@aboardladyhawk If an intruder doesnt pop the pins they will undo the screws and there goes your gear. I think a more secure solution is needed.
