- Another week in lockdown here in the UK and another week of video. This week I tackle the handbrake cables which are very stretched and while they just about held the car they definitely needed replacing.

Great guide, thanks - it helped me to replace my Abarth Grande Punto's offside cable, after it partially failed shuffling down a hill in traffic yesterday. I recommend using a hot air gun/hairdryer to warm the plastic clip where it goes into the body before fitting, as it's a PITA to get it to go in otherwise!
That’s a damn good suggestion (why didn’t I think of that, probably because I was tired and fed up by that point) but thanks 🙏 glad you found the video helpful, obviously the abarth is pretty special and I think could be the next uno turbo/punto GT so look after it, might be worth a lot in the years to come
@@PuntoHowto Thanks, yes, I am trying to preserve/maintain it as best I can: so far, changed the cambelt, water pump, handbrake cable. Now coming up for 115,000 miles, and running sweetly.
I'd love to see something about changing front and rear dampers and springs and top mount bearing. Apparently it's common for the springs to break on our puntos.

It’s something I could try and look at, if I get the chance, I’m not going to change bits that don’t need changing, maybe I need to go over some speed bumps quickly

Firstly I’m taking that as a compliment, I’d not say I was particularly well dressed, that being said I did destroy my Barbour jacket crawling around under cars, as for dinner at the hare and hound, count me in.

My handbreak is broken. When I pull it up it so weak and shaky, could it be needing new wires like in the your video or just tightening? Great vid helped me a lot 😀
Yep may just need new cables you’ll need to investigate.

Not something I can really offer advice on without knowing what's actually wrong. Check the fuses, check there is power at the button, check the motor works and try and work out what's wrong and what's not working
Hi love your videos I have a 2007 grande punto 4 door the hand brake is not holding at all the handbrake dose not travel up high at all it's tight its had new shoes on but still nothing u can literally push the car with one finger was wondering if u had any ideas many thanks
There are several things you can look at. The self adjusters in between the shoes, the drum might need replacing if it’s out of spec or glazed cables can snag inside their sleeve and therefore not be pulling on the brakes properly. Several things you could check out

Because there is a lever between the two cables on the back of the hand brake, if one cable brakes the lever has nothing on the other end to pull against and so both brakes stop working both cables need to be connected to each end of that lever for the hand brake to work

Actually looking In to this, I have a whole video filmed on changing the rear brakes I never posted either...... seems I have plenty to keep me busy

I would love to.... sadly all my cars are diesel so no spark plugs, maybe I could find someone with a car to borrow ?
With a diesel you should do something about EGR and MAP sensor cleaning. Or adding an electric Defa parking heater
Handbrake light is on whilst im driving. Checked for brake fluid seems to be fine what could be the reason . Kindly assist. 🙏

By the way, how do you set up your camera?
This video was filmed back in November/December, it’s just now I had time to edit it. I have several cameras and depending on what I use depends on how it’s set up. Recently I’ve been using my phone on a gimbal for some shots but usually it’s a SLR type camera on a tripod.
