Seventeen years after the Pontchartrain Beach amusement park closed, a new amusement park in the city of New Orleans opened in 2000 under the name of Jazzland. However, it was not very lucrative at first. Palance Entertainment put the park up for sale in 2002 and Six Flags assumed control of the park. Six Flags operated the park under the Jazzland name for the 2002 season. In 2003, Six Flags added new areas and attractions to the park, and rechristened it to Six Flags New Orleans. The park operated until late August 2005 in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Katrina's storm surges inundated New Orleans and Six Flags New Orleans sustained severe unrecoverable damage. The park's drainage system was overwhelmed by brackish floodwaters and the water flowed around the park for more than a month. The floodwaters eventually receded, leaving damage of the rides and buildings in their wake. Inspectors from Six Flags concluded that the rides and buildings were damaged 80% and billions of dollars would be needed to revitalize the park. In 2006, the park was deemed a total loss by Six Flags. Insurers poured in $11.5 billion, $175 billion short of the $32.5 billion requirement. Six Flags made a gulping decision to relinquish the park's lease but then-New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin blocked the former's move, forcing the company to rebuild. In December 2006, the Batman roller coaster was dismantled and shipped to Six Flags Fiesta Texas under the new name Goliath. The ride was somehow immune from the elements of Katrina's storm surge due to it being elevated and corrosion-resistant.
Numerous entertainment companies eyed the park for revitalization, but none of these plans were achieved.
In June 2009, Six Flags filed for bankruptcy protection. Fined $3 million by the city of New Orleans, the company was coerced to relinquish its lease with the park in September 2009. The park fell under the ownership of the city of New Orleans that month. References to the New Orleans theme park were stripped from the company's website.

When exploring places like this you should always bring a friend with you for safety reasons. Thanks for sharing.
Especially this park. It's infested with gators and water moccasins not to mention the occasional drunk or horny drug addiction.

I wonder how many burned vehicles she passed on this very deserted stretch of I-10 where the park is located? This highway is where the stolen vehicles are stripped and burned. Either there or at the end of the Exit ramps that lead to nowhere, where all manner of things are dumped, including bodies.. I drove this stretch of highway for about a year and dreaded having my vehicle malfunction in this area. Nothing for miles, but high speed traffic. My best advice is to stay away.
You shouldn’t be exploring places like this anyway it’s a health and safety hazard this place now and I’m really surprised it’s still standing the way it is for so long. Leave it to the professionals
@@copyer9088 are you really surprised it's still standing? This reminds me of the Dixie Square Mall in Illinois, the thing stood abandoned and derelict from 1978 to 2011. There were so any proposals to redevelop that area. it's finally demolished now but the land is still empty. This is going on 18 years now, I wonder if it will 'break' that record.
This is literally making me cry.. I went there in 2003. So so so sad.. best amusement park I’ve been to. So many good memories
I do lots of exploring in the midwest and I've been watching coverage on this park since it closed. I'd love to visit and could care less about the security, however, I hear with water sitting for so long it has attracted the gators and exploring by yourself is a big risk. Thanks for the footage!
I just went last week on Easter Sunday and made a video. I didnt see a single gator lol.

Awesome exploration video, i want to check out this abandoned six flags one of these days before it decays completely to the ground, it has quite some interesting history behind this amusement park. Keep it up and stay safe! 👍

Awesome video and I can't believe you went on your own to 6FNO. Isn't the Joker Jukebox right next to the three column Gotham City "building"? You scan over from one to the other, so why do you say the ride is next to the Lex Luthor ride? Enjoyed your other SA videos!
the placement of quite a few of the rides in the superhero section were a little bit off compared to where they were on the map actually! this was the only map i could find online, and the rest of the park was pretty spot on, but it shows the joker jukebox in the bottom left corner of the map where it’s more accurately in the top left (above the gotham city building, not below it; if it were where it showed on the map, it would be right on that corner past the justice league building, probably past the captain america shield on the ground), the lex luthor ride is also more accurately a bit further to the right, much more directly across from the catwoman’s whip (which is also a little bit off; it shows it on the straightaway directly across from the gotham city building, but it’s really more around the corner); i was just showing which rides were which and that was the only big discrepancy, and it is kind of hard to tell in the video when you haven’t been there irl lol

Urban exploring, while cool, shouldnt be done on places like this. I've explored plenty of locations, but this one is extremely dangerous and well monitored. I don't reccomend it. Here are some of the big things about this park:
-Pretty much anywhere near jester is a no-go because it's gator INFESTED. The gators are aggro and will attack if they see you. It's also regularly marshy/underwater even still.
-There are several collapsing rooves and floors in and around the structures
-There is very high security prescence and cameras near every major attraction and building.
-There are car theives and criminals looking to prey on people and their cars while they enter the area.
-Lots of these rides are dangerous and especially the flatrides can swing and hit you if you mess around with them
-There are lots of weird algae and mold bits growing everywhere which can't be good for your breathing
there are like hundreds of specific issues with certain areas at this park but I advise people to stick to watching the videos. I had a friend talk with security and they estimate they catch 85-95% of tresspassers on a day to day basis. They also told me this place is already well documented so its not even really worth it.
TLDR: its too much of a headache to try and get in, so don't.
How did you enter the park? Was it from the entrance or from the side?
i parked my car by the fence on the road the arrow is pointed to at 2:25 - at 3:29, i’m actually on the road - i think it’s about a mile down that service road (15ish min walk) until you come to the warehouses at 4:59, which will put you near both the Jester and the Mega Zeph!

Imagine being 4 years old in 2005 and everyday from that point forward you drive past here on the way to school or whatever, your entire god damn life you are teased, taunted even, by this amazing park that you can never visit !?

Hurricane Katrina. It was under water for quite a while.
Due to the hurricane flooding the park. After it cleared it was too costly to repair.

hurricane katrina. she made new orleans her bitch along with six flags new orleans. 6 flags had a 75 year lease with the city of new orleans they signed it when they bought jazzland originally from the first owners. the park was deemed an 80% loss which means it was basically totaled. six flags sued their insurance company but never recouped enough to rebuild or even come close. it appears in percy jackson the megazeph could still operate, however the whole ride would have to be rebuilt down to every screw, nut and washer to be considered safe for public use. thats why six flags abandoned it. the city still owns it. obviously the security is armed though they dont have the power to arrest you they can hold you at gun point for trespassing and call the city cops then the city cops can and likely will arrest you and throw you in jail. plus there are live alligators living in the ponds on the property. your essentially taking your life in your own hands going in. the city of new orleans definitely doesnt want to pay for your medical bills if you get bitten by a gator and live to the tell the tale.

i was worried about that too ngl - i saw the security car drive around a couple times when i first got in and once when i was on main street thru the gates, but other than that no i didn’t!
