- Uzair Younus is a visiting fellow at the United States Institute of Peace looking at the region of South Asia.
Uzair Younus comes back on the podcast to discuss why Bangladesh is surging ahead of Pakistan, the geoeconomics of South Asia, what impact Biden's presidency may have on Indo-Pak relations and if the recent comments by Pakistan suggest a strategic policy shift.
We also discuss the new State Bank provisions, whether Pakistan should have gone to the IMF, food inflation, the eroding purchasing power, the petroleum crisis and rising extremism.
We get into a deep dive discussion about the sociopolitics and the economy of Pakistan - is there reason to be hopeful or are we headed for an economic disaster? What are the biggest economic challenges facing PTI right now? What are the potential solutions?

At 16:00 he says Maharashtra se log ja rahe hai sehro ki Taraf ya north ki tarha ? Boy does he really knows India ? That migration took place when people left Maharashtra after lockdown to go at there native places. And it was chaotic because of sudden lockdown, Maharashtra is most industrialized state in India and people migrate to Maharashtra for work. The migration was one time migration and majority of those people are back in Maharashtra for work and livelihood.
I think he was right. The least common denominator for migration is climate change again.
@@shanecallum5990 But with Climate Change people from internal MH would go to Mumbai and Pune not to the North.
But CM Uddhav Thackeray appealed migrants to not leave Maharashtra at that time.
He may be referring to some other migration. Not the covid migration..
I did a basic Google search and he is right, there is migration happening in india because of climate change, from agricultural areas to cities..
@@mrgyani That migration has been happening for a 100 years. Go to cities in UP and everyone knows someone in their family who still farms. Most people realised that Farming cannot sustain families anymore in India.

Muzamil Hasan's Thoughts behind things is great too
@@xyz-fq5nm too centrist, that podcast is ok as long as it doesn't touch politics. You can see clearly when Ali Hameed tries to talk about the establishment and Manzoor, he clearly avoids further discussion. TPE is only one which i have found to have the guts to at least talk about all issues.
@@umayr2935 agreed. These podcasts can be good but I feel sometimes TPE tends to be very subjective. Like just to prove the point that Pakistan's economic growth is too slow they showed that India's gdp contracted - 8% while contraction was actually around - 23%. And Bangladesh is practically under one party rule right now 🤷♀️
Like at least they should TRY to give an objective perspective
@@xyz-fq5nm nobody has to prove Pakistan's economic growth to be slow, its very obvious when the government celebrates remittances, which actually proves that more people dont want to work here.
The stats you mentioned might be correct but i dont think that one would rely only on these to prove a point so obvious, however that level of neutrality might be present in any podcast
It is not farmer protest in India but it is middle man protest.
Golwalkar is fascist for wanting a Hindu Rashtra while Jinnah is Liberal for wanting a Muslim Country. And what about hounding of Modi by congress?
lol 🤣 pakistan whole existence is in question by this
Come on. Modi was genuinely interested in connecting with Mian Nawaz because he was interested in economics. Pakistan gave them an excuse because the Pak army wanted to get rid of Mian Saab. And wanted to get Khan Saab instead. The visit gave them excuse and the subsequent attacks gave the hindutva elements their excuse. Internal politics kills it all!!

I savoured this conversation for 3/4 days...a little each day like a dessert. The conversation touched many aspects of not only subcontinent but developed world as well. The podcast was honest and I am mighty impressed with Uzairs knowledge of domestic India. His point of views are realistic and give a very fair perspective. I will look forward to him being a guest in future as well.
Uzair's knowledge of domestic India can be described as subpar at best. Either that or he deliberately leaves out information that would provide a different context than what he is doing.
Three hours honestly flew by😂 Uzair is a brilliant conversationalist, and i honestly learn so much from his talks. Its also rare that a host is so well informed and forms such nuanced arguments about complex issues on a wide range of topics. Ps. Zarar khurho ko bhi wapis lao, bara time hogaya hai😂

This was good! Always nice to listen to you both. Please know that not all Indians are as sensitive as you might find in these comments. We may disagree but we also understand the reasons for your opinions. We all want to improve the life standards of people of subcontinent. A shared history of colonial era can take lot of the blame. IMF debt taken by the government of India was essentially a "project debt" taken by various public sector enterprises to develop the infrastructure industry in India that produced a good infrastructure in the country. This development was on a business basis working on a low margin.
For example, in 1975 India commenced improvement in power generation with an IMF ( and WB) debt of about 200 Crores ( 25 million) today NTPC is one of the largest and most efficient corporation in the world in the power sector.

Aryabhatta, the famous Indian mathematician discovered 'zero'.
The first modern equivalent of the numeral zero comes from a Hindu astronomer and mathematician Brahmagupta in 628.
It was al-Khowarizmi who first synthesized Indian arithmetic and showed how the zero could function in algebraic equations, and by the ninth century the zero had entered the Arabic numeral system
When Aryabhat was making significant contributions to mathematics which were later propagated by Arab scholars, both the panel members' ancestors were Hindus. To be fair to the Arab scholars, they acknowledged the fact that these concepts came from India.

Good podcast but his perspective on India felt like a third rate interpretation of already third rate interpretation of India by the Western press. Implying that India somehow is the aggressor or this is what sells in Indian politics can't be farther from the truth. If general Pakistani population is that peace loving then what is the whole hind banega Pakistan thing on the TV?
TBH peace between India and PK is never possible as long as Pakistani army runs the show because peace with India will render its existence useless.
@@ThePakistanExperience Bro " "hind banayega Pakistan" is not just not mainstream, it is the fringest of the fringe." -
It would not be socially acceptable to run that ad on Indian TV even now, with all the so called Hindutva fascism etc on in full steam. India will be supplying 45 million vaccine doses to Pakistan this year - the extent to which your media is suppressing this news has been staggering.
@@AKumar-co7oe the vaccines are not free, it has been fact-checked by your alt news as false. But also remember that about 80% of India’s medical surgical equipment supply is from Sialkot Pakistan since it’s cheaper. Short term or long term, there are no free lunches. So don’t drop the mic yet.
@@usamamian309 "the vaccines are not free, it has been fact-checked by your alt news as false." - yeah they are free, COVAX is paying, of which India is a minor donor - and Pakistan isn't.
Keep doing your narrative wars, I'm sick and tired of it. Your country's internal narrative is mentally sick - that's the main problem with it.
@@ThePakistanExperience Well, that's just what world gets to see. It ain't the averages that defines what perception people will have of you rather it's the extremes on the fringes. The fact that something like that could fly on the national TV and got through the censorship makes a point. I'm not implying that India doesn't have these retards but those campaigns would NEVER go live on TV or mainstream media, ever. A society tolerates what it considers normal.
Anyway kudos to you for keeping it raw. And the impressions you do of people had me cracking. Definitely see this channel going big. 👍
@@AKumar-co7oe You already downgraded from your original ‘narrative’ after I gave a quick fact check. I’ll leave it there. As I mentioned before, there are no free lunches. That’s the narrative.

Abey entire indian kashmir mai 4g internet hai at present
Great conversation guys. The ending was pretty serious, please take care.
Lol having listened to so many podcasts and interviews across YT, one thing I've noticed is whenever Pakistanis talk about India, they mostly talk about the wrong things out here and are under the impression that America and Europe are the perfect regimes in all sorts. Guys you can also learn from the positive aspects of a country to grow yourselves but it's pretty rare to see someone talking about something like this. Anyway, this was quite interesting to hear someone's perspective about India who are like 10000 miles away from India.
The game is “narrative narrative”
Well I don't think that's has always been the case. It is more prevalent now for obvious. But I have heard plenty of democracy loving Pakistanis cite india as a model to follow despite many of it's failures. Especially in the first decade of this century.
@@TheLawOfficesofHamzaSalahuddin Haha agreed 100%
@@71espn Not sure though. It might have been prevalent earlier also but back then since there was no social media, we couldn't be more aware through the traditional media. And yeah people from Pakistan who cite the Indian democracy are not getting popular though is what I feel. I really applaud people like Hasan Nissar and Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed for raising their voices.
@@tish20 Couple of points - (1) To be honest Indian democracy is not exactly considered a model by most of the world. Pakistanis are taught to believe that India is poorer, more violent and generally worse off than them - when Dawn publishes an article on Gurgaon this is the representative picture they use -www.dawn.com/news/1251891/ - they don't show the skyscrapers and metro trains. However, despite the myriad issues with Indian democracy - I suspect Pakistan will need to go through a phase similar to what India is right now before becoming like Korea or Taiwan or Japan.
(2) I think this narrative game was always going on - but we were only fed one story and took that to be the truth. Now that we are online we can easily see how disgustingly people spin self serving narratives without considering fact or morality. After experiencing the Indian left narrative, the Indian right narrative, the Pakistani narrative, the Al Jazeera narrative and the American left narrative - I am becoming deeply suspicious of any kind of reporting on my country.

just finished the podcast... wow really fun 3 hour. couldn't agree with Uzair more. like uzair said, look at vietnam fight with china for 1000 years and war with fought with america in 70's. china still claims vietnam.still america and china are vietnams biggest traders. we south asians cant get over the kashmir conflict, when we all know the solution to kashmir. we have similar culture, language. but we are unnecessarily emotional. very emotional. this century is asian. not american nor european but asian. i as an indian would support china rather than america. for last 1800 years of 2000 years, india and china contributed to 50 percent world GDP and had no conflict. india need to solve problems with china too. china is just a little concerned to see india moving towards america which i personally think wont lead to anything. pakistan should accept india as it is. india has accepted pakistan already. thats what the 23rd march PM Modi letter was indicating. Also Democracy and Capitalism, all day every day.
very well nuanced lads. cheers.
Uzair was on point about the dynamics between India and Pakistan, It is often dubbed as the D-D-D dogma, Disruption-Discussion-Disruption. It is in the interests of a specific class/organisation of pakistan, that India is continued to be perceived as a mortal threat to pakistan, which justifies their existence, and the amount of privileges they enjoy. Maybe with the escalation of the Afghan issues now, the army would realise they have another issue to justify their overprivileged existence and want to toe a more submissive line on India.
I think you will enjoy Thomas Pickety.
The issue with indian subcontinent is they are not sure whether they all want democracy or dictatorship. All of them like to have power but still going with flawed democracy. So they are using every devide and rule tactic to be in power in a name of democracy.

At best, all that we can hope between India and Pakistan is that between suspicious neighbors who have no other option other than learning to live with each other. Forget the Aman-ki-Asha bakwaas. Given the 1000- year old history of the Indian subcontinent, this is all we can expect.
If day and day put you call India a fascist state, Modi a hitler, compare RSS and BJP to Nazis, Indians have learned to deal with Pakistan with suspicion from a position of strength.

I listen to guys very carefully, not once you say what is good India done over the years. And how can Pakistan implement the same? Just like lifting people out of poverty. India lifted 200 million people out of poverty, with democracy intact. Secondly, you guys still want to believe that India is a poor country that is against Muslim. Seems like even the well-read and good people of Pakistan are still living in the delusion that India is a poor country and we do have poor people. But is also true that We are the third-largest economy by GDP (PPP).
India also has 1.4 billion people. The GDP per capita of India is around 2000 USD [BDSH 2000 USD, PAK 1300 USD], whereas the Global average is around 18000 USD. So yes, India definitely is a poor country.

Toh thoda apne bubble se bahar aao aur dekho unki bhi halaat jinko humne apne democratic achievements aur jo thodi bahut prosperity hui hai uska hissa nahi banaya hai. Aur kyunki hum apparently ek democracy hain unke iss haal ki collective responsibility hum logon par hai jinko desh aazad hone ka fayeda hua hai.
