I use cw, ssb, and digital fm voice with my 705 on vhf. I can’t do that with an HT. Plus its receiver is far better than that of an HT also it has a waterfall.
I wish we could get an "All-Band/All-Mode" radio or just a VHF/UHF radio that had 1.25m, 33cm, and 23cm. From a pepper standpoint, I think there's definitely an interest for 900MHz (33cm) since it's a shared band and is used by Meshtastic and more.
There is a point of diminishing returns with that, I think. You got to be where the masses are, unfortunately. More bands would be great, but in the lesser used bands the less people. BUT on the other hand… for those concerned with security, the lesser used bands would be better!
I could not stand the receiver on the IC-705 on HF. It was scratchy, and harsh, and it gave me a headache. No matter what I tried with the filtering on it, I could not get a satisfactory sound out of it. So, I traded it with another ham for a Yaesu FTdx-10. Much better receiver. Now, I'm looking forward to the new Yaesu FTX-1F, with the Yaesu DSP. It should also have dual receive. Yeah, it might be expensive, but so was the IC-705.
I’m interested in seeing how the FTX-1F as well. Not going to hold my breath, but it would be interesting to see if Yaesu follows it up with a QRO version.
I’ll challenge the claim that the 818 and 705 are equal to a handheld in the area that you get all mode for vhf/uhf
Modes that nobody uses on VHF/ UHF on QRP? Especially from a prepper standpoint?
That challenge costed you a timeout, coach.

@ all of witch can be done better with a QRO shack-in-the- box rig… witch was the point of the video… that you clearly missed.
@@Scout75PortableRadio you know me, scout, I just like to stir the pot on occasion lol.
@ that’s because you’re hamtarded.

Lots of good points and food for thought. 73, KF4LMZ
Thanks, Patrick!

The music is annoying & makes listening harder.
I guess you need to watch things that are more simple so you can keep up.
Thanks for trying!
@@Scout75PortableRadio no, it was a good video, just suggesting the music not continue throughout.
