Why would you go to all the trouble to mount it to the light switch and not take power from it? I was intrigued until I saw the cable coming out of the bottom of the finished install.
@@dablet I mean. There is little differnce between the hot, common, and ground in your light switch and your wall plug. The only differences I believe are limitations on amperage and obviusly no plug for it. Realistically if you took any usb charger and took it out of the case and soldered longer wires to where the prongs used to be; you could wrap them around the terminals on the side of the light switch. :)
@@foxman8344 Well it's not quite that easy...don't do it that way! The USB wall plug is stepping down the voltage to 5V, not the 120V at the switch. So you need to find an adapter you can hard-wire in and hide within a mount. I'm sure they are out there...and this company should have done that. If they did, I'd be all over it.
@@MKSmartHouse check out the wall plate night lights, like the "SnapPower Guidelight". They have tabs that touch the terminals of the outlet to send to some light bulbs.
When I 1st seen this, I thought sweet. An easy mount to hang that gets wired into a light switch. Just sucks you have to have it as low as the switch. Then I seen you had the wire just hanging out. If you have to have the wire hang out why would you want to have it attached to a switch? I would rather place it some where else.
Great solution... I tried to reply publicly but didn’t show up, The rectangular switches and outlets are call Decora outlets and switches, just in case someone is trying to purchase new outlet or switch
Good install video. Feel like you should create a mount designed for a traditional switch. Most people don't have a rectangle switch, most just have a traditional flip switch. Feel like you'd be able to sell a lot more
@@MKSmartHouse theres no such thing as an "adapter". You just buy a decora (Or you call, "rectangle") switch for $2 and install it. @@Dennys110582 They make ones that go over a traditional outlet and touch the two screws on either side which outputs 5V USB power. The real problem with switches is that most aren't directly connected to a neutral, so you'd have to tap a jumper into the bundle that's usually in the gang-box.

it seems easy enough to hard wire it, I agree with you
No kidding. What a waste of time to not. lol
what is the best way then?
is there a usb power adapter that can tap power from wires of the light switch?

Hmmm.....Buy an adapter so you can mount your tablet on the wall and still have an exposed wire. Sounds like a great idea. HAHA
NidusLabs.io sells a completely recessed mount for the HD8 with no wires visible.
Any plans for outlets/switches with 2 & 3 rectangle switches on one plate?
Great solution! It would be perfect if there was a way to attach the usb power behind the switch, the cable is a bit unsightly. Great job!
Thanks! I am working on something that could solve this. Personally it does not bother me. But, I understand.
typo lol

I like the idea, but not the exposed cable, and lack of other mounting behind the tablet makes it seem flimsy.
I’m glad he explained how to open the box,

Great idea ! Love it ! Will amazon fire 7 kids edition work on this ?
Great mount! now it would be better if the package has the charger built in for tablet.
Thanks. Improvements: Add a recessed receptacle with USB chargers behind the tablet, and avoid the exposed USB cable.

Thanks really appreciate it! You can still use this with a regular flip switch, you just need to pick up an adapter at your local hardware store.

"A rectangle switch adapter" LOL.
i just used command velcro strips . lol

i think this is very convenient and very simple. thank you
great video
so whats the point of having such contraption??
Sorry but what is the point of having an Amazon Fire stick next to a light switch? Can it control anything like lights, or act as a switch board
Why not connect it to the light switch power supply so no cords ?
if you like wires hanging lmao whats the point! my little one would have it torn down within an hour
Hi. When will this be available again?
Arlington DVFR1W-1 Recessed Electrical/Outlet Mounting Box, Single Gang use this to draw power from the light switch behind the mount.
Then get usb wall outlet
How can I order this Mount???
????????????
I love the idea, but I was disappointed to see that the power was not connected somehow to the light switch. The external USB cable is ugly.
I was hoping would you hide the cables through the wall...
Why not just tap into the switch power to charge?

It's not a "rectangle" switch plate. It's a single switch plate. Or single gang plate.
I think he was talking about a decora plate but wanted more people to understand so he called it "rectangle"
The wall mount looks cheap and the hanging wire would drive me crazy.
Hate the wire, why not use a adapter and get power from the switch? still your cute though...
Uk switch version?
Wow this is so stupid, how is the power not utilized within the switch power?
Okay we need to talk about the walls color... its unholy... call a priest and them exorcised pronto
exercise is for the gym
i liked this video up until that ugly wire that needs an outlet, stick with command strips instead!
Guy is literally an elf.
I am not sure who would buy this product with the wire showing lol
this serves no use woww i have a tablet on my wall soooo cool
The main reason for me to do this, would be for ActionTiles. Other that using it as a smart home control panel, not much use.
Always turn off the power!!!
That wire is ridiculous. You should take the power from the light switch!
not all houses have neutral to the switch
@@SerpentDrago true. And it takes 30 mins max to run one.
why not just hide the cable in the wall, looks tacky
the purpose of a wall mount is to get a clean look. Useless toy, with the wire dangling on the wall. Does this actually get sold?
Is this product serious?
man Simple pimple review for the sake of a review!
Lmao
That’s tacky
