I just can not believe you can utilize fire tablet to this extent. U are like a god! Thanks for sharing all the videos about Fire tablet and those detailed descriptions.
Hi there. Not sure about other countries, but it's against building codes in every state of Australia to put a GPO on a light circuit. It won't immediately catch on fire or anything, but you will be breaking housing codes doing this.
Excellent job my friend! Such a clean and professional look. And up to electrical code. What was actual time for drywall cut? Thanks for your great videos!
@@SimplySmart123 Thanks, one thing I've learned through 30 years of home automation (Started with X10, you're probably too young to remember or know of it) is that spousal acceptance factor (SAF) is YUUGE!
I actually started with X10 also! It was cheap and had many options. Have a box it the attic of X10 stuff still haha. Yea, Lera was like, “why do we need this” but now she’s like I really like this! She likes to impress company with our smart home 🏠
Wonder if you can get a smart usb outlet and schedule it to turn off to cycle the battery. I know some also will replace a security keypad and use the wires from that with a voltage converter.
That’s a great ideal. Like have it turn off for 10 hours and back on for 10 hours. I also have a security key pad that I plan to replace with just a tablet so I will figure out how to do that and make a video on it!
@Simplysmart123 - can you comment on whether these is adequate space around the viewable screen to allow swiping up or down to access the toolbars? It looks like a ton of space at left & right, but the top & bottom look marginal. I have a mount from another vendor and it is impossible to swipe up/down/in without removing the front cover.
I actually added that to some furniture nearby on the back so I always have a paper clip when needed. Kinda hard to open it so on the inside would be challenging.
Nope. But you could wire it like that if you wanted to. By using the neutral wire the switch has no control over the outlet. If you used the two black wires it would be linked to the switch state.
I can't exactly tell what all you have in the switch box, but 1. Check if it needs bonding (this is a metal box and depends on your code). 2. Even if not, clamping should be best practice when running romex in a wall. In my state, and according to NEC, suspended nonmetallic is against code. I'm not much of a code junkie but without clamping you do run into a gravity fed fire risk if your fasteners lose torque over time (hint: they do). Most likely you will probably be fine.
Is is possible to put a smart outlet in the recessed box? I would like to do that so I could set a automation for charging to avoid battery bloat. Suggestions?
There are no issues working on electricity in the US. There are codes put in place and as long as you follow them there will be no issues. I am not an electrician but the standard are very basic.
Wouldn't it be a little safer to use a pigtail instead of double tapping the switch? Great video though! Helpful to see someone else do it before I destroy my wall.
Nice job. Love the recessed outlet and the wall mount. Question: are you “allowed” to put an outlet on the same circuit as lights? Thought I had read recently that those are supposed to be on separate circuits.
Thanks! Not sure about having to be on separate circuits. I am not an electrician but as long as you do the wiring correctly I don’t think it would ever be an issue. Main thing with electricity it to have tight connections.
Bad practice to reuse the wire nut. Always replace with a fresh wire nut of the proper size for the number of and gauge of wires being connected together.
Another Question,Is it ok that I wall mouted my tablet using velcro?(Its a very old tablet) and can you wall mount phones as a control panel/clock/Digital Picture Frame? I Dont see anyone wall mounting an unused android or any phone for that matter!
@@SimplySmart123 oh gotcha thanks. One last thing. Sorry for so many questions. Do you know how I can keep my screen in while charging? The dev option dims the screen
@12:20: for anyone thinking of going DIY...PLEASE don't use an Xacto knife/box cutter if you can't be arsed to put it down briefly to pull the sheathing back. We wouldn't want to see you damn near slice your finger while holding it like this guy was doing. SAFETY. FIRST. OTHER THAN THAT...good video.
You could run the wires on the outside of the wall but you would have to have special equipment to cut the concrete out where needed. If it’s cinderblock wall you might be able to run the wires through the halls of the cinderblocks. But I have never tried this myself.
@@SimplySmart123 Yup. I am building an apartment in the Caribbean and planning to have some smart items to control and view with Apple Home app....but walls are made of concrete, I should've asked the hole to be made in advance...sigh...
This is awesome until someone in your house says, "I don't like it there..." (as was my situation). TIP: Practice your drywall patch, mud and taping technique.
LOL. At that point, you just tell them “well it’s already installed so it’s gonna have to stay here, but if you want it somewhere else we will have to add another one!”
First you need to determine which wire is delivering the power. Once you know that you can turn off the power. Otherwise you would have a 50% chance of your wiring actually working.
Yea I didn’t have one so for me it would be an expense and I don’t cut dry wall very frequently. I will add it to the description as something that is needed as a razor blade process is much harder!
Voice only allows you to control devices. What a dashboard does is allows you to visualize and control your smart home making it easy for anyone to turn on lights and see if a light is left on outside in the garage or upstairs. Obviously everyone set up is different so you may not need this but I would at least try it because it is completely free to just have a basic set up. Also have you ever had a voice command not work on the first try? By using a dashboard You can turn off the lights and on lights just by tapping in less than a second. No waiting for the voice command to go through and no having to repeat yourself.
Let me know how you will use your new wall-mounted tablet!

Connect it to a Bluetooth speaker 🔈 for big sound also
Thanks for making this video! It gave me the confidence I needed to take on this project and get my tablet mounted.
Great! You will love it.
Just finished up a home assistant build...this tut is going to help me install a panel on the 2nd floor. thank you.
Fantastic! now you can see your smart home and control it with your finger!
Amazing guide ! I’ll use it 🎉
Glad I could help! SharpTools is a great addition to any Smart Home
Wonderful tutorial! You guys do a great job. Thanks a bunch.
Thank you and you are welcome!
Great and inexpensive set up love the work that you do keep it up
Thank you! Very inexpensive and looks awesome when completed!
great tutorial....thanks
You are very welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed it and found it easy to follow.
Thanks for the video. This is what I was looking for to install a tablet mount. I have a smart light switch will this method work
For SharpTools to work I need to have your smart switch in a supported hub.
Thanks for the video! This was super helpful!
Great! Glad to hear it!
Thanks for the video. I've got three of these to install and the timing is perfect.
Great! It will be easy for you now!
Where did you purchase reset box or deep wall box?
I think I have a link in the description. It was hard to find!

Not sure about the codes but i think in the USA it’s acceptable. It works fine and only charging a Fire tablet at 100% via USB.
It is allowed, but you're not allowed to change wire gauge.
Excellent job my friend! Such a clean and professional look. And up to electrical code. What was actual time for drywall cut? Thanks for your great videos!
Thanks! Yea the final look is amazingly clean. The drywall cut it at 1000x the real time. I have many more videos coming! 😊

Swiping is not an issue with this mount. I don't do it too often but it does work usually on the first or second try.
add a magnet in there with hot glue to have somewhere to stick the paperclip
I actually added that to some furniture nearby on the back so I always have a paper clip when needed. Kinda hard to open it so on the inside would be challenging.
Nice, Coulld you mount the fire tablet mount behind the recessed box frame instead to get the mount flush with the wall?
It might interfere with the tablet. You don’t have to use a recessed box. I have a video coming on that.
So does this wiring configuration mean that flipping that switch will toggle the power to the tablet?
Nope. But you could wire it like that if you wanted to. By using the neutral wire the switch has no control over the outlet. If you used the two black wires it would be linked to the switch state.

There are no issues working on electricity in the US. There are codes put in place and as long as you follow them there will be no issues. I am not an electrician but the standard are very basic.
In the US, the home owner and or a permanent resident of the house can work on electricity.
do you know were to find a mount for Samsung Tab S7 ?
How’s the finish on the mount? I bought one awhile back, and you could see all the print lines, just looked bad.
It’s very good. Very smooth and no print lines on the exterior.
The face is smoothed nicely but the edges definitely have print lines
I would say that it has a consistent lines on the edge further enhancing the look and feel of the mount.
Wouldn't it be a little safer to use a pigtail instead of double tapping the switch? Great video though! Helpful to see someone else do it before I destroy my wall.
Either way is probably fine. I just wanted to limit potential areas of failure.

SimplySmart123 ✅ I checked and it appears to be ok though not recommended. Thanks for the reply though.
Bad practice to reuse the wire nut. Always replace with a fresh wire nut of the proper size for the number of and gauge of wires being connected together.
Good tip Thomas. Thanks for your input.
Or throw away the wire nuts and invest in some Wago connectors.

For sure. As long as it says up. The main benefit of the frame around the tablet is to hide the power wire mostly.
@@SimplySmart123 oh gotcha thanks. One last thing. Sorry for so many questions. Do you know how I can keep my screen in while charging? The dev option dims the screen
If you use the fully kiosk browser it will always stay on. Otherwise I think 30 minutes is the longest without any activity.

OTHER THAN THAT...good video.
I still have all my fingers, but I did buy a drywall saw. Much easier.
The worst is when there's no neutral wire in the switch box, but thankfully that's less common these days!
Neutral wires are very important for a smart home.
The big question would be how can I get this on a wall made of concrete, not sheetrock....
That would be much more difficult.
Why would I do this??
So you can see and interact with your smart home. Also makes your smart home simple for anyone in your home or even visitors.

If you use a jigsaw you can cut the hole in 30 sec
True.
Probably a good idea to turn off the breaker when working with electricity.
First you need to determine which wire is delivering the power. Once you know that you can turn off the power. Otherwise you would have a 50% chance of your wiring actually working.
Use a drywall cutter, not a box cutter. Same price, but one will get the job done in 10 seconds.
Yea I didn’t have one so for me it would be an expense and I don’t cut dry wall very frequently. I will add it to the description as something that is needed as a razor blade process is much harder!
too bad tablets dont have qi wireless charging...
Yea that would be nice. Probably along way away for fire tablets
I thought my fire 8hd had q1, I better check as that was my next project.
But why? When you can just use voice
