  • Hello Everyone. This is a basic instructional Video on the ART SGX 2000. This is my Favorite Rack unit, and everyone likes to talk trash about it. Mostly because they don't know how to use it. When I first got it, I had no idea how to do anything. After a few weeks I pretty much know what I'm doing. Even still there are no instructional videos anywhere, only very crappy demo videos that people just like to clown on. So, if you have this unit, or want to get into one, no fear. Just watch this video and take it from there.
And please, if you have any questions or need a hand with anything feel free to leave a comment and I would be glad to help out 🤘🏼
    Rock on

I have one of these and have had it for years. Regular maintenance and taking care of it, it'll last for quite a while. I keep hearing people saying, mostly from during 2020 lockdown, that (does dorky weird voice) "It's so 80's...its the most 80's thing I've ever heard..."
Well there's a reason for that brain-child, it came out in the 80's. ALL the pre-sets were sounds from popular sounds of the 80's and 90's that guitarists were trying to mimick. All 130 pre-sets were from other bands and styles. If you bothered to "read the manual", which no one did, you could pretty much get any sound you wanted to.
When I had the ART SGX T2 it had the basic sounds, over time I actually have quite a few channels that sounds more common now. It was really innovative in the late 80's early 90's.
When I first got it back in '89, I had 2 KMD Stacks, a Peavy 7000 power Amp, and the ART SGX T2 and played a Custom B.C. Rich Gunslinger. Over the years I've added equipment and guitars.. it still sounds great.
Not sure why everyone hates on it but I can tell they don't know how to use it, they just know how to play with it. To be fair.. when it first came out, a lot of people just plugged it in and started playing with it. They probably never read a manual either, much less understood what it was saying.
With the right settings, you'll never need another effects processor.
I will admit, its dated and older.. and there are better smaller versions of the same things out now, and yes they cost a lot..sign of the times. But if you have one of these, they can be very useful...not to mention that at a price of around $250 on E-Bay... if you play out, it would actually pay for itself and its a nice back-up in case your primary goes not to mention fun to use.
People really need to stop hating on things they don't understand how to use.

Great reply man. We are one in the same. Which is why I made this video. I made it directly in response of the “totally 80’s cool surfer dude” videos. It’s a great piece of gear, and I use it in conjunction with my 5150iii daily. I have a few other Rack units (Q2, and a Lexicom MPX-1) and I don’t even use those all to often. I’m just also glad that the man I bought of from took really good care of it, and had both of the original manuals, the original, the upgraded version, and the x-15 manual. It was a little intimidating when I first got it because I’m a child of the late 90’s and 2000’s when most rack gear was not being used and everything was “pedal this and pedal that”. So by the time I got around to actually getting one, all the older dudes aren’t around on the internet to teach the younger crowd, or nobody to help teach it from experience. That’s why I made the video. Rack gear is somewhat having a re-emergence. And I can’t stand all those stupid UA-camr videos that just basically make fun of old gear (and little do they even realize that their ‘cool new boss pedal’ is just a rehashed old Roland rack unit algorithm from the 80’s)

@@Ominous_guitars All of those other videos that they say "OMG its so 80's" and they laugh or "This thing is a dinosaur.." Look at when they made these videos. They were made when people were in mandatory lock-down. They were miserable and looking for an outlet, and as a friend of mine would say, projecting their opinion onto everyone else.
I made the switch to rack units for several reasons. but the main reason was because I was doing a show and I had an "Equipment assisted" Operator malfunction LMAO
I tripped over my cords on stage and fell into the audience and landed in a girls lap. She wasn't hurt nor myself or the guitar.
Anyway, literally the next day I went to the guitar shop, and started checking out rack units.
The really great thing was that the floor/sales person totally knew the equipment, how to program it and understood everything that the readouts were saying and was able to tell me and literally teach me how to use the unit in the course of 30 to 45 minutes. And that manual was easily 175 to 200 pages long.
The ART SGXT2 effectively replaced ALL the pedals I owned which were Boss and Roland and even covered the pedals I didn't have and never needed to get after getting the ART.
The companies no longer support or fix these units, but you can still find people that can fix them..its just a little difficult as time are changing and technology is advancing. But just because these units are older doesn't mean their useless... Old not obsolete. They're also making a comeback and I wouldn't be surprised if another company came along to start making a new rack unit like the ART or the GSP.
Also, Crate has been offering amplifiers that have a similar synthesizer built into it and its USB capable.. so if they're able to do it, another company just might create a new rack unit that can do this as well. Just a matter of time and timing.

I have one and gigged with it for years. I also have a midi foot switch. I get a killer hair metal tone. I use the tube overdrive boosted by a ts9 tube screamer.
I have presets with chorus, pitch shift, delay, reverb.

Hell yea man. I have the X-15 ultra foot as well. I boost it with the overdrive channel
Of my EVH 5150. I love this thing.

    Glad to find this!
Have one. This vid will help as it's not the easiest unit to use, but... the SGX can be useful still.
Mine needs some work. I think the battery has failed so it's time to rip it open as A.R.T. doesn't work on them anymore.

Hey man! No problem! That’s why I made this video. I’m so glad I’m actually helping people. This is my favorite unit I have and I use it daily. Swapping the battery is super easy. Just unscrew the top panel and it’s right there!

      Thanks for the battery info!
While I've got it open I'll clean up some scratchy pots, change the battery and maybe even the tube. A lot of the factory presets have nasty high-pitched screeching going on. I'm guessing the tube has issues.

I still use mine. It is my avatar image 😀. The express version and last updated BIOS. I leave out any distortion (preamp) effect and just use the FX. I use my drive pedals through the FX loop (which comes before the FX but can be assigned post compressor). The Mix knob is important. So is the EQ. I also run a boost into the front input. I wish the internal Preamp selection was better. Turbo Tubes, Overdrive Tube, Solid Super and Stack are ok but your average Dsitortion should sound better going through the FX loop. 🍻 Also, it sounds very good coming out of the balanced outs into a computer interface using Impulse Responses for a cabinet.

How do i connect it to my amps loop effect?

    • @Ominous_guitars
      @Ominous_guitars  8 місяців тому

Hey man. It should go Amp send-> ART receive: ART send-> Amp receive.
If it is a little unclear still, you can send me a Dm over on Instagram @ominous_guitars and I can send you quick video on how I have mine set up. I have mine a little different since I use it as a stereo set up going to two separate amps. But it’s the same regardless.
