    Id take a Flagg build over a Ripsaw build any day. Both saws looked good.

    I have always thought the 400 out of the box is probably the most versatile saw Stihl has. The power to weight ratio is fantastic. It really punches above its cc class stock and with a conservative port job is just phenomenal.

    Rip off saw is major expensive. I'd much rather have you or Aaron Lynch port my saws for half the price and better performance! Jmo! Also I've done pretty good myself as maybe you remember I followed your port on that 044 I did and it's still fast and strong! Always thankful for what you share!

      The craftsmanship and port work was very good on the 462. Good solid build. They are pricey tho.

      I’d take a Flagg build over a Ripsaw build. These were both nice saws.

      @@oakiewoodsman I have no idea what the numbers turned out to be but I took screen shots of Richard's work and my daughter blew up the pics with her wisdom and we did some grinding with nothing special but a small dremmel type deal my friend has that owns the saw. Like I told Richard at the time I'm sure it's not like his port job because I'm guessing we were fairly conservative but my good friend says it's better by far that it was! I also did some grinding on my 024 quite some time ago and did the same and followed J and s chainsaws port work the best I could and it's also better that stock. Not touching my new saws though if I decide to do anything more than muffler mods they will be done by someone reputable. Will be down the road though quite some time as I have to save for vehicle maintenance. Car needs 500 in parts and labor and truck 1000.

    Love the videos rich. You should do a video comparing a bar box with just a run of the mill muffler mod. BBs are nice, but damn they are loud

    I find almost every saw except super small saws will pull an 8 pin perfectly well if you can keep a sharp chain

    I have a 400 and its my favorite saw just so versatile. The power to weight is awesome. . Only complaint i have is when u run a 25 inch bar it dont oil the best.

    It sounded like the 400 with the 8 pin stayed on the pipe better. Both are beasts and not bogging down

  • @z1berzerker
    @z1berzerker 7 місяців тому +4

    The 400 is surprisingly fast with the 8pin... hmm interesting 🤔 would have thought the 462 ripsaw build would have smoked it. You must build a solid saw 👍😎

    The power band on the 400 sounds SO much better than the 462 to me for some reason. I hope Stihl makes more saws with the mag piston.

    Your videos are informative! Good job👍. If I had to, I would choose the 400. I just looked at Stihlusa and they do not have the 400 listed. The 462 is $1300+ and the 362 is around $900. I would guess it would be somewhere in between those two.

    Ive watched another vid, where the 462 outperformed the 400. I have 3 461's I am going to try and keep running as long as i can.

    • @richardflagg3084
      @richardflagg3084  6 місяців тому

      462's should outperform 400's if done well. Love the 461's too. Stihl has done a great job lightening up the 400 and 462. If you run saws a lot, a pound or two lighter adds up as the day goes on.

  • @jimssawsnstuff8903

    I think your 400 was a second faster than the 462 on the big log with 7 pin to 7 pin. Which is surprising 😜👍

    Great shootout.
    I tend to enjoy my ported 400 over my ported 462. I feel the 400 takes better to port work, and it has a more usable power band.

    As much as I like my 400, there's no way it hangs with my 462. Ported or otherwise.
    The port work must be equal to each model in that " work saw " , " GTG saw, " or race saw " builds be compared evenly.
    The decal on the 462 means nothing IMO.
    Your 400 runs good Richard. Not taking a shot.
    Trying to be realistic.
