Working in the automotive industry for over 20 years, I have seen these electronic rust proofing cause more bad than good. Hope they fixed up the areas good and you enjoy many more years of your tripping around. Always great to watch 👍
Mate, good on you for making this video. To often you see social media influencers plugging a product, which is fine if it is a good product, but not often do you see someone shining a light on something that has not lived up to expectations. I thought you handled it really well.
Hi Wayne, Thank you for posting this, I didn't install electronic rust proofing because I couldn't find any real world proof to convince me it worked. The 10 year warranty they offer exactly matches the 10 year warranty the car manufacturer offers, to the point if you add the rust proofing at 2 years old they only give you 8 years warranty.
Thank you for making this video. I was on the fence about whether or not I should buy this system. This video says it all. Snake oil. They won't be seeing any of my money.
"Poke your finger through rust" the thing is surface rust doesn't start and then stop suddenly it only gets worse so eventually after 6 more years it will be so bad then "Oops warranty is out" what a bunch of BS, thanks for showing us and letting us know about these crooks!
I’m sorry for your poor experience with this product but thank you for highlighting a product that should be avoided. Consumer law should be on your side.
Thanks for the video. I was planning on getting coupler tech installed tomorrow at Downey Street Rustproofing but after seeing video Coupler Tech seems dishonest and I’ll stick to chemical rustproofing only.
Hi Wayne, I've had a Couplertec for over 14 years on my Patrol. This car has seen plenty of salty beaches and has surface rust on most bare metal areas. I was told before purchase it won't stop surface and small rust, it's designed to save your car from rusting out like an old Ford. I'm happy with my unit and I never had it checked because I know warranties are a waste of time. Even if you had it inspected by an authorised dealer every year I don't think they should fix your car because it isn't very rusty. Your rust is within spec. I think they'll come to the party and fix because of social media pressure. Good luck with it all. Marty from Perth
Exactly Marty, even says at the end of the vid that it was repaired in 1 1/2 hours so must have been real bad lol. would like to know if it was repaired what's the issue, blowing up about nothing. I reckon the main aim here is to grow a Chanel with so called alarming content. pretty obvious.
Well this has me a little concerned. I’ve recently bought two Couplertec units but yet to have them fitted to my car & a large mowing trailer that has its own solar battery system .
I've been using inox lanolin sprays on my 80 series for over 30 years and the stuff is great I apply a full coating to the underbody, inside the doors under the bonnet inside the chassis rails ect. over 30 years it has probably cost me well over a thousand bucks in 30 years to spray it on 2 times a year but worth every cent. I do have a small rust bubble in the bottom of the drivers door drivers door and am sure there is some rust in the top off my windscreen as I have a few drips water every time it rains should be easy to fix and not cost too much. No product is 100% but i would recommend inox lanolin sprays i have nothing to do with them other than buying there products every 12 months if im lucky i get it on sale when SCA has 20-50% off sales and i will buy it then
How has the underbody rustproofing job faired from Redcliffe? Ive been looking for someone to do this but noticed a lot also flog Couplertec so I immediately dismiss them.
The reason for the 10 year warranty is by the time it completely rusts through like what he was saying. The warranty will be gone. Or in most cases people get rid of their vehicles before then.
Hi Wayne, Electronic Rust proofing is very much a borderline SCAM on vehicles. If it was a ship or building, IT Works! As there anodes placed in ground or water around the vessel or structure for current to run though. They rust instead of superstructure(mostly). All I see on these systems, is some LED lights and maybe a couple of grams of Zinc alloy (or whatever they use) as a supposed sacrificial anode. For it to have any chance of working on a car. You would probably need to place a box on every door, bonnet, main body, chassis, diffs & drivetrain components. Very impactable.
Try to look up the professional beach fisho from tweed that took them to court .. Might be hard pressed to find the info, as I think they put a supression order on it as part of the conditions of payout ...
If it got fitted at the dealership, make them pay for it. They sold it to you. If They didn't supply it then they won't want to pay.... that's how dealers are.
Wow. He stated "We can't stop oxidation on bare metal." Every 4WD ends up with stone chips, at least underneath (chassis rails, underbody...). Seriously, that is not what their marketing has us/people believe This is potentially false advertising. I'd try Consumer Affairs. Lodge a complaint, you have nothing to lose. Warranties can't dilute consumer legislation/consumer rights. He also mentions read the fine print. When is it available? Before purchase? I wasn't made aware of it. The spirit of the law will be the inspections are carried out by their network so the people have the expertise to do the inspection. Yes, the outlet was no longer a dealer but it could easily be established they had the ability to perform a satisfactory inspection. A side point, the Couplertec selector on their website includes a selection, does the car have existing rust. This may be more about them covering their behind than product selection. Their service was surprising, it appeared terrible. I'll never buy or recommend Couplertec again. I'll highlight this video. That's all people need to know to make an informed decision.
If you wish to contact me. I've had dealings with this bloke and you might like to hear what his response to me was when l had a vehicle that was 18 months old and it literally had flaking rust absolutely everywhere on my chassis. what a joke from CouplerTec mind you I think there is plenty of evidence out there that the whole thing does not work. Their excuse is ridiculous how are you supposed to know as a customer if a mechanic changes his "status". Take ‘em to court mate
I'd be ropeable over this. You paid big money for something with a ten-year warranty that's failing after 4 and a half and the manufacturer is using a loophole to not honour the said warranty. Wow. I had to "speak to management" myself, describing (politely) how I felt about the manufacturer warranty failure. After seeing this I think I'll stick to my old tried and true method of using Blackjack or something similar myself. At least I know that it will work and won't cost me a year's rego. I'm annoyed that this has happened to you, Wayne.
A warranty means nothing. Speak to fair trading and outline the issues to them. At the end of the day they can force a company ( through heavy fines and penalties) to honour the claimed warranty regardless of what the company says if they (fair trading) deem the product does not live up to its claims.
Was researching couplertec, not buying it now. They are betting on denial of claim. The reason the guy in the video is uncomfortable is because he know his job is to deny claims as a default position, he isnt there to help. Hes there to manage you.
Consumer affairs and warranty is NOT negotiable. Couplertec IS responsible as all products must work for a "reasonable" time. I would talk it further. Look up John Cadogan on youtube he has plenty of videos about this...You are within your rights to claim and Couplertec are liable
I've never bought into the idea that these eRust proofing devices work. If they worked, I have no doubt car manufacturers will fit them to all their vehicles, and they'll be as common as ABS and airbags in cars. But they don't. Instead car manufacturers continue to invest millions in R&D to improve their vehicles anti-rust proofing.
I was given one and tried it out of interest. their claims are completely false. See, electricity flows from Negative to Positive. This is how your entire electric circuits work. If you, in this case, were to be putting 360v through the chassis, it would fry every component. If the principles they try and sell were valid, your cars electrical system would do it anyway, as there are earth points front to rear. Great little scam for those that were flogging it though, all you get when searching is ASIC and Fair trading documents against it and not one piece of evidence for it.
What a scum bag company. Literally admits that his product doesn’t work. He can drop dealers when he feels so your warranty is void without you knowing. I hope they get sued into bankruptcy. So the product is supposed to recent rust but he literally says that it doesn’t prevent rust multiple times
What a bloody joke is that rust proofing company. If they were at all concerned with their reputation they would honour their warranty. All this does is to reinforce the idea that they are just another dodgy Australian company out for the dollar with no responsibility. Low lifes.
