Dennis Olof The Gh4 already had it. The recording options seem like a carbon copy from the Gh4 I also saw that it had the 100-200 mbps ALL I 1080p. Also DCI 4k at 24fps. Panasonic practically unlocked the full force of this processor in this affordable well thought out package.
I always like the reviews that come from The Camera Store. They're generally honest appraisals and don't pull any punches or hedge in an effort to avoid saying anything too negative about other camera brands that they might carry. I also like the way the reviews focus (no pun intended!) not just on image quality, but overall usability, along with any potential pros and cons.
Chris, after a zillion articles and comparisons online your video and evaluation put me over the line, I just ordered the FZ2500. Don't get to handle cameras every day, most show rooms around my area don't even have a Panasonic FX2500 for me to hold and understand what is good and not so good about the camera. You, on the other hand, get to do that all time, and that reinforces my decision making. Thank you for your reviews.
I'm buying this ( in stead of Sony RX10 III) after watching ur video, although I've many cameras e.g. FUJI XT1, XT2, FZ200, GH2 and LX15 etc. I'm getting old (65) and and I travel a lot. So Fuji XT1+XT2+lenses etc for home use only, but FZ2500 for travel as I don't need to carry lenses. Thank you guys, love your videos!!!!!!
I pre-ordered this camera from you and got it on Monday. So far it is living up to the hype and I'm very happy with it. Thanks for all your reviews and my experience with the shop was very pleasant (online sales dept). Will be picking up the V-log soon too!
I sold my FZ1000 last week and got the FZ2500 yesterday. Have only played with it for a few hours but already find out this is a nice upgrade. The new features make this camera a great all-around Run & Gun video camera.
I've had the FZ1000 for a year now and absolutely love it. Kind of wish I held out and got this, though. The video improvements look fantastic. Just wish it was weather sealed.
I second Raychristophers' comments. Kudos. You really need to step up to broadcast TV and or movies. If you haven't already lol. Your on-camera presence is one of the best Ive seen in a very long time.
I have one of these and I use the crap out of it. One point that is really important to me is the unlimited record time. I have a Sony rx10 Iv as well and I forget about the 29/30 minute recording limit. I’m a solo creator and it really stinks when you don’t realize that you just lost the last 10 minutes because the camera stopped recording. Anyway, I love the FZ2500. For all the reasons you talked about in this video. Cheers Rick / AirgunWeb
I wish you would have gone more in-depth on the video capabilities. Maybe talked about it's ability or lack of shutter angle. Thanks for all the videos you guys do put out. TheCameraStoreTV is almost always my first stop to find out more about cameras.
Thanks for such a great review! You guys have been so helpful with your informative videos that I decided to go with this camera. I’ll see you in store very soon!
Love that the bass guitar intro is back. Sad there was no Jordan for the video part. :( I have an RX10ii, which I'm mostly happy with. However, the lack of touch screen, inability to flip/rotate the screen, and a number of other small annoyances means I'll be taking a closer look at the FZ2500. I'll miss the faster lens and quality slow motion of the RX10ii though. Decisions, decisions... Wonder if anyone will consider a trade.
I am in the same boat. I shoot Sony and biggest issue is moving the focus point with the click wheel (although it has face and eye AF, not always reliable with groups of people). I bought and never loved the RX10iii. ND filters and touchscreen are definitely a plus. What did you end up doing?
In short, I've done a lot of research on what I want, and my timing was perfect with this release. This is a BIG purchase for me (2k NZ), but I've waited years for something like this. This was 7 years ago. I was waiting for maybe another upgraded camera since I had the fz1000 (original). Of course now the mkii is out and newer but ultimately I decided to still get the 2500 for extra reach, faster burst mode, ND filter etc. The 2500 still sells for 1249 CAD and up. I did look at Sony rx10 mk iv but it's almost double the cost for not much more benefit (a bit more reach and a tiny bit better aperture settings is not worth 1000.00 to me. Selling my fz1000 and going with fz2500 with the fl550l external flash and lumix remote shutter release (eliminates camera shake alltogether). Also got a good cold shoe mount shotgun mic for video. This is honestly best balance of sensor size vs zoom range. A dslr with several lenses to cover up tp 480mm equiv would cost way more (I ultimately sold my dslr and lenses for the fz1000) and be much more bulk to carry around! As they say best camera is the one you have with you all the time and all in one for me is best.
This video convinced me to buy it! Not hard when Canon are left behind in terms of 4K features... Just uploaded a video mucking about with the insane zoom range
One big question looming for this cam is what I call, "Micro" jello shake at long tele end combined with the OIS+ 5-axis stabilizer system. As I said in the previous comment, there are very few reviews/previews on this cam that illustrate the critical questions us working Joe's need answered, etc. On several of these short sample FZ2500 YT videos it shows a strange "micro" jellow jitter; Im not sure if it is physical handheld error OR a possible flaw in the combination of both the optical & electrical stabilizer. Again, I've seen this maybe twice and it seems to show at the long end of the focal lengths, etc. Would love to see a test of the 5-axis stabilizer on the FZ2500!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks guys!
This micro jello is the stabiliser working hard, which happens on long focal length hand held shots where the hands are not particularly steady. You see on lots of Panasonic cameras. I saw this on reviews of the FZ1000 but it was never a problem when I had it so long as you hold the camera properly when shooting. The stabiliser, even in 4K, is very good.
Awesome vid as usual! I suspect that the Panasonic was more accurate at autofocus in your test in significant part because its ISO or F Stop (or both) were set to expose much brighter. Consider the difference in (1) exposure that you see on the brick wall in each and every one of the Panasonic vs. Sony frames from 9:20-9:55 in the video. Moreover, notice (2) how much more the background (e.g. the car) is in focus in the Sony's frame; it's clearly shot at a higher effective F Stop. Without equal light hitting the sensor (due to differences in F Stops) or equal gain (through ISO settings) there cannot be an equitable comparison. Thus one would need to re-do the test to compare the relative autofocus capabilities. But awesome video and thank you again, "Crushin' it" Chris and "Jammin" Justin!
What is the manual focus like during a zip zoom? If you auto focus on a far distant subject at maximum zoom, then switch to manual focus mode and fast zoom out to wide and back in again at close up, does the lens maintain focus throughout the range and hold it at the wide angle end? Almost performing like a par focal lens ( although I think the lens itself is not actually a par focal lens?) Thanks
Common amateur photographers love the power zoom but with interchangeable lenses the power zoom isn't very common. With bright expensive lenses it is very rare. However during the film era Minolta has a Xi series of a-mount lenses with motorized zoom. The 28-80mm xi f4-5.6, 28-105mm xi f3.5-4.5, 35-200mm xi f4.5-5.6, 80-200mm xi f4.5-5.6, 100-300mm xi f4.5-5.6.
After I have seen this nice video, I brought FZ2000 in UK. One thing I like to know, once I set up 4K mode I knew the E-Stabilization will be grey out, (only seen from their web site but not from the manual.) but when I turn to A mode to film still photo, the E-Stabilization is still grey out, I need to set up into 1080p video mode then I can get 5-axis Stabilizer Function ON on both if I take still picture , it is not convenience to do it . Do you camera the same like me, you have said in the video, two different areas. Beside FZ2000, I still got GH5 , G80 & GX80, they are all got E-Stabilization in filming 4K & ON all the time. Thanks . Frank Shum
The RX10 II is still the best in my opinion. Can't beat that constant f/2.8 zoom. The variable aperture just kills it for me on any camera. I hate that. btw if you want even better camera than the FZ2500 at less than half the price take a look at the FZ300. That camera is the best all around camera on the planet right now at the lowest price. The FZ300 is a camera for everyone even more so than the FZ2500. That's what I believe. And I'm surprised TCSTV hasn't review that excellent camera. It really deserves praise. Very underrated.
I Currently own its smaller sibling the FZ1000, fun camera but mushy quality compared to the larger Micro 4/3 sensor. Video and Time lapse are great though on FZ1000.
I've heard many comments about the fz2000 not being as sharp as the Sony. I don't doubt this to be the case, however, I'm wondering why it is that in every single side by side image comparison between these two cameras the Sony always looks one or two stops darker than the panasonic? I've seen this odd difference in every comparison I've researched on these cameras.
After considerable research I ended up buying a fz2500 for a light weight day to day and travel camera instead of packing my Nikon D810 and multiple lenses. My comment and question is "what's with 4K video" it is very hard to find a mid range good quality Bridge camera without the over riding focus being on VIDEO? I just want a camera to shoot stills!!!
Please help 😅 Would the 80d be a good enough camera and how is it compared to the 7d and the 5d on the image quality. I saw your review of it and I got excited about getting it because the 5d is not good with telephoto lenses and the 7dii doesn't have a practical screen. Thanks 😃
Looks like a good option for vloggers, especially with the LCD that flips out to the side, so you can still use external mic on the top and have it on a small hand-held tripod. Plus mic jack AND headphone jack FTW. Plus ND filters. This is really making me look forward to the GH5; Panasonic's products have really matured in the video game. I wish they'd make a video-rich APS-C camera to allow for much better low-light performance, but no idea what mount they could use. Someone needs to come up with another open mount format for APS-C like they did with m43. That might've saved Samsung's NX camera line.
Hi and thank you for the very well done review. I own a FZ1000 and I'd like to upgrade to the FZ2500. How do you think the two lenses compare talking about sharpness? Some say the FZ2500 lens is softer than the FZ1000. What do you think? Thank you very much.
If I had the budget, I would buy a GH5 - a focal reducer and the Sigma f/1.8 duo - and have this as a b-cam so I don't have to worry about tele lenses in the GH5 for the most things I would shoot, then also have a Mavic Pro for some drone shots, buy a gimbal and that would be my excellent on the go kit. I just wished it had 240fps but if the GH5 has it, then it won't matter as much.
I use the GH4 and native Panasonic and Voigtlander lenses, and the FZ2500 is going to fit in just fine as both a B-cam and complementary cam. The FZ2500 will be great for run and gun scenarios when moving from indoors to outdoors, as the ND filters can be changed without having to screw on or unscrew something in the front. It will give the ability to quickly zoom from wide to tele without having to change lenses, allowing one to get shots that may be missed during lens changes. On shoots that are in decent light, and documentary rather than beauty B-roll, the FZ2500 will do really well.
I shoot currently with Canon but the weight of all the gear and especially the 100-400 mm L is just too much for vacations as I get older. I was close to going for the RX10 III as a walk about and 4K video for an upcoming cruise to Antarctica. You just convinced me the FZ2500 is far better for my use, I agree ND filters are a must for video. Thanks guys, great reviews as always. One question, do you think I could be won over totally and sell all the Canon gear or do you feel I'd miss the quality for stills? I shoot wild life here in Florida mostly.
I didn't realize it could output 10bit 4:2:2. thanks for the review. Glad I didn't pull the trigger on the RX10. I have a Canon 70D for stills and some video but am looking at getting something like this for travel video.
Chris what do you and Jordan think about the FZ300? That camera ticks a lot of boxes for everybody. And I think it's a very underraded. Any reason you haven't done a review on that? I would love to hear your take on that.
Thanks for the review, very helpful. The FZ2500 looks a chunky, solid camera. Like the touchscreen etc-the stills images look crisp, colourful and detailed, although it seems the highlights get clipped on some pictures. I wish that it had a longer, constant aperture zoom, like the FZ200.
I have used the Fujifilm S1 for the past 3 years, ok it's slow but the 50x zoom range and picture Quality are excellent. I also use a Nikon D5300, Nikon P900 and a Panasonic TZ80. Until the camera manufacturers start producing a minimum 50x zoom with a 1 inch sensor I'm sticking to my Fujifilm S1. Great review by the way. 👍
Question - is the low light also tested in the dark room contrary to the FZ1000, which was under a blanket kind of, pointed out to be ..too dark... and having strange color distortions? Second question , Would it be good to shoot at Music Stage performances, where lighting poses challenges? Thxs in advance Theo - NL
Hello, When you take a photo during filming you have the option to take it in resolution S or in the resolution that was set in the camera manually. When I do this last option the video falters when I take a picture. Is there a solution for this? Or is the only option to take photo's in S if you don't want your video to falter? Thank you very much.
Hi ! Is it possible for you to show me how to adjust my Panasonic FZ-1000 for shooting silky waterfalls and river water ? It's difficult to me because i have bought this camera a few weeks ago.. What basicly i need to know is : do i need to set a time lapse if i've set a 4sec. shutter speed allready for waterfall shooting and how to do this?
Amazing! Finally something better than the RX 10 series! Just one question: Will you do also a LX10/LX15 review? I'm about to buy a G7X m2, but I wanted to understand which one suits best for me! Anyway great video, great review, you always give a complete overview on every camera! Unbeatable!
The FZ1000 was a better value for money and it made Sony come up with the RX10 II sooner than they wanted because of that, FZ1000 not only had 4K compared to the original RX10 but it was much cheaper, in some ways the FZ1000 had already beaten the original RX10. If you don't mind the smaller range and appreciate the extra aperture, the LX15 is a really nice option - even more with 15min 4K video recording while the RX100 is not only more expensive but it only records 4K for 5 min, but at least it has built in ND. The shallow DOF you get in the LX15 is just a shallow as the LX100, which has a bigger sensor, all because of the f/1.4 aperture. Also the LX15 the 5-axis IS which should help with video. I think the LX15 should be better than the Canon G7X II. I didn't dig too deep into this camera but there are already some good reviews out there, I watched some of them but as this is not a camera I want I don't quite remember the pros and cons, so go check them out.
theSUBVERSIVE thanks a lot, your comment was precious! I've watched many videos, but an overall handling experience (and maybe a comparison to something else but the RX100) is missing! I'm talking about something like jpeg processing, dynamic range, focus speed comparison, not only a "vlog camera" point of view!
evvivaDio it's basically the same sensor so DR should be about the same with an edge to the Sonys that have the stacked sensor and copper wiring tech that also has faster readouts. Point to point, as Chris mentioned, the DFD from Panasonic is pretty quick but tracking AF might be better on the newest RX100 - but not so much the older ones, I've seen some vloggers struggling with the AF. Didn't CTSTV review the G7X II? But as they showed it in this video, the LX15 review with the comparisons you want might be coming soon.
+theSUBVERSIVE: I agree with most of what you said, with a few caveats: the LX15 virtual 5-axis stabilization won't work with 4k video, and it's handling seems it main weak point (as opposed to FZ2000 which seems a masterpiece in this regard). It's lens is also slower than Canon's G7X except for
The half-press to shoot customization is genius for avoiding that camera shake. Can you please mention some interchangeable lens cameras (DSLRs and mirrorless) which also have this feature?
i need advice im mainly going to be shooting videos so which camera would you recommend between the g85 or the FZ2000 ?please advise that would be greatly appreciated thanks
Updating my comment, some things are puzzling me. Why doesn't the silent shutter mode stay after changing the photo or filming modes. Each time I have to activate it again. I could understand that this choice gets forgotten when turning the camera off oand on again (although I'd prefer the camera to remember it was off and leave it there). Also, the FZ2000 wouldn't remember my custom WB settings: I change the customizable settings options to different K temperatures and when I get back, they're gone. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, not sure, it's still a very new device for me.. Still love it, great images, even in low light.
Hi Chris, a question to help me make up my mind between the Sony and Panasonic, how is the IQ of still images? From samples I saw on the internet, the Sony seems has more pop and contrast, then there is no a lot of photos sample of the Panasonic available on the net, so rely on your input, thanks, Shaun.
Does it have the 4K crop like the FZ1000? Also how would it compare to the Sony Ax100? Would its image stabilization compare to the Steady Shot for gimbal free shooting?
As posted earlier, it has the same crop as the FZ1000 in UHD 4K which was a limitation. But switch to Cinema 4K (and this is the only bridge/superzoom camera that has it - AFAIK) and the crop goes away. In Cinema 4K you can shoot as wide as 25mm. I too would like to see a comparison with the AX100 for video and stabilisation.
Great and informative video, I really like this camera. Is the Dynamic range good compared to say a G85? What would you pick for travel between this and a X-T2 with the 18-135?
Need help! I just bought FZ2500. No matter how I tried, I could only set up to 60fps with variable frame rate (VBR), instead of 120fps as claimed in most sites. Any idea?
Really excellent in depth review. I came here today after the #dpreview of the Sony RX 10 IV (which came out today) and they mentioned in that review the Panasonic dmc-fz2500. I have to say I really like this camera :-)
Like to begin saying I love your reviews. Just the facts in a well presented "story" as you go out shooting and using the device. BTW, I'm a Canon man and this is definitely on my "next to buy" possibilities. Totally amazed at how well thought out the design and functions are (like the extended viewfinder so the touch screen is thumb/finger accessible) plus even as a pro I'm wanting to explore fixed lens and mirrorless 1" and see if I can unload these heavy pro cameras of mine. Thanks "Thumbs Up"
Great Review, you mentioned something about pricing the adding log profile to the price? Did I miss something in the video re adding D-Log as an option?
I have a FZ1000 must say I don't do much video with it, not sure if I can justify paying £1100 for the FZ2000 (uk) + £100 for V-Log yet. Thanks for your answers.
***** Yeah, it might not be worth because the main upgrades are the V-log possibility and the built-in ND. I think it also has some new 4K feats, better IS, longer focal length, better EVF and the stationary lens, which as Chris mentioned, it allows you to put in a gimbal and not worry about the lens moving back and forward. If any of this is not a must have for you then the update might not be worth it.
You didnt spend much time comparing menu layout and access in the FZ versus the RX. Ive had both in earlier models and found the Panasonic menus more intuitive and easy, the Sony tended to bury important settings and logic wasn't as smooth. Not having seen the FZ2500 any comments on this?
Outstanding review, I don't think folks realize how much time it takes to shoot and edit and narrate something like this. I actually use some of your ideas when I do my own photo gear reviews respect.
Raychristofer Jordan is a video editing sex god, probably effortless
Always happy when your video drops.

hi I am from nepal . I wannt to be a film maker. do you maybe have spare canon eos m? or any video camera that you like to give away?

What I really want is a LX200 though.
The LX100 is a diamond in the rough.
Would like to see it properly cut, polished and shining.
You guys do some of the best camera reviews ever and I really appreciate it :-)

You guys deserve more views and subscribers.

finally....a full review on this camera! I love it. I think this would be a great vacation camera to go with my gopro.
I have watched a few of your camera review videos and I think your channel is the best when it comes to reviewing.
You guys are hands down the best reviewers. Thanks guys

No love for jordan in this video :D
Another great review - detailed for stills and video without pretention, and straight to the point!
5 years have passed and this camera alone is still $1,000. Why? Is there something better now?
Thanks for such a great review! You guys have been so helpful with your informative videos that I decided to go with this camera. I’ll see you in store very soon!
Great review - was still tossed between the RX10 III and this FZ2500 - Looks like the bridge camera to get into the 4K is this FZ2500.
Love that the bass guitar intro is back. Sad there was no Jordan for the video part. :(

Very nicely done Chris! This was the info that we have been searching for! Following you on Instagram.
The video comparison on 9:35 between FZ2000 and Sony RX 10 iii. Wow that's a dark video on the Sony. No wonder they removed the built-in ND filter.
This video convinced me to buy it! Not hard when Canon are left behind in terms of 4K features... Just uploaded a video mucking about with the insane zoom range
Excellent job! Thank you for such a wonderful review! I'm going to buy an Fz2500 now...seriously.
Thanks for the effort man. I've gotten some very good new insights.
Damn that seagull was inspiring.
Great report what's it like now would you still go for it and do you think it is due to be replaced stay safe
What's with the 400 ISO in bright daylight, you've got a 1600th of a second :)
Just as you said there's no birds around, one lands and stretches it's wings at 4:35 on the river behind you.
How did you grade this? The FS5 colour doesn't have that typical greenish yellowish skin tones!
Great Review!! touching all the important stuff.
Great review. Does it have IBIS? How does the stabilization compare to the new dual IS?
Fantastic camera.
You guys really deserve more views and subscribers...... Fantastic work 10/10 Hey I want to know is this camera has built in time-lapse mode feature?
Yes.
Im bummed you guys didn't talk about the stabilization or the video features.
Great video. Is the VIDEO ZOOM any BETTER than the FZ1000?
I like this camera as a second body for video.
Jordan - it looked a bit bumpy for a change. Not as smooth as I'm used to at points. Testing a new gimbal or steadycam set up?
Please help 😅 Would the 80d be a good enough camera and how is it compared to the 7d and the 5d on the image quality. I saw your review of it and I got excited about getting it because the 5d is not good with telephoto lenses and the 7dii doesn't have a practical screen. Thanks 😃
Guys, nice vid! I remember Jordan talking about limited dynamic range - any further thoughts on that?
Log recording helps dynamic range dramatically, but really, really needs to be overexposed.
Jordan @ TCSTV
How about the 5 axis stabilizer ? This is a very important advantage and I think many of us are curious about practical usability...
I didn't realize it could output 10bit 4:2:2. thanks for the review. Glad I didn't pull the trigger on the RX10. I have a Canon 70D for stills and some video but am looking at getting something like this for travel video.
Thorough and informative as always. Please tell me who put tape on your jacket? And please that it wasn't for your lavalier cable. :P
trevorpinnocky The zipper was for what ever reason on this shoot making crazy noise. we did a quick fix.
CHRIS@TCSTV
It's always something on a shoot. :)
Chris what do you and Jordan think about the FZ300?
That camera ticks a lot of boxes for everybody. And I think it's a very underraded.
Any reason you haven't done a review on that? I would love to hear your take on that.
trevorpinnocky so noisy... Worse than the fz200.
awesome review. I've been considering getting one of these, I rent the GH4 alot and this def helped me. Thanks.
What is the difference in image stabilization between RX10iii and FZ2500?
Just one question:
Will you do also a LX10/LX15 review?
I'm about to buy a G7X m2, but I wanted to understand which one suits best for me!
Anyway great video, great review, you always give a complete overview on every camera! Unbeatable!
evvivaDio you want 4k? Then lx10
Hello chris how can you compare this to Canon 80D?
Hi Chris, a question to help me make up my mind between the Sony and Panasonic, how is the IQ of still images? From samples I saw on the internet, the Sony seems has more pop and contrast, then there is no a lot of photos sample of the Panasonic available on the net, so rely on your input, thanks, Shaun.
Very good comparative and test, thanks ! This video was filmed with wich camera please ?
This was shot on the Sony FS5.
Jordan @ TCSTV
Any idea?
I'm so looking forward to the "The Best and Worst from 2016" video!!! Don't get too drunk though ;D Stay cool!
Nick R. You have to buy V-log like in the GH4
Nick R. Cine D is included but is not really a proper log file. You do have to pay extra for vlog but its worth it.
CHRIS@TCSTV
I have a FZ1000 must say I don't do much video with it, not sure if I can justify paying £1100 for the FZ2000 (uk) + £100 for V-Log yet. Thanks for your answers.
***** Yeah, it might not be worth because the main upgrades are the V-log possibility and the built-in ND. I think it also has some new 4K feats, better IS, longer focal length, better EVF and the stationary lens, which as Chris mentioned, it allows you to put in a gimbal and not worry about the lens moving back and forward. If any of this is not a must have for you then the update might not be worth it.
0:46 that was a smart trick eye shot
Can you review the new FZ1000 ii please and maybe compare it with this Camera
Why do you have a piece of tape on your jacket's zipper head? Great review, thank you!
You didnt spend much time comparing menu layout and access in the FZ versus the RX. Ive had both in earlier models and found the Panasonic menus more intuitive and easy, the Sony tended to bury important settings and logic wasn't as smooth. Not having seen the FZ2500 any comments on this?
How many FPS can be externally registered? It depends by the Camera or the recorder? (im going to buy the atomos ninja flame)
thanks for share , between this panasonic and rx10 iv what do you choose? i dont care video. Ty
