Thank you for highlighting the great Vionnet! Hard to overstate her influence on modern formal fashion. Her influence can still be seen on red carpets everywhere. She and Claire McCardell are two of my favorite 20th century designers. They created for women's bodies and women's lives.
It’s crazy how ahead of her time Vionnet was - Galliano and Balenciaga and many others were inspired by her. Like Van Gogh I think we will start to truly understand her work centuries later
Thats true! Part of the process was pre-sagging the fabric. Vionnet would hang it up for several days and let the bias "do its job" (sagging) before cutting the pattern pieces. I hope to see an original dress one day in real life and see how this method has held up over the last century.

I’ve not even heard of Mm Vionnet! How wonderful you’ve shared with us. These style takeaways we can apply to life, not just clothes. Thank you.
She’s a huge inspiration to me - thanks for tuning in :)
I mean yes bias is beautiful but it will eventually sag. A short term solution.
