The newer harvest moons are created by Natsume (and they suck) the original “harvest moon” from japan had to change their name in America because of Natsume. Now all the new ones are called Story of Seasons! Its super confusing.
Story of Seasons retains the spirit of the Harvest Moon of our childhood, and that's why I love it. The quality, the feel, everything. The series that possess the Harvest Moon right now is nothing but a husk feeding off the reputation built by the real Harvest Moon. It's really too bad regarding the name, but it can't be helped since HM's true name in JP is Bokujō Monogatari.
I love Stardew Valley so much, and have been feeling a little bored with it lately because of my 300+ hours spent on it, I feel like I have done everything. This helps a lot, thank you! Now I have more games that I can check out~
Can’t recommend my time at Portia enough. After 150 hours, I “finished” the game and I can’t wait for more. Highly recommend and I cannot believe it’s not more popular
What I like about this selection of farming games other than the quality is that you can grab plenty of farming goodness and not break the bank. Nice one!
Rune Factory 5 was just officially announced. Also, they're bringing Rune Factory 4 to the Switch. Normally I don't pre-order games, but I want to play RF5 on day 1. I'll probably also buy RF4 again because I already know I love that game. Played the crap out of it on the 3ds.
I’m so glad you included my time at Portia. It’s an amazing game. A proper harvest moon game would be amazing on switch and I don’t mean one like that ‘harvest moon’ game.... rubbish
Gotta go with Graveyard Keeper! 👍👌✌ They followed the mold and broke it at the same time. Lots of tasks and variety, great quests, story, progress pace and humor.
Thank you for showing us this video with farm games. They gave me the Stardew Valley a while ago, but since I have an exam in college, I have not touched it yet.
People tend to compare Portia to Stardew Valley but really they're nothing alike. If it's farming you're after, Portia is a poor choice IMO. What is it about? Well, it's a workshop management game where you build tools, machinery and structures and sell most of them for profit. You will spend a great deal of time doing commissions as well, many of which come with a time stamp attached to them. Although Portia touches some aspects of agriculture and animal husbandry, that doesn't come until later and it is more of a side-gig meant to aid your other tasks. If I were to draw a comparison I'd say this game is more like Animal Crossing... if you've heard of it.
Need to note the word "Similar", not same. You can compare things to one another easily if they have anything in common. I mean, Graveyard Keeper's focus certainly isn't farming. It's all about making money in any way you feel fit within the game's theme (church sermons, dealing with the dead, trade).
I look at the genre not as "farming sims" but as "Town Life Sims", Any game where it mixes getting to know the people of a town along with you making a place for yourself in that community is welcome in the genre and they all have the same overall feel. Hell Graveyard keeper isn't a "farming" game your purpose is right in the title, still enjoy it.
Well they are simulations. It would certainly be a more accurate genre to list them under than a game name: game title-like. "game title-like" genre listing is a disservice to both games.
It's bad that playing My time at Portia made me lose interest with the other 'similar' games. I find it way superior to stardew valley. It deserves a 'My Time at' series.
Portia...even I play it since almost beginning and I sometimes get bored, I return after few months and start again and find it completely new and full of new content :D ...btw dog "Lucy" in Staxel made me laugh like ...a lot
I'm definitely going to give Portia a try. But I'm seriously addicted to Rimworld right now and I can't put it down (er, well - log out) for any other game, even one that looks pretty sweet as Portia, just yet.
I'm with Twincobra13, I love Rimworld. It's not quite in the exact same genre, but it has a lot of the same appeal I think. Since a lot of fans of farming games like management style games, I have found a lot of those who like Stardew Valley and it's type also like Rimworld. So check it out if you haven't. Of the list you shared, I was already saving up for Graveyard Keeper, and I had heard of Portia but was unsure about it. After seeing this, and hearing the positive feedback of others, I do want to play it very much now.
I like Slime Rancher, I'm kinda surprised you didn't mention it. It's not exactly like Stardew Valley but you do run a ranch and have to make a profit, and explore the map, help other ranchers etc.
Some other games that are somewhat similar to Stardew Valley are Deiland, Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles and Portal Knights! ( All Available on Steam )
I ended up enjoying Graveyard Keeper even more than Stardew Valley. Just when you think you're getting somewhere it throws more and more tasks at you. That game is deep!
Since Stardew Valley is now on Android, he should do a video like this for Android games similar to Stardew Valley. That be cool. Always nice to find alternatives that are playable on the go that are worth it
It´s pity, that for players, who watch this game since beginning, Stardew valley do not have much to offer after months of playing now when finally finished with multiplayer....same for me with Subnautica...
the blessing and curse of indie game culture! I have so many games I got very early on that already had the basic shell of the game including an end/ending sequence where I finished the content available then had the 1.0 offer more content and DLC do the same later but there is no point unless you wipe your save file and your long term memory! Moonlighter is another game like this for me

My Time at Portia seems like a great game. I've been eying this game for a while now not wanting to buy it yet because I've a backlog of games that I haven't finished yet. I don't like the other games on this list not because they are bad games but because they remind me too much of Stardew Valley. I mean, I like something similar to SV but I want a different experience and not a clone. My Time at Portia was obviously inspired by SV but the visuals and gameplay mechanics feels like you're playing a different game.
edwin11373 My Time at Portia is fabulous! I love it so much! It's the first early access game I've ever purchased and I am NOT disappointed. Actually, the main focus is on gathering material and crafting items for the townsfolk and yourself. The progression is really nice. I've owned it for months and am continuously thrilled when I see new updates. I would highly recommend it. Only one thing, though. There are 3 different possible voices for you if you play as a male but only one so far if you play as a female. If they add more female protagonist voices in later and you're playing as a female but like a new voice better you're SOL. Not a big thing, but I'm a bit voice picky.
A lot of these games I skip because I do not like their artstyle. Fantasy farming, worlds dawn, and gleaner heights all looks dull, even duller than graveyard keeper that supposedly 'dark themed'. Bought portia and doesn't regret it, it is polished except for the events. Graveyard keeper, still not try it. While staxel, ,tried staxel, kind of love it, but also it seems tedious and unpolished. I will wait for more polishes.
All good information, I will add one note though. If you decide to buy an E.A. game on console, be aware that they are out of date with the PC variants and take FOREVER to get updated... (I'm looking at you, Graveyard Keeper...)
Sharky, it would be great if you would do a similar list for games available for Android. I play on my tablet and can't find anything that seems anywhere close to SDV.
Sigh... I was excited to find some new games, turned out I already know 4 out of them AND own them aswell haha! Back to Stardew for the time being it is ;D
The one thing I really cant stand about My Time in Portia is the music, its like some dreadful elevator muzac. Such a shame as the music in a game can really add atmosphere. I have just played the demo version and am considering buying the full game but I’m not sure, are there mods ?
The developer mentioned he was going to add an expansion to the game, he won't say much exactly but it sounds like he's going to add more good stuff. Also he is recoding the entire game into the newest version of the Game Maker engine so it will run MUCH better! Won't be too long I hope, maybe in spring? Summer? Who knows but he is working extensively on it. So be on the look out!
@@l1z4rdbr34th90 Just bought it. Playin for a while now. It is a very basic game. At least so far. If it wasn't for the looming dread vibe, it would be boring imo. just go with my time at portia. in my opinion that is the best game right after stardew valley. brought it on steam and never regret it buying at full price.. but the graphic can a little bit hard for those with potato spec if they turn up the grass setting
Lol for any of y'all looking for something like Stardew Valley try some of the GameCube Harvest Moon games or the Wii ones. They're great. And have alot of stuff to do.
Are they any other games like this but that are not farming games? Games that you can have a house, friends and spend time without getting bored? Games that are actually fun..
i bought My Time in Portia for a pretty cheap price but apparantly I cant play it in my laptop most probably due to its system requirements i'M already using hp i3 i hope you can include in your video if the games has a high system requirement or not. nothing extensive but a simple reminder.. but over all love your game reviews I'm also a big fan of farming simulation game.

just go with my time at portia. in my opinion that is the best game right after stardew valley. brought it on steam and never regret it buying at full price.. but the graphic can a little bit hard for those with potato spec if they turn up the grass setting
Don't forget "Garden Paws" now out on Steam!
Is this available to android
Any of these on ps4?
I hope My Time at Portia will be soon available for Nintendo Switch ^_^

Lol for any of y'all looking for something like Stardew Valley try some of the GameCube Harvest Moon games or the Wii ones. They're great. And have alot of stuff to do.
i think i prefer graveyard keeper out of them.
Are they any other games like this but that are not farming games? Games that you can have a house, friends and spend time without getting bored? Games that are actually fun..
