    Try 1 open stock museum aquarelle, the best watercolour pencil and it fully dissolves

    The boku undo blue sumi stick is an ink stick. You’ll need an ink stone to grind the ink stick on! Make sure to dry it off well after using, if you let the ink sticks stay damp, it ruins the binder and causes the ink stick to crack!

    • @ghoulchan7525
      @ghoulchan7525 2 роки тому

      Mine tends to crack even if i dry it well. I think the texture of the ink stick i use just likes to trap a bit of water.. oh well it still works fine.

    • @bloody0thorn
      @bloody0thorn 2 роки тому

      @@ghoulchan7525 it may be that you live in a very dry environment! Ink sticks can also get too dry, that leads to cracking too. They’re pretty fragile, but if taken care of properly last decades if not centuries.
      Let them spend as little time in contact with water as possible, as soon as you grind your ink, dry the ink stick off with a paper towel, set aside (outside the box) for a few minutes to keep drying
      Edit: if you’re environment is too dry: you can put a small strip of paper towel inside the box with a few drops of water (add more every few weeks)

    I actually just use one blue watercolour pencil for my sketching. It works well, but I would recommend sketching after applying your sky wash as that will probably obliterate all your watercolour pencil marks.

    for the sumi stick you would be best getting a suzuri that you wet and rub the sumi ink into, if you like those brushes look up rake brush which do a similar job, you have some nice toys to play with, happy painting

    Those “tailor’s” paints are interesting. My box of multicolored tailors chalks is one of my favorite sewing supplies. Very curious about the design process behind them, but I imagine that’s a company secret.

    I've been completely infatuated with those two ArtGraf things since I saw them the first time. I think it was a video of Teoh's years ago.
    I can't defend to buy them as it is, but hopefully some day I have enough money in my art budget to treat myself to them! 😍

    Did you try whether the artgarf primaries are really primaries? For my Eyes and on my device the red looks very warm and not like true maganta, so you might get moody purple with the blue, which also looks a little bit to warm. I flirt with this Set a long time, but I doubt that these 3 colours build a good cotorwheel. Did you try? I trust you when it comes to color wheels.

      I'm not the author, but I bought the same primary set plus sepia. The magenta is a bit warmer, yes, it makes purple with blue, and all three do a nice grey when mixed together. Sepia has a gentle blackish granulation.
      They are really staining, I tried layering on Canson Montval cellulose (not the color keeping type at all) and the margins of first layers are seen even after 5-6th layer. They dry (and stain) quite fast.
      I also noticed one thing regarding the chalk size. The primaries in the set weight 16-18 g, but the sepia (bought as a separate chalk) weights 25 g! That's quite a difference in my opinion. That may be a random case or the chalks in sets may be smaller by design. The cork penal is cool, large and holds together quite nice, but I think that I will try seprate chalks next time just to compare.

    Your pronunciation of “Kuretake” made me so happy. 😌☺️
    For the sumi ink block (the oval), you could get an ink stone and gently grind out the block. They’re made to be super compact so they don’t get brittle and break ^^
    Beautiful haul. 🙌

    Interesting to see that Sumi style stick - ive not seen or heard of that particular one before (heard of Sumi) but not those actuel sticks, they look fun.
    Bamboo pens are so good for texture effect and sketchy feel
    I call those brushes fork brushes 😄 lovely paintings you created with it.

    So interesting! Graphite powder wash (with denatured alcohol) has been an illustrator's "secret sauce" for a long time, so it's nice to see a version that's more accessible to artists everywhere! We've also noticed that there is a difference in solubility with ink sticks- it may be related to a protein binder (if that's what it contains, just guessing), which is not as easily activated as something like gum arabic or dextrin. Nice!

      Ink sticks are designed to be used with a grinding stone, not just lifted with a brush. When ground They produce deep vibrant colour.

    Would you know if the Kuretake Graphite Colors are Lightfast? I just bought a set on Amazon and began to wonder if they are because there is no pigment information and the box is totally in Japanese, no other language in sight! I guess I can also do my own tests as well. Just curious if you know.

    That’s how you did them! My Husband and I were saying “how can she so paint so many lines?” This one brought back memories of your work several years ago, the rainbow patterns, swatching all the colors of one brand as its own thin strip? I’m going to add things to my Jackson’s basket now, lol. Thanks for the video! 🦩🌺

    You Got Me with your new art supplies! I can't resist, I'll have to buy some too. I have the Caran D"Ache w/c pencils which I like and I have to thank you for reminding me to use them : ) I have found, though, you can erase pencil that is under many watercolor washes, except for most yellows (why, I don't know). And I love your book of paintings, very exciting. Thank you!

    I love knowing what you are playing with. I purchased open stock Caran d'Ache WC pencils for the same reason. Art creations have slowed down for me because I have Long Haul Covid. I would love to see traditional Japanese art on your channel, if you like to do it.

    Thank you for showing us some of your scrapbook, that was a nice surprise. I've tried many watercolor pencils, and none can hold a candle to Faber-Castell ability to instantly dissolve like butter dropped in a hot pan.

    I am always up for trying new gansai style watercolours, haven’t been able to find a source for this set yet. The oval ink sticks are intriguing, and many thanks for reminding me of bamboo pens, I had one I loved years ago that somehow vanished and I had forgotten how much I loved the immediacy of the mark making. Nice haul. Thanks.

    If you like these kuretake colors, consider the boku-undo sumi-e ink set (sold by Choosing Keeping in the UK) that in my opinion are superior to Kuretake's. They have three interesting lines, one with muted colors, and one with super muted ones, like these kuretake, and one with muted pastels (I'd get all three). The reason why I like better the sumi-e ones is because they don't have graphite in them like the kuretake ones, and so they don't smudge on the paper after you close your sketchbook.
