You should test Saturn with the new Robert Broglia's Saturn emu that uses mednafen under the hood. Its more taxing on low end hardware but less glitchy than Yaba.
It's great but still needs a little work. All his apps are 🔥.
I third this. One of my favorite Saturn games is "Overdrivin' GT-R". It's a Japanese market port of the original Need For Speed, with a flock of Nissans replacing the original roster of cars. It also has full Sega 3D Pad support, which means it's the only console version of the original NFS to have analog inputs for throttle, braking, and steering. Anyways, Yaba Sanshiro can't display the steering wheel when in cockpit view for this or NFS. It's just a blank spot. Robert Broglia's Saturn emulator absolutely can though. It was worth the $5 just for that.

If they had the price around the same as the Odin 2 Pro or Max then I would absolutely get one.

China has a bigger market than the west and consoles are very rare in China as they're mostly banned. Not just China. Parents will rather buy their kids pc. BTW these handhelds tend to be cheaper by a few hundred dollars in Asia.
@slapndbass this is also why android in the eastern part of the world has a bunch of amazing games the never come this way. Mobile is a much more sustainable platform for gamers there

hey man, i know this device is still an engineering sample but, do you happen to try running some benchmarking apps like Geekbench, 3dmark, and antutu I'm just wondering what numbers can this processor do compared to the SD 8Gen3 with proper cooling and all that performance shinnanigans

We need to see switch emulation. If this can run totk and smo at full speed I'm getting it for sure.
I want to see how it competes against the Odin 2 Pro in terms of price. It's insane that we're seeing such a renaissance in Android handhelds, but that's the right move since handheld PCs are so goshdarn expensive for enthusiasts.
And the battery consumption and software experience (W11 is definitely not meant for small screens) are way worse on these handheld PCs than on Android handhelds.
It will take some time until a handheld PC for gaming check all the boxes for me, for now I'll stay with my Odin 2 Max.

It probably won’t be. Hardware isn’t the limiting factor anymore, it’s the software development in Android that’s the gating item. Anything this can emulate, so can the Odin 2.
Makes me long for the Snail MOQI i7S. Such a shame they don't do anymore android gaming smartphones with integrated controls.

Switch emulation is gonna be really interesting
it should be able to do it, i know the phones with the same chips can do it and less powerful devices can definitely run a few games
pricing will definitely make or break this, seriously, AYN themselves have better products for the 400+ range and the odin 2 for 300 so its either they go 325 or 349 at most, anything above is windows handheld territory I don't care how good the chip is its still restricted to being an android as well as it being dependent on how good emulators are optimized in the future

Only thing it's missing is a high refresh rate... I noticed nobody is mentioning it's only 60hz. My razer phone 2 from 2018 has 120hz 1440p....

I think 120 would allow black frame insertion / backlight strobing when playing at 60 fps

How is the comfort in the hands for long play sessions? I just got the RP4Pro and wonder how this compares in size and fit in the hands. While I like the Odin, I happen to prefer slightly smaller devices.

Looks like a really premium device. Apparently there will be an ergonomic back cover for it. Not shire if it is aby the supplier or a Third Party. Love the power but it is not really pocketable enough to Justify its "flatness". Price is also a bit expensive.
how fast is it relative to 8 Gen 3? Both CPU and GPU? I suspect CPU might be faster because of 8 P-cores but GPU is not very obvious because of significantly higher clock speed but I am not sure about the architecture
It's a snapdragon 8 gen 2 with increased tdp and gpu clock basically, so sd 8 gen 3 is still faster

If this compares similarly to a Odin 2 which I cannot recall if it does, but if it does then it should be priced similarly. Now as far as size, resolution and looks of this device I believe it does well with all of those things. Unfortunately, there is a ton of competition when it comes to emulation.

Why would this be similarly priced to the Odin 2? This is newer, more powerful, and made of more "premium" materials. The base model for this won't cost less than $400 USD
Edit. Just found out the pocket air, which is the predecessor to this and very similar to the Odin 2 in terms of build quality, has an msrp of $520 USD... This thing is going to start at $600+. My money is on $700 for the base model
why should it be similarly priced? this is higher end, faster, more portable, higher res screen....like use your brain here.
Even if it were using the same chip as the odin 2 ( it doesnt). The build more than justifies the bump in price.
Why it be worth 400 dollars though, i was under the impression thay the odin pro 2 did all the same things granted perhaps not as flawlessly. If that is wrong then no worries i am just saying with the plethra of gaming handhelds i would not be willing to pay over 300 dollars for this unless it really out performs those older that are similarly priced. I do not care about android gaming. And emulation being what is i was under the impression ps2 and game cube emulation enjoyable on the odin pro 2? Is that not accurate?( sorry i do not own the odin pro 2 so am not sure if that the case as i was led to believe)
Edit: if it can emulate ps2 and game cube well in their collection of games i believe 300 dollars is worthwhile prive for such a device. I think 400 would be bit greedy, but then again i do not care about android gaming so that is something to consider.

First and foremost, this device is more capable than the Odin 2. It's a generation newer and considerably more powerful.
It's also made to the same expectations as a flagship phone, which the Odin 2 is not. The Odin 2 is plastic and inexpensive where this device is glass and metal.
The older version of this, from the same company, is by all accounts very similar to the Odin 2. Similar enough performance and identical build quality and materials. And it costs $200 more than the Odin 2.

Take RGB off, make joystick caps concave, make sure joysticks have enough space between face buttons so thumbs don't smack against both at same time.

My issue with android handhelds has been the OS's handling of roms on an SD card. Some emulators will allow access to sd cards, while others won't. You have to install them in a specific folder on the internal storage. It's a major annoyance. Especially if you have a pre-configured sd card with everything on it.
With the prices of these Android handhelds, it makes more sense to buy a steamdeck or some variation of a portable windows gaming device.

suggesting a steam deck makes no sense at all. This is an arm based device with battery life that is in another universe than the steamdeck, not to mention this is pocketable and a lot of emulators run better on android than steamos so im still wondering why you would suggest that

To be honest this is definitely the best looking handheld aesthetically. Ngl it makes me wanna buy it each time I look at it, The only thing I wanna know is the battery life though. Don't care about the price but if the battery life is medicore then no thank you.

Low-end Switch? I think it'd do it fine, especially with the recent updates to both Yuzu and Ryujinx. My Note 20 Ultra can almost run BDSP stably. Here's hoping! 💚

It says $299 for a preorder which is around £240. With shipping and Vat, it would probably be around £275 maybe less. So it's definitely a steal for that much. Still costs much less and is much smaller than a Steam Deck and likely the upcoming Switch 2 which will cost over 300 Plus.
I have been discussing the handheld market with some like minded enthusiasts. Some hate android and prefer custom Linux. I have been emulating on android phones and have had one or two emulation devices in the past (like RP2 & 2+).
My MAIN issue holding me back from a NICE premium android device is BOTH cost and form factor.
Besides power and battery life, size is the most important factor. Right now I go by this train of thought:
It needs to fit comfortably in my pocket. If it cannot fit comfortably in my pocket it needs a bag. If it needs a bag? I could just use my steam deck.
In general, this has resulted in me primarily using two devices: Miyoo Mini & Steam Deck.
Until someone makes a replacement for the RG405m handheld that combines portability with power I will probably stick to Miyoo + Steam deck combo for my portable gaming.
Clamshells COULD be an option, but I do not like the sliders on the Retroid Pocket Flip and the New AyaNeo Flip DS is great but both a bit too big and also VERY expensive (to be fair it is a full on 7840U).

i think $300 is a reasonable price and a game i have trouble with to see if you have any luck running smoothly is Soul Calibur 3 for the PS2

Anything 20-30 dollars over the price of the Odin 2 would make this a no-go in my opinion. Anyway, knowing Ayaneo, probably it's going to be priced higher than that.

imagine thinking a 1440p screen is only worth 20 to 30 dollars more than a 1080p display. Not to mention this is far more portable than the odin 2. XD
AyaNeo Pocket S looks really beautiful and powerful handheld but if it's just an Android handheld, i'm not gonna buy it. I'm more interested of AyaNeo Slide and Flip DS defienitily Flip DS. Emulation on AyaNeo looks and works surprisilly good wow. 😊😮

@@Emuland69 thank you, I've been interested of a pc handhelds ober 3 years since 2021 and Steam Deck but I still don't have any pc handhelds. I'm interested of AyaNeo, Onexplayer, Asus Rog Ally, Lenovo Legion Go and Steam Deck Oled. Problems are prices of those handhelds. But i'm glad to have a Nintendo Switch.

Odin 2 so far seems to have better battery life and thermals, CPU performance is the same, pretty much what this can do, the odin 2 can also do.

Considering that this thing is actively cooled , aftermarket roms and kernals could probably push this thing a further 30-40% in performance . Most android devices today are limited by thermals and are nit hitting the full performance ceiling of the SOC . This was evident when youtuber Geekerwan took a snapdragon 855 powered phone and turned it into a gaming handheld by modding it ,adding a cooling fan and pushing the clockspeeds of the cpu/gpu wayyyyyy up , and it managed to outperform even a snapdragon 8 gen 1 device playing genshin imoact even though the 855 is several generations behind !!
Also mobox is comming along great and you can now even tun gta 5 on it at 30+fps . I might get rid of my 7840U handheld and get this ayaneo if its priced right

It looks good but it will need a grip for ergonomics, I always look at reviewers thumbs whilst playing PS2 dual stick games, It doesn't look good.
I know pocketable is a concern but I personally prefer good ergonomics.
Price? I'd go £500 Max, for 1 Gig storage, 16gb ram.
