Dear sweet child, the squid attacking the "steam punk" sub is actually a scene lifted from the 1954 Disney movie interpretation of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Early Cinemascope production that won some Oscars I believe, including special effects, which kinda makes your assumption true in that it is generally recognized by many as a foundational inspiration for the steam punk ethic. Being older than dirt, I grew up on such stuff, so the recognition was immediate. Cool old James Mason & Kirk Douglas flic if you want something to watch while waiting on a print. :)

I can't wait to get mine up and running again. The moved didn't go well, so it's going to take a couple weeks to be fully up and running again. I have a TON of space now, so I'm very much looking forward to new projects. As for leveling, I think someone else pointed out that it's best to just level it with the bin in place, and to not use any paper at all. Just the FEP film allows you to actually level it exactly as needed.

Saturn 2 is my first resin printer, I was having the same leveling issues as you and was ready to send it back when I found out the stupid cardboard supplied for leveling was too thick. I sent feedback to Elegoo asking them to send an email to every one who bough this printer. Basic customer service in my opinion...

I am a little skepticle about these carbon air filters. Carbon filters work. But how long do they last? I can tell you that masks that you buy for painting in paint booth only have a use time of 8 eight hours. When you wear a carbon mask you know it's workng as you can't smell any paint. Once you start smelling paint, the carbon filter must be replaced. So when people say they smell the resin. Then it sounds like ther carbon filter is not working. And long term damage to you could be bad. Just a warning. I wish more youtubers would talk about this. And more testing needs to be done. I like resin printing, this is really important.

Regarding carbon & VOC's: I was previously poisoned by said same, to a pretty serious degree, where I lost my sense of smell, vision degraded to requiring tri-focals, lost peripheral nerve function to where I had no sense of grip strength or feeling in my feet, developed tinnitus & vertigo thanks to more nerve damage in my ears, to say nothing of the impact on my respiratory system. Some recovery, but to this day (10 years later) I still can't climb a ladder or travel w/o serious motion sickness, along w/ other sundry stuff. I can no longer smell things like formaldehyde and acetone, et al, but it takes but a whiff to make me sick all over again. The reason; being a manly man I never bothered w/ PPE's while consulting for an exhibit fabricating company where solvent printing, welding, and all sorts of random VOCs routinely clouded the huge shop air, even with general ventilation & 24' ceiling. Okay, so that's where I'm coming from.
The problem w/ carbon/charcoal is that it doesn't have a gauge to tell you when it can't absorb anymore. Normally, as in when wearing an organic filter mask, you'll be topped off 'cuz you'll begin to smell or taste the VOC once the carbon is saturated. Problem there is that the more or longer that you're subjected to those fumes, the less likely you are to notice them. That is until you reach your body's max tolerance level, which is where I was. Then your sensory nerves begin to fail, and your CNS in general becomes overwhelmed. That point is different for all of us. Mine took years, but then one day my body just said nope, not gonna take anymore.
So PLEASE, PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE - read the MSDS, install a fume exhaust system AND some sort of makeup air supply to help it breath easier. Those forty little USB blocks are nothing more than a cute reminder that you need to address your air quality, and that's not negotiable.

You were asking what resins people are printing with. I usually just print with whatever I find on sale on Amazon. Which means I have a BUNCH of different brands. I just kinda mix them together and see what happens. I don't know if I'm just lucky, but 90% of the time, my prints come out great... regardless of brand, color, age. With a good shake/stir, and a 70+ degree fahrenheit ambient temp, they just work.

I just ordered the New Saturn 2 resin printer seen here. This be the 1st one I had... I already have 4 FDM printers and had for some time wished to have a big high detail resin printer!
I ordered it from Elegoo site direct because I seen here in the UK that the Saturn 2 on Amazon UK and Ebay UK are still pricey even though it now is Black Friday event this week.
I found that what with Black Friday sales on Elegoo themselves are taking off another $50 on top of a 6% off as well. So here in UK money it works out at only £438.00p which is so much cheaper than Amazon or ebay prices. The email states I get it around 1st December 2022 as it coming from a UK site.. I ordered some rubber mats and tools and a re-usable washable carbon face mask.
I looked at the resins ( water washable ) But most at this time are pricey as heck here. I wait until later one and get the resins when I see a good value one?
Thanks for the review I found it a great help. 😉

Do you still see layer lines in smooth areas of your smaller prints, I own a Saturn and was thinking of upgrading because I like the build size or get a phrozen mini 8k, I am printing faces, miniature heads and characters at about half an inch in size, the Saturn does okay at this but it still struggles at getting something smooth and at that size it’s hard to sand the model with destroying it, I also print larger things as well figure bodies and creatures characters that have a lot of smooth surfaces and would like it if I could have a printer that would not require as much post processing. The smaller models obviously would do fine on the smaller 8k printer but the larger models well I wouldn’t be able to fit as much and could cause having to run 2 or even 3 print jobs to get the same results with the 7-12 in figures, however I could still print things like heads and arms with smooth skin areas on a smaller printer.
Anyways what are your thoughts, it’s hard to gauge the look of a print from videos. Also I airbrush allot of my prints and if you have large smooth areas that are not perfectly smooth it shows up quickly. Thanks for the video it was really well done.

@@TheModelGuy I would have to know a bit more, what exactly do you mean by weird lines? if you mean layer lines there isn't anything you can do but try an orientation that reduces them, it depends on your printer however you can figure it out by dividing your layer height and your printer resolution to get an optimal angle there are videos on UA-cam that explain finding your printers best print angle for instance a Saturn at 5um is 45 degrees

I've been using it constantly for about a year now with only a handful of failed prints - all due to improper supports or bad orientation of the model. I've only had to level the build plate about three times in the last year. Mostly due to knocking it out of alignment while removing stubborn prints from the build plate.

I just went down the 3D printer rabbit hole last night for the very first time and decided on resin/SLA and the Saturn 2. The Saturn 2 _is_ 8K, the Saturn and Saturn S are 4K. While curing will be necessary, I don't know that a curing _station_ is necessary, it depends on your budget and how hands on you're unwilling to be with the curing. I thought Elegoo's curing stations seemed quite handy, they were in my budget, so I sprung for those too. They arrive tomorrow, I'll check back and let you know what I think.
