Such a fantastic album! I think it's a dead tie between this one and Reclaimer, my favourite switches depending on my mood. Since you asked, Primordial is also about Halo. Based on the lyrics and the video of their latest song they might be returning to that theme, super excited for their next album!
Underneath the Sullen Moon probably has my favorite solo of the album, and Oudenophobia is probably my favorite song. Actually my favorite Shadow of Intent songs.
One of my favorite albums of all time literally, when I first listened to this I liked it but I didn't care much for it then literally every time I listened to the album afterwards I loved it more and more after every listen.
The main lead theme for dirge was written for feel the same by currents on let the devil in, fun fact. Chris has a very unique style, though uses a lot of very similar melodies; you’ll find some parts of solos used on reclaimer spread across the other albums.
You mentioned wanting to hear our interpretations of the album song by song, so here's mine! Prepare for a wall of text lol. Melancholy: Essentially an overview of the album's story, it details how the story focuses on one man but also describes the fate of Humanity as a whole. It's primarily written in the past tense, having already occurred. Gravesinger: Written from the perspective of the deity that causes the events of the story, the entity is boasting about it's own power as it condemns everyone to die. Barren and Breathless Macrocosm: Written from the perspective of the deity again, but now it commences the apocalypse. Most of the lyrics are talking about how everyone dies via beheading themselves and eachother, as they try and fail to withstand the entity's influence. Underneath a Sullen Moon: Written from the perspective of the protagonist, on the night that he hangs himself; based on the tone of the lyrics I think he does it of his own free will, either because of unhappiness or because he sees what's happening to everyone and wants to go out in his own way. Which one of those things caused him to do it is left ambiguous, but I think it's the former rather than the latter. Oudenophobia: Right after he hangs himself, he awakens in an unfamiliar landscape and realises that he isn't dead. At first he thinks he's in Heaven, but quickly begins to believe that he's in Hell and that he's utterly alone in this place. My interpretation of why this happens is that he died by his own hand at the exact moment that the deity ended the world, which somehow caused him to escape the world's destruction; it's possible that the deity resurrected him as punishment for defying it's will. At the end of the song he realises that he's not in the afterlife and that there's a higher power that caused the cataclysm. Embracing Nocturnal Damnation: The protagonist laments his situation, wondering why he has been chosen to suffer alone. The song also describes people lining up for death and the deity eating them, but I think this is likely a vision that he's being shown. Dirge of the Void: The deity haunts him with the voices of everyone who died, tormenting him until it finally reveals itself as a benevolent goddess. It persuades him to worship it and grants him a temporary reprieve from his loneliness while removing him from the empty world, but he quickly realises that it's an invasive force that will consume him like it did everyone else. Cthonic Odyssey: This song talks about how he was initially deceived into worshipping the deity with words of encouragement and grandeur, but he then discovers it's true intentions and panics when he realises what's coming next. After he realises that it isn't his saviour, it tortures him physically before throwing him back into solitude on the destroyed planet; this consumes the last vestiges of hope and leaves him a hollow shell of a man. Malediction: He emerges from the void that he was previously brought into, having been sent back to roam the desolate Earth alone in a state of perpetual despair and loneliness. He now knows that he has been made immortal as a punishment for his suicide, leaving him incapable of doing it again and trapping him in a meaningless existence from which there is no escape.
I think this album is about some kind of horror genre, I forgot which one though. Oudenophobia (5th track) talks about this kind of purgatory. "Dark surrounding me, black is all I see, this won't contain me. Is this just a dream, I can't feel a thing, this dark surrounds me". And the last lyrics in Malediction, "time withers, the sun extinguished, and yet still, I remain. The age of man passes, my progress, struggles, and suffering, a waste." That kind of thing. I'm not going to pretend like I know the complete meaning of this album, but that's kind of the basis of it. You can see it in a lot of the Lyrics. Also, anyone else, corrent me on parts I am wrong in.
When i remember correctly, Melancholy(The album not the song) is about a demon goddess that forced humans and the protagonist into a mass suicide. From there on the protagonist finds himself in the "netherworld"(Oudenophobia) from wich he sees that the Gods are evil and that he has to end this suffering somehow. He then fights against the demon goddess(Dirge of the void) and then closes the "portal" between the world of the living and the world of the dead, saving humanity from this suffering but trapping him inside for all of eternity. The last lines of malediction "Time Withers/The sun extinguished/And yet still I remain/ the age of man passes" describe how he is trapped in the afterlife "hell" for eternity and cant do anything against it. This is probably not 100% accurate because i dont remember every detail of it but i think thats what the album is roughly about and i love the concept of it. each song tells you the next part of the story from a perspective wich makes this album an 12/10 for me :D
I'm an album guy. I dont like listening to playlists. When I listen to an artist I listen to ONE artist. If I cant enjoy a whole album, I cant be a fan.
You hadn't heard this before? One of the best deathcore albums I've ever heard
Best album ever in general 🤘
Damn, I love this album so much. RIP Trevor Strnad
One of the best albums of all time! Can't believe you haven't heard this before.

my favorite album of all time, not even close. every track is a certified banger!

the single version of Sullen Moon from 2 years before the album sounds better imo, it is different.
@@evangalinsky2499 I agree too, I like the mix better in the previous one. It has one of my favorite chorus sections of all time tbh.
@@a5hengaming iirc its more than just the mix, some of the drum sections/fills are also slightly different.
