Ganz toll..............Gisela, wie sie leibt und lebt!
much thanks. i saved this clip as a present for my mothers birthday. she saw gisela may concerts in east germany in the 60s.
Lebe wohl, Grande Dame
Love her.
I have heard of Gisela May, but only heard her in one brief selection. Now I have!! Lotte who?????? Definately learned the style from Lotte Lenya, but a much more animated actress and better singer. When the camera moves in for a final closeup just at "Hoop-la" her expression sent shivers up my spine, knowing she was sending men to their deaths, at least in her imagination. Absolutely a brilliant performance. One hundred fifty stars
love Gisela May. Hear her in Seven Deadly Sins and be transpoted
Sounds like "Pirate Jenny" in German.
IT IS.
There are are numerous attempts to interpret this song dramatically, as uploaded to UA-cam, with varying impactual successes.
Judy Collins, in, I believe, her debut audio album or LP recording, nailed this in audio only (more's the shame if you can't get to grips with a mental picture-from-sound).
All who followed her, in English translation, with video footage, follow her and fade in her shadow (including the estimable Nina Simone). Because those who take it on are working an audience - pre-or-post video recording.
Judy did this looking at a Neumann mic in a studio vocal booth. Sheesh - close your eyes, people, and listen.
While you're at it, check out (on the same album) her 'edited highlights (gulp)' from The Marad/Sade 'difficult' stage musical.
Always in character, translucent AND opaque. What a voice.
I have listened to that Judy Collins album.
+Alan Batterman Yes, because it´s the original language
Did you study Bresht and Veil they were forst to fly to usa because all communists were put in concentrationcamps. Hitler let fire to thir theater.
Hopla! 02:27
like Domenica!
Good, but no comparison to Nina Simone's definitive version. Look for it here on UA-cam (watch?v=TCcKBc4gwAQ )
No, this is much better than Nina Simones version, because much more original.
