@@MarlaKris I ordered some thin emery boards, for cuticle area perfecting; I also am going to do the stamper for picking up my waterslide decals! I have hated fighting with my tweezers to place my decals right where I want them. Yesterday I tried using gel bonder as a sticky base for foil transfers, and it worked AMAZING.

Hi Marla! I am super duper allergic to ANY and ALL gel....so I strictly use dip liquids. I have a ton of water transfer decals. What do you recommend I use to adhere the decals staying completely away from any gel product? Thanks so much!! LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos!! 😘
Hey girl! There’s a sticky base coat Maniology makes - would be perfect for this! And you can just apply 2 coats of a regular polish top coat over it! 💙
Hi. I’ve been using water decals for quite some time now. I have never used an adhesive before applying the decal…..just applied to clean, dry nail. I have always used one base coat and a dip of clear to finish off. No issues at all.
Did you use straight acetone to trim around the edges ?
Yep! Straight acetone works the best for getting rid of all the excess decal 💞

I love that blue! I use the old fashioned metal nail files for my cuticle area since they are so think and can fit in that area perfectly. I have never used decals, but want to. I probably should have checked first, but can you send the link to those thin files you use? T.I.A.
Sorry, I just checked and ordered the thin files. Do you use the 180 or 100 side?
I was using the metal one for a while but I kept stabbing myself with the pointy end 🤦🏻♀️ I use the 100 side first of the area is super uneven and then the 180 to smooth it out! 💙

I’ve never tried water slide decals, but now I must. You’re such an enabler! 😆 Quick question: After filing, did you activate again on the nails with decals? Or just place the decals, then use regular top coat (if you don’t use gel)? Just wanted to make sure I’m not missing a step before I try it!
Nope! You don’t need to activate again after filing. That activation is just to cure the top coat so it’s not necessary! 💙

So, I have my own waterslide paper that I use for another thing and decided to try to print my own decals. I made a few mistakes that I will share so that you don't make the same mistakes.
First, there are two kinds of waterslide paper: transparent and white. Please know that the color WHITE doesn't print on ANY paper. Any printing that contains white means that the white won't print (or is transparent, rather). This is because almost all printers see white as transparent because images will be printed on white paper. There is no white ink for most printers. I'm sure there are a few ... but I don't know of any.
Now, the white waterslide paper has a white background and the white spaces will print as white because it's already colored white, like paper. Both clear and white background papers are available for purchase on Amazon at least. Maybe elsewhere, but I don't know. I haven't looked. I only use the transparent paper for my logo.
Second, you must be conscious of the size of the print. If you're doing it at home and it's being printed at 1/4 inch to fit on the pinky nail (I wouldn't go smaller), have a set of tiny tweezers that you can grab the paper with once it slides off of the background. Otherwise, it will be an unusable mess if it folds in on itself. You'll NEVER get it to do anything other than dissolve. Even grabbing it as it floats in the water will be a trick.
Third, you MUST consider the background color of your nail before choosing a print. Yes, there are programs that can resize anything ... but color is the key. If you want to transfer a purple flower on top of a purple background ... well ... anything but the blacks at the size to fit a nail will disappear. Also, if you want your nails yellow and want to place a purple flower, the flower won't be "purple", but a combination of yellow and purple ... which is poop color. You can choose a white background for the flower, but you'll have to be able to trim as close to the flower as you can get or you'll see the sticker part around the edges.
Also, you can file the edges if needed to make the cut edges disappear (and we do this on wood) ... but you have to be very, very careful not to file the image at the tiny size fingernails require.
Yes, you can do your own waterslide stickers, but you have to think about where they will go and over what color you want to put them. Transparent paper will give you transparent images, but you'll have to consider the base and how the colors will mix.
You can use a white base, but the same rule applies, and then you'll also have to deal with what you didn't cut off.
In my book, as an artist and having education in color mixing ... your cheapest and easiest option will be pre-made stickers ... and you'll STILL have to consider what color the sticker will go over so that the color doesn't end up poop or puke.
