One reason for Murakami's incredible writing is that he was actually better at English than Japanese. And therefore he first writes his books in English and then translates them to Japanese. The rest is of course much hard work and talent.
Seriously considering giving this man's books a try. I saw them on show when out the other week and temptation started to rise lol it's just money and room that's the problem. You are the reason I first heard of him actually.
@@Budgieboy4068 if you want a taste of the writing style, Norwegian Wood. If you want the crazy, wacky magical realism, then definitely Kafka on the Shore :)
I am here for this lol I love Haruki Murakami. I've only read a few of his books, but most of them were great. Here's my ranking thus far. (I read part 1 of 1Q84 but went back and finished it lol I also DNFed Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman) 1. Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World (Top 15-20 book of all time) 2. Wild Sheep Chase 3. Sputnik Sweetheart 4. After the Quake 5. After Dark 6. Men Without Women 7. South of the Border, West of the Sun 8. Wind (I weirdly enjoyed this one) 9. Pinball (I did not like/remember this one) I have a lot of classic Murakami left to read. And apparently I need to read KAFKA ON THE SHORE immediately, since it has dethroned FIRESTARTER for you lol Great video as always. (Hey, I watched that Murakami video!😂hahaha)
I've read seven Murakami books and have read 1Q84 twice, first time in English then in Arabic. And I gotta say there wasn't that big of a difference between the two. It was translated very well and the translator put a lot of effort in his work. The writing was great in both languages. 1Q84 is my favorite book by Murakami. I'm hoping to read FIRST PERSON SINGULAR soon, if not, then later this year. Cheers.

I’ve heard his name before and good things about him, but I’ve never read any of his books. Maybe I might read some of his stuff. Also, Harry, your editing is on a whole nother level! Love it! I’d love to see a video on where to start with Murakami.
I've only read 4 books by Murakami and so far, After Dark is my favorite. I'm excited to read Kafka on the Shore next. 🤗 Btw, I actually thought the same way about reading his books and how it poses more questions than answers. I learned just to enjoy the amazing writing and stories rather than micro analysing everything. That made me enjoy his novels more and more.
I started reading Norwegian Wood because I wanted to know more about magical realism but in the books his character kinda said that reading Mişima was lame and I got personally offended :DD I want to give it another shot with After Dark soon tho. Great video :)))
I started with the short story Birthday Girl, and then I went straight into 1Q84. I wouldn’t recommend starting with a book as big as 1Q84, you should start with something shorter :)
If you want something really weird, go for Kafka on the Shore. If you want something simple but brilliant, go for Norwegian Wood or Sputnik Sweetheart :)

Just finished reading Norwegian wood I absolutely enjoyed I will be reading some of murakami books this summer thanks for introducing me to his work
Great video! Love Haruki Murakami.
Underrated channel, keep it up!
Excellent video! He sounds like a fascinating author... and human being! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
😁
Hopefully, you may reveal your Haruki Murakami collection just like you did with Stephen King! 🥰🥰🥰
High praise for your channel ..

Kafka on the Shore is so good!!
I plan on reading killing commendatore in either August or September this will be the first book from him that I have read 🤔🍁🏖
I wouldn’t recommend KC as his first book!

I really hope you read a few!
Has anyone read Killing commendatore? Is it a good first Murakami book? Great video btw..
I haven’t read it, but most people say it’s not a good starter Murakami book because it’s almost like a self-parody of his other works
