It will be pretty soon once fruit tree farmers find out how well they are selling in Asian grocery stores. It grows on Philadelphia area (to my surprise) in our church’s side yard. This Sunday everybody shown for the service received 2-6 fruits !
I just got some seeds from a persimmon tree today... I planted pecan trees one year in a nice row and ended up having trees all over the garden and yard from the squirrels. Lol
Thank you for making this. We bought a home with a very old persimmon tree. We don't plan to stay here long term so being able to harvest some seeds and start new trees to take with us would be very valuable. Your information is appreciated and I will definitely try your process.
Ahh, deer love them...now I know why my goats rush to our Texas Persimmon trees in the back of the pasture every day. Wow, that's amazing growth for 2 months.
I have been getting persimmons from my nieghbor for years and suddenly thought i could try to grow my own tree. It does look like a very pretty tree. Thank you I cant wait till fall for his wind fall of persimmons and giving it a try.
We have a wild persimmons tree on our farm we just purchased four months ago. We noticed some seeds on the ground and decided to put some in the freezer and grow y of them. 5 of 6 germinated and about two months old. Great video
I had six seeds from persimmons I purchased at COSTCO. I planted them in a soli mix I made (decent stuff, but not like yours) about three weeks ago, they're hanging out in full sun and get daily sprinkles (just enough to reach past the seeds), but nothing has sprouted yet. I'm praying that I can have a healthy tree out of at least one, also. Thank you for the video.
I planted Persimmon seeds as soon as I got them in the Fall. I got 60-70% of the seeds sprout into trees. My 2019 trees from seeds are about 6-8 feet tall now. Good luck
You could, but I don't really see any advantage,,some people will start vegetables inside late winter to get fruit sooner, but these trees really wont do anything until they reach the right temperatures that outside provides
Sean from the channel Edible Acres has videos about pruning beds. He has challenges with squirrels too but by using those beds, he now grows many trees. He and Akiva Silver (who wrote Trees of Power) do this very well. I'm sure you'll like the method, if you don't know about it yet. I plan to grow trees like that too. Persimmons are awesome, I hope I'll have a little orchard of them in the future. Take care!
I realize I'm posting my comment a year after yours, but I just wanted to say that your comment should have ALOT of like and replies; this is really good info you gave us. Thank you!
I must be a deer because there’s not much I wouldn’t do to harvest and eat them. Thank you for posting this video because I have been wanting to sprout some of the seeds to get my own tree. 👍🏼
I like your Pepe...Please try to find some and attempt to grow them. WWG1WGA, and literally, WW.❤🐸 (I hope you'll see this some day - today is 05Mar2023)
Can you please show us how to propagate more Texas native species that are beneficial and hard to find in the nurseries? I'd be so excited to see how to germinate Flame Leaf Sumac, Anacua, Texas Mulberry, Evergreen Sumac, Mexican Silk tassel, etc. Great channel!
Try a local nursery, or even Lowe's maybe order some online. I don't think the bark is necessary, but, of course, that's because I don't have any..hahaha...best of luck to you!
fyi i Tried to grow Fuyus N of OKC they all froze and regrew from the rootstock. Unfortunately, the fruit is 1/20 the size of a Fuyu. Do you see Fuyus around Dallas. Small tree, beautiful leaves.
I honestly don't know a lot about these trees, not exactly sure if the tree I got my seeds from is a hybrid or not. I just thought it was a cool looking tree and wanted to try and grow some. I will catch the people I got the fruit from and see if they know what variety the tree was and I will post it.
What type of Persimmon is that, For American Wild Persimmons, the seeds need to be COLD 🥶 for a few months. To get one to grow, was impressive. I just put a LOT of Persimmon seeds, in the refrigerator to be ready to grow in the spring. I'm going to sell some my seeds and some of the seedlings. Not that easy to find around my area.
Based on the photo I think you got a grafted Japanese variety. The ones that deer hunters like are American. Fruit is smaller but you'll know what you're getting when propagating. Also try stratification for better success.
Do you have to stratify the seeds before you try to germinate them? I saw on a couple of YT videos where people say that you have to put them in the freezer or refrigeration for a couple of months before you try to germinate them.
Nope. I thought so too. I put a seed in a little dirt, watered it when it looked dry, and now I have to repot it because it has roots and the stem growing out. Only took a couple weeks to happen.
Hunters like the native American persimmon tree. They have much smaller fruit but much more of them on a single tree. What you planted was an Asian persimmon, which is huge compared to the American. The American have small fruit about a quarter size to a half dollar size fruit. I have a fuyu persimmon which is supposedly the best eating persimmon, as it's non astringent and can be eaten firm or soft. The Asian persimmon you better let it get really soft or it will pucker your mouth for the day
persimmons is the best fruit i ever had, my neighbor has a tree. Its stupid they are not in every grocery store in the country.
They are good, Just not many around where I live!

Persimmons have a short shelf life I thought
They are extremely soft and rot pretty fast. That’s probably why they aren’t in stores.
I agree! The wild ones are the best. Fuyu are the second best

Hehe naughty squirrels. I bought a few baby persimmons about a year ago. Won’t have fruit for years but when I do…. 😋
Thank you, of the 5 I’ve planted 1 germinated…. It’s small but I’m happy
I planted more just recently, that video will be out later this month, had 50% germination this time

Very nice video, planting is a beautiful thing to do

My buddy in Missouri sent me some seeds to grow here in Boston. Cool tree. 👍
I had fun watching the squirrels eating persimmons. At the time, I had no clue what kind of tree/fruit they were. 😍
Thanks for sharing. I m gonna plant some seed now👌🤩
Do you have to take the brown outer coating off of the kaki seeds for them to germinate
Can I plant the seeds inside the house in the winter
You could, but I don't really see any advantage,,some people will start vegetables inside late winter to get fruit sooner, but these trees really wont do anything until they reach the right temperatures that outside provides
Were they fresh persimmon seeds or did you have them in a wet paper towel in the baggie in the fridge?
I picked the fruit, removed the seeds and stored in a ziplock bag over the winter, no paper towel though

Does the seeds need to cold stratified in the frig ?
yes They need to be cold stratified
@@GrowNewPlants thank you
@@GrowNewPlants do you keep them dried or in moist towel during stratification ? Thank you
@@AwesomeK285 I clean them well and put in a ziplock bag, if I keep the in soil or wet paper I problems with mold
Gotta love those squirrels 😄
How big are they now please
What mixture put in the soil?
I use 1/2 peat moss 1/2 perlite with Osmocote fertilizer added for all my seed starts
May I ask, how long Persimmon trees grown from seeds bearing fruits? Thanks
4 - 6 years
Do you have any advice on fertilizing 6" persimmon tree seedlings? Mine are up but what kind and how much fertilizer do they need?
My persimmon seed is up about 6 inches and only 4 leaves not thriving like yours any hints ?

Make a lil chicken wire cage for the young plants to keep squirrels off 🤣
Probably going to have to do that!!
@@GrowNewPlants looking forward to an update of all your new tree's (🐿️ chomp 🆓)
Maybe you could put some hardware cloth on top of your seeds to discourage the squirrels?
I ordered some permission seeds, And they have been in water for 2 months they still have not germinated.
I would try germinating Texas persimmons the same way
Where do you purchase the fine bark you use for potting? I'm in Oklahoma and not able to find any here. Thanks
Try a local nursery, or even Lowe's maybe order some online. I don't think the bark is necessary, but, of course, that's because I don't have any..hahaha...best of luck to you!
Put the seed on the top or in the bottom?
The fruit is sweet and 😋. Thanks for video, I will try to make one grow. Did you place the plant outside sun half day and watered every other day?

What time of year did you plant those seeds? How often did you water em?
Can we grow persimmons in the Phils?
Was this American persimmon? Do you know if one tree can produce fruits or it needs a male and female to pollinate?

What kind of camera are you using? A GoPro? I have been looking for a little camera.
Did you stratify the seeds and if so for how long?
No need, I planted my 10+ year old seedling straight after eating the fruit to the soil.

Mine look different. A little smaller. In Arkansas.

Good information,,I purchased some "American" Persimmon seeds that I will be planting soon.
Please send me same seeds
I bought 10 pounds of persimmons and none of them had seeds. and I waited until they were very soft to eat. Where are the seeds?
These are wild Texas persimmons. They're black and much smaller than the orange variety that you buy in the store.
