I applaud him for being brave enough to express his feelings of the word even though a lot of people of his race would not agree with him maybe because they do not agree or maybe because they think it's cool to not agree with him, he might get a lot of hate for it tho but at least he's speaking his mind and probably speaking on behalf of a lot of other people who agree with him but are not brave enough to say it...... And no offense to blue hat guy but he is way too young to even try to explain anything about the word, frankly you did not know what you were talking about.... If you do not like someone calling you it because it's offensive and why are you calling your fellow race that word, to be honest white people do not walk around calling each other crackers, I do not like the word and I would not like to be called that word but I do not get offended by it and I do not care if anybody calls me a cracker.... A lot of people do not know it but we are called slang for cracker because cracking of the whip, we should not continue calling ourselves crackers because that's in the past and don't act stupid but black people call white people crackers all the time and don't play dumb because you do, my opinion and nobody should use any slang word towards anybody, I mean I really don't see Mexicans walk around calling each other a spic 🤷🏼‍♂️

It's the logical way to think in a 'perfect world scenario' where people would follow the understanding that the word should be left to die. However, the problem is that doesn't work in the real world as the usual racist crowd would still retain it and throw it out as an insult and the more explicit you make it, the more of an offence it becomes when thrown as an insult, if you get me. In that sense, the only way to counter the hatred the word is associated with is to attach it to newer, more positive association. As a black person myself, I find offence in the word mostly depending on the context it's being used.

It's a form of control over another race. I think it should just be scrapped altogether. A bit like the word "Boong" which is a highly racist slur against Aboriginal Australians. NO ONE uses that word anymore. It's only because I'm old enough to remember it's use. I think the N word should just simply be scrapped from the American lexicon.

But I also think it would be the easiest and the hardest way to deal with the word in a sense. And why I say that is because it would be pretty easy to just stop using the word on paper but this is where the "hardest" part comes in. It being already so heavily used/integrated in the black community that it's like second nature for them to use the word and I think it'd be pretty hard to get rid of because of that. And you're completely right with "boong". I have never heard it being used, ever.

I think both perspectives and points of view are valid. I also think that everyone and every situation is different, so some people may not say it and like it and some people may be ok with it. Personally as a white guy I would never say it, even if I was told by my black friends that I could. I just wouldn't feel comfortable doing it. So I think they are right about who it applies to, because there is a history associated with that word. And yes some people can ignore that and that is their choice, and they can do that because they avoid consequences from it because that history is in the past. But is ignoring the history of that word, disrespectful to those from the past that suffered because of it? I think personally it is, but I also understand that everyone gets to make that choice for themselves and how they feel about it and whether or not they use the word or if they are ok with others using it and who that may include. So, I definitely see both points of view and I also think they are both valid. No one is wrong here.

And to be clear, the historical context of the word is what it is, but I respect that he would take into consideration the context in which the word is used. And it's awesome to hear different, nuanced takes on things. Also, it's kind of weird when you really think of what the other two are saying, there's a word a person can or can't say depending on the color of their skin, not for nothing...but that sounds a bit racist. What about singing along w/ a song? What if the word is used as a term of endearment towards a person of a different race?

As a black highschool history teacher in KY I get asked about this A LOT from my white students and other students of different ethnicities. So, I'm going to explain it to y'all the way that I explained it to them. (It also helped because that country singer was in trouble from being filmed saying it. Morgan Wallen I believe)
Personally, I don't use the word. Never have and I never will. As the brotha in the white T was saying, how can we as a people use a word and then tell EVERYONE ELSE who's not a part of our people that they're not allowed to use the word? Isn't that the very practice of racism? It's like back during the Civil Rights movement when there were restaurants and hotels that were "white only". Same concept, only instead of a place only certain people can use, it's a word. So for that very reason I don't use the word. Why? I'm not a hypocrite.
We as a people have got to stop letting such trivial things divide us. Another great example is the singer Bruno Mars. Black activists and some leaders complain that he's "stealing our culture" by making the music he does. I say that if he grew up listening to that kind of music and being inspired by artists such as Prince, MJ, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, and so; then it is just as much his culture as it is anyone else. Those who attempt to compare Bruno, who makes original music, to the likes of the artists from the 50s and 60s who just straight up STOLE whole songs or beats or melodies; they look foolish. No comparison whatsoever.
How can we expect to be taken seriously when we argue against racism and at the time tell everyone else that they're not the correct race to join our club? We can't!!!

I love the fact that y’all spent half the video having that discussion. It’s a healthy and legitimate discussion for our society. I may be a 32 y.o. Southern white guy, but I’ve always found racism to be the most idiotic invention ever. I grew up in Shreveport, LA in the ‘90s seeing the unfortunate, violent change in that area in real time, and I remember questioning- as a kid- why people of different skin colors were hurting each other like that.
I was never comfortable with that word, even during/after high school (~’05-‘10ish) when I hung out with a lot of black friends along with other ethnicities like Latinos and Polys. I never used the word.
One of my friends even told me he appreciated the fact that I didn’t use it, although we still would’ve been cool if I had. It meant something to him and my friends that I respected them too much to use a word that was bastardized from Latin to degrade an entire people who simply look different. Now, I coach and teach high school English, and I have these kinds of discussions with my students because it really does affect people in different ways.
If y’all haven’t seen it before, y’all should listen to Richard Pryor’s bit about his trip to Africa and his revelation about the “N word.” It’s really beautiful how he put it: “That’s a word that describes our own wretchedness. That word’s dead because we never were n*****s.”

Exactly. They can't want us to like their music and then get angry when we sing it or rap it. Personally I'm just over it, so I don't even bother with most black music.

Taj is talking y'all. I love it! I know Stevie Knight stopped using the word all together. No matter how it's used, or by who, it's still divisive in a way. It's good to hear these conversations among you. It's beautiful. ❤️

Yes, paraphrasing Stevie's perspective, it basically came down to any word that some people are allowed to say and some aren't, just creates division. Totally respect his point of view.

Brother in the white shirt has my respect. Almost all my homies are black, I'm not. We all grew up saying it. When I got older I decided to stop and I explained that I wasn't going to anymore because it's derogatory slander that no one should use. Some of my boys stopped as well but many of them still say it. I choose not to.

Hi my friends, I like the beginning conversation. I'm a white guy and I understand you mean brother when you say it.
One of the problems with the dialect is in the music that transends race. Other people want to sing songs with the offensive language, but have to be careful.
Interracial relationships/friendships make the dialogue rub off.
The context of the meaning is established by the person using it regardless of race. I do get the point of who it applies to, but it is a form of infringement on free speech.
It is a bit rediculous to hold something over people that had nothing to do with the words origins, but hey, I ain't mad.
I enjoy your reactions fellas. Keep smiling
