    Well, I would never have thought to use dish soap! That background is absolutely gorgeous Kylie and could be seen as a piece of art in its own right ❤️

    When I was in art school we just used plain dish liquid into acrylics and mix it up until you got bubbles for a really interesting effect. The big card is gorgeous!!

      Thanks Robynn. I haven't mixed them right into the acrylics like that but I will give it a go now. Thanks again :)

    I wonder if you can use the greenish used salt on a contrasting color background, like pink. Would you get a greenish halo but also the lightened areas? Very pretty results you've gotten. Thank you! 💖 Plus, have you tried blowing big bubbles in a watery paint with a straw. Then spoon the bubbles onto paper. It gives bigger spots when the bubbles dry and pop.

    • @KylieCooStudio
      @KylieCooStudio  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Susan - I'll need to try that with the salt and see what happens. I've used bigger bubbles in the past by just agitating the water more and then laying them on to the paper but I thought I would try it in a spray bottle this time as it would be easier to film. Great idea to blow the bubbles with a straw - I've done that with paint but not with bubbles - I'll give it a go

    Thanks for the inspiration. I am so excited to try these texture methods. I'm going to be using them on a multi-layered canvas with acrylic that has several layers of gloss medium between. This should be interesting!

      @KylieCooStudio  4 роки тому

      Thanks so much Princess Sparkle - that sounds really interesting. I think the gloss medium will work well in-between and should give great results. :)

      Thanks so much Ellie - hope you enjoy trying the dish soap - you could also try it by making the bubbles in a bowl and then just laying them on top of the painted paper - you'll get a different look then :)

    What a very interesting video, Kylie. I've only used rock salt on watercolour in the past and found that it was best to let it dry completely - like you, I was a little impatient at first but did better the second time. (It's called learning by experience, isn't it? :-D)
    I absolutely love the large blue/green sheet that you did. It's just so beautiful but I'm definitely going to have a go with washing-up liquid too. I wonder whether agitating it to make large bubbles would work and give an effect. I'll have to try it. Many thanks!!

    • @KylieCooStudio
      @KylieCooStudio  4 роки тому

      Thanks Edna. I had intended to do the 'experiments' a day earlier and to leave everything overnight - but the best plans and all that! I did actually quite like the little crater effect that the rock salt left by doing it - but usually I would leave it for longer. Yes - you would get a different effect by using bigger bubbles. In the past I've made a big bowl of them and then just scooped the bubble out and left it on the page - but that wasn't going to be so easy to film. I'd need to try and set that up in my kitchen. Have fun experimenting :)

    I've found that using paper that is less absorbent creates more reaction

      I was thinking either gesso the watercolor paper or use vellum bristol board.

    • @KylieCooStudio
      @KylieCooStudio  4 роки тому

      Hi Cheryl - yes, the little cards in particular were very absorbent - even a layer of gel medium beforehand would work. Thanks for watching and commenting :)

    • @KylieCooStudio
      @KylieCooStudio  4 роки тому +1

      Yes J. Adams - that would work. The little ATC cards were just too absorbent for this but the hot pressed watercolour paper was fine. I've used a layer of gel medium previously as the first layer on the paper and that also works well. :)

    Thank you so much Kylie I really really love 💕 this experiment and I really really love 💕 all of it, but the last piece using all the salts and fairy liquid to, create the very very best result..... I really think 🤔 Nina is right, it could be a work of art in its own right. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags P.S. We certainly couldn’t do without you that’s for sure.

The last experiment using all the techniques is gorgeous. Love the four colors you used - - very effective. TFS. I did. God bless and stay safe.

    REALLY loving the large piece...the detail shots shown at the end really highlight it’s beauty! Yes, watercolor paper tends to curl, I think if I were to use it I’d tape it down with a masking tape until fully dry! What type of paper did you use for the large piece...I’m not remembering. I think that may be the way I go with this prompt. Wishing you the best!💕

    • @KylieCooStudio
      @KylieCooStudio  4 роки тому

      Thanks so much Mary. I really should have used different and larger pieces of paper rather than using those small pre-cut ATC cards - the paper was just too absorbent. Or I should have coated them with something first. The large sheet was hot pressed watercolour paper - the exact brand is: Daler Rowney Hot Pressed Aquafine Smooth Watercolour paper. It was from an A3 pad (11.7x16.5 inches) and is 300gsm 140lbs. Best wishes to you

    A bit late to the party, but I just did this with a friend (on Zoom), who does a bit of crafty stuff and wanted to show me. Her version, she put a coat of salted water on the watercolour paper first, then drip ink on it with a pipette, and move the paper round to dribble the ink. Getting amazing fractals....then different kinds of salt, then we had a go with spray surgical spirit, then an underlay of wax crayon, or no soak in places....loads of fun, amazing colours, even with my only ink, an ancient bottle of black fountain pen ink. Like to leave some one white space as well. Mopping up with Japanese paper (another project..). And bigger sheets of paper are better. She keeps all her salt to use again.

    • @KylieCooStudio
      @KylieCooStudio  3 роки тому

      Wow! Sounds like a great process Jane and I saw the results you got - fantastic. I also keep the salt and re-use it as often as I can. Thanks for letting me know the steps that you followed :)

    I wonder. With the inks, would you get a better reaction if the paper was sized first? That way they wouldn't absorb into the paper.

    • @KylieCooStudio
      @KylieCooStudio  4 роки тому

      Yes I think that would help. The ATCs were just too absorbent so it would need a coat of something to act as a barrier. The ink would have probably worked better on the same paper as I used for the big piece. Thanks for watching and commenting :)

    • @KylieCooStudio
      @KylieCooStudio  4 роки тому

      Yes that would probably help stop the paint absorb quite as much on the ATCs. Thanks for watching and commenting :)
