With those cameras showing up on the used market with regularity at an affordable price, it has me thinking. What a great way to get into medium format.
You can get a 100S or a 50 for cheap on the second hand market right now. Great time to get into it. The difference between a 100S and 100SII sensor is marginal at best. The price difference though....huge. It's why I haven't upgraded my 100S. I would basically be spending $3000 more for better AF and one more film simulation. Not a good value for me.
Always enjoy your videos yeah this lens is an interesting one isn't it? I love it for the size. I don't own it but it does feel appealing but now that I have the 55 1.7 there's no reason for me to own this lens but I do think for people that don't have a 50 mm lens for their GFX. I think this is a great consideration especially making the footprint of the camera a lot smaller as well. I think that's a really good reason to buy this lens.
I think if you have proper space and don't need to shoot it in low light handheld, it's a fantastic solution. But the 45 is just a more compatible focal length with how I shoot. Thanks for the support!
I have both the 45 and the 50, and use them on my 100 ii. The 45 is clearly sharper and faster, but significantly larger. For street use, I typically prefer the 50 for size/weight convenience, but the 45 is really great overall.
Got the 50 on the GFX50R and expected to have to replace it when something better became available (like the 55/1.7 recently). Instead, I am happy with the performance and AF is pretty fast for GFX. So I'm still using it, next to a 30 and 110. Wide open, the sharpness is not as good as the other two but (the only thing that matters) plenty good enough. Can 100% recommend 🙂
Couldn’t figure out why I was seeing your videos , then I saw that , somehow, I was subscribed. Must have been drunk. Problem fixed. Good luck with your endeavors.
The 50 and 110 are my only lenses on GFX so size for performance the 50 is great. Agree with the shortcomings though. Overall I think it is an often overlooked lens but worth a try for those looking for a lighter general lens.
I have a copy of the lens that I use with a GFX 50S II. I think it's fine as a daily use lens, if you like the focal length. I consider it to be the GFX alternative to the XF 27mm for X series. For general photography, I tend to prefer the longer focal length of the GF 63mm, and I find the GF 45mm to be too wide for my style. The GF 50mm is a good choice, for me, when I want the lightest solution.
Do you have the GF50mm f/3.5? Do you like the 45 better? Tell me about it in the comments below.
This is exactly the video I needed right now - thank you.
So glad! You're welcome
Great, detailed review - thank you! 🙏 good to know re low light
Glad it was helpful!

@@KevinDeal yeah I agree after having my 55 1.7 and I took it out for some night photos oh my gosh it's such a game changer

I don’t really notice the weight difference. It’s mathematically there. But I guess I just don’t notice it that much.

50 is an excellent choice to pair up with the 30 and 110.

I like the 55. Not practical for a walk round unfortunately
@@KevinDealjust realized my typo, I meant the 50mm 😄
@@benard702 Ok. That context makes sense. Yeah. the 50 is a great value for the money. It resolves well.

I love the 63mm. Excellent lens
I like it, but it´s not a lens of passion. It´s like the 27mm/f2.8 for the Fuji X.
Great comparison. I never bought the 27 2.8 for my X mount for that very reason.
@@KevinDeal But you should still try it. It´s sharp, neutral and compact.
@@eklatist I've tried it. But it didn't inspire me, which is why I didn't buy it.
@@KevinDeal It is not very inspiring, true.
