Not even slightly, no, and I'm surprised they even took this route. But kicking the can calls for desperate measures.
I'm surprised Gamestop Canada still has them up to preorder or recently put them back up...
Based on how everything has manifested and unfolded regarding the Amico, call it crazy but this whole ordeal seems to be it was a get rich scam. They created a concept, created a ghost company, convinced and deceived people out of their real money to make it seem legit. Over hype the thing in hopes of being purchased by other legit real production tech company. Why did they have an exit strategy since its inception? Real suspicious. Their slogan may have been: 'Invest now while shares are available in hopes of gaining profit once bought out', dude .. the Amico is not coming out ever I believe.
If it means that they can grab money for not doing work, it seems like a perfect scam to me.
I'm shocked it took this long. I assumed this move would have happened about a year ago.

I had a dream last night where in the year 2077, The Intellivision Amico was delayed again due to an ambiguous reason. When I woke up, I thought, "Pat and Ian will have to come out of retirement to address this." Good times :)
I can't stop looking at the image in the middle showing the Amico and its "controllers." It looks like an answering machine from the year 1998 with a couple of air conditioner remotes attached to it. It doesn't exactly scream "game console." It screams "design nightmare."

In the corporate world, bad news is typically given on a Friday afternoon after the markets close so stocks aren't impacted, people are distracted by personal plans, and the news gets lost in whatever happens over the weekend. The fact the Amico people keep publishing bad news after your podcast on Tuesdays, going against the industry norm, shows how much importance they attribute to your messaging.
These games are so unique, that they could *never* be played on any other console. /s

If Nintendo can figure out how to properly port Skyward Sword from the Wii to the Switch, then any of these AMICO shovelware games can even more easily be ported to anything else!
this is more like changing the build target in unity. the devs that made them would've built them on android target anyway, it's not like most of them had dev units anyway.
I just tried it after 10 years and I had a really hard time playing. I don't remember it being so difficult to control. Maybe it isn't me then and it's the switch vs wii
Funny in how Tommy never interviewed any "soccer moms" despite going online for a year talking with many 50+ year old men who were starstruck by him. The guy knew that anyone with any sort of unbias opinion and who would have any sort of common sense would ask him all the obvious questions that he clearly could not answer honestly.

This is ending exactly how I figured it would. With a quiet death nell and all the people involved just kinda slithering off into the world avoiding accountability. Especially their fearless leader, for as much of a loudmouth as he was, he has been probably the most quiet of all them.

Even if the Amico functioned flawlessly, it would still fail because of the controller. My first video game console was an Intellivision. You would be hard pressed to find a controller worse than the Intellivision controller. The layout made no sense, it was incredibly uncomfortable, and the overlays we're gimmicky trash that always wound up getting lost. Why would anyone think an updated version of that would be a success? They should have just used knock off PS2 controllers. It would have drastically reduced the price and they might have even been able to actually release the damn thing.
Colecovision controller was garbage.
Had they replaced the controller it would no longer have any reason to be called an Intellivision...

This whole “bug” issue reminded me of when the ZX Spectrum Vega plus scammers were postponing it because an issue with “a controller button”. They mentioned it for two years, and when some of them were shipped, turns out they never fixed up anything.

Nice for them to confirm that all the talk about the system being ready to go one year ago was bollocks. This thing will end like the Vega + ended: we’ll see a handful of buggy, barely working units with a couple games on it (since I doubt the 6 pack-in games are done) built by hand and shipped out and that’ll be all she wrote.

I loved how Tommy and the marketing team thought Tommy was the selling point. I had no idea who he was or that he was the guy who did Video Games Live until I heard on the podcast.
I think this podcast was the first time I ever heard Tommy's name, but it was them talking about him b/c of the video game years. And you know what, based on his behavior, it made me NOT want to buy this shitty console.
In case you didn't know... Tommy thinks very highly of himself.

I knew who he was, but only because he was on Electric Playground/Reviews on the Run which ran on TV here in Canada. He was one of many co-hosts who showed up over the years and always came off a bit annoying. Funny enough, the main host, Victor Lucas, is a SUPER nice guy and he actually still does Electric Playground on his UA-cam channel like 20+ years later... don't think he's ever covered the Amico since it's hardly even newsworthy but boy that would be a funny one.
Let’s be real. None of these licensing deals will ultimately go through, as none of the games are playable without the Amico controller.
You mean to tell me his plan to manipulate retro channels to advertise, and dupe into buying while simultaneously saying it wasn’t for us gaming racists didn’t work? But he read interviews about how Nintendo made the Kirby franchise and the Wii successful? You mean it takes more than just watching a couple Gaming Historian videos to launch a game console. Whoa, it’s like super tough to do this apparently.
The thing that should be crystal clear in the future (though it won’t be) is that being skeptical and critical of a product is not personal, nor is it somehow bullying. If anything, it is to help to educate consumers into making a more informed purchase, or have them avoid it altogether, whatever the consumer decides, he’s more informed by having more questions answered than not.
You guys took a lot of flack for being skeptical, and it worked out. These other guys, they were warned plenty of times, and they made their bed, some of them continue to do so lol. Well, they can’t complain when their audience cannot trust a word they say now, it’s their own fault.

Pat and Ian, I have to say, I appreciate you guys still covering this, despite the chore it must be for you. It seems the "haters" don't understand that nobody actually wants modern retro gaming projects to fail, especially like this. Just that people ask some basic questions when someone announces something new. Each scam scares off future investors and hurts the next promising project's chances. If your Amico coverage helps others shut down the next scam before it gets legs, then it's a service to the retro community.

It was funny, I said to myself "we haven't heard from Intellivision in a while" and the next morning, there's an email in my inbox.
I too have noticed it coming out right after this podcast. That was the second thought I had after seeing the email (the first being "how are they going to tell us nothing _this_ time?") - wow, Pat and Ian probably just finished recording their latest podcast before this news came out. Weird how that's become normal.
I don't really have anything to say about the "update" though. They have no office any more, they have no console, the "errors" sound like BS, Phil Adam contradicts himself in his own "update", and they're selling their crap games for other systems despite saying it was literally impossible. That's all there is to it. The Amico isn't coming out. I just wish they'd drop the act already. It's tiresome.

i loved my first intellivision. the cards on the controllers sucked. Got it when I was 5 with over 30 gams at a yard sale for 40 bucks. My first atari had a cart with zif socket and 40 eeproms with a switch for 4k 8k and 16k. I had the game where your chassing the indian around naked, and didnt even know they where naked the graphics sucked so much. This console is not going to give me the same feeling.
So, their plan is to sell a _"legally distinct"_ version of Bomberman under a title that was abandoned long ago, Shark Shark!: A game which is so unique that I can name at least 5 games which either clone it or feature the gameplay as a minigame (Spore, that one multiplayer ball game that was popular a while ago, Osmose, that one Amoeba game, and...fLoW.), and _Moon Patrol,_ a game _you, yes YOU, could program right now in BASIC._
As for the matter of the "production run" there's suggestions of the idea that Phil tried to recall the test/proto units, nobody picked up, and that's the _actual_ delay. Course' that's just an unfounded rumor~
Because why would a bug like this go undetected, or even unresolved for over 3 years? What were they parading around at the events in Utah, if not prototypes, huh? ;) (Really, this is something that you'd catch in the flowchart stage.)
See, the problem with this licensing deal is that it assumes games exist in a vacuum, which maybe the former CEO's brain was sealed in one. See, Super Bomberman R _was before the Amico was announced._ Going on about how great your dollar store knockoff might have worked if the series was still in hiatus. On the other hand, the former CEO _did_ seem to conflate Dynablaster as some unique standalone entity instead of a retitling because of a _tragic terrorist bombing_ that had recently occurred at the time of the release; and early installment weirdness. Anyone remember Eric & the Floaters?
I think bbg just acquired or re-registered from zero the dynablaster trademark or something. their angle was always to pretend that it wasn't a (likely time limited) licensed bomberman port and tommy went with that pretend angle.
I really doubt that hudson had the contract for it include an okay to sell a different bm clone 30 years later. if they just made a bomberman clone that would've been better and called it bomblast or something.
dynablaster for dos was a pretty good port though, well liked.
for shark shark, the pop cap freeding frenzy games are more known than shark shark in that genre (from popcap).
Every advertiser who got their plug in on an amiico episode got huge value for money. Love it.

If you watch their early coverage, they were quite fair and actually cut it a lot of slack. It was when Tommy decided he didnt like negativity (they weren't) and he got personal for no reason. All because b/c they wouldn't knee before Tommy and kiss his ring. Tommy thinks people should respect him, but he doesn't have to respect anyone.

Hi intellivision! In case you're looking at the comments, here's some free advice as a random person with 0, not 600, years in the industry...
Whatever your hunch or Tommy tells you to do, write it down, read it aloud, then don't do that. Maybe the opposite? But anything but that.
If I had a dollar for every piece of good business advice Tommy gave, I'd have Intellivision's amount of debt.
You can't leave us hanging on that 55 minute video response when it's victory lap time.
I think when the time is right we will see a response to that video, and I cant wait for it.

I'd like someone in the know to decode that techno babble they put in this article to see if it's real or bs.
I predict their next delay will be because the electronic delta-wave generator in the controller had a software bug in the mainframe which caused them to need to synchronize the cerium pulse booster wiper to correct the issue. Also, torsional ram converter had a defect on the production line which corrupted the isotopic polar defragmentor on the mainboard. The issue has been corrected by adjusting the nanowave frequency shifter which balanced out the isotopic polar defragmentor back to normal.
That sounds about right except for the Flux Capacitor that needs tweaking too. Good comment. 🏆
It’s pretty simple and Intellivision explained it perfectly well. “Order of Operations” error means that if the user pushed ‘left’ on the 3,096 directional pad of the Amico, it was programmed to first do nothing, then go right, then finally move left.
That is my officially unofficial explanation.

The 1990 port of Bomberman on the Amiga was actually also called Dyna Blaster!
Why they decided to bring back that title (with presumably no official Bomberman attachment) is beyond me though.
That's like them saying "Hey, we bought the rights to Probotector so we're bringing that back!", except Konami's not involved and it's a ripoff of Contra.
Honestly it could be a cute thing if they turned Dyna Blaster (or Probotector for that matter) into its own IP, it's unusual but not unheard of. The same thing pretty much happened with G.I. Joe and Action Man.
Of course they'd have to give it its own gameplay and identity, letting it diverge from Bomberman instead of just being a knockoff.
The game's tagline should be: "At least it's not Eric & The Floaters!"
The PS4 controller has 15 buttons (not including options & share) as well as touch controls, gyro controls and visual tracking allowing for it to be visually represented in VR. What games does the amico have exactly where that wouldn’t be enough?

The sales of these games on other consoles won't make a dent.
The Tommy talking take to the UA-camrs and not one will interject him about the controller or the games and this is like a loop that is running 24/7 and never stops and give any specific details on how will the consoles will work with the cr*ppy controller that he is talking too.
Cancel the Amico. Looking back there was no reason to ever have this console. There's so many other options for families like the Switch.

I don't have any hopes for major documentary. Mostly cause the general public may not believe a company was this self harming to be real or continue to exist for as long as it has.
I’d settle for a dramatic reading of some of Tallarico’s more outrageous posts on AtariAge. There are thousands of them to choose from, which means the most difficult part would be choosing the best (worst) of them.
I think that people could believe that a badly run company headed up by a thinly skinned narcissist who wanted to be a CEO without doing any of the actual hard work to earn it could exist. It just sounds like a story that couldn't be made up if someone tried.

It's not mean to call DynaBlaster a reskin of Bomberman because that was actually the title of the original Bomberman releases in Europe. I had the game for DOS as a kid, but I didn't know that was Bomberman until like 10 years later. I guess Hudson/Konami must've sold or licensed the name alone at some point? At least I hope so, otherwise lawsuits.

if amico wasnt an investor scam from the get go they could have done this profitable by making amico games bundles for the switch. games like outbreak and astrosmash could have sold fairy well for 5-10 dollar on the eshop.

I really was excited for the Amico at first. But I lost interest after the third delay. And started realizing the bullshit artist Tommy really was and is. Multiple empty promises of the same shit and not seeing anything. Honestly I have mixed thoughts about the IPs coming to other consoles. Great podcast and just subbed.
A compilation of all the Amico games for maybe 10$ I would like to buy, just for fun, maybe for PC or just for Android phones.

This is following the same exact pattern of the Intellivison Computer Keyboard component back in the 80's.
They were being fined every day for it not releasing.... So finally they just put together a, stripped down version and sold a limited supply of them on mail order to avoid lawsuit...

The big news here is that even shovelware companies are dropping the Amico. They're not saying it as such. I'm sure they're fully prepared to provide their previously-agreed shovelware to the Amico IF it releases. But they've realized it isn't going to come out and now are moving to other platforms. It's telling that no other company is willing to tie their future in with Intellivision. No other studios are willing to remain exclusive to Amico, because they know the project is a failure. When even the shitty iphone game devs know your product is a scam, what's the point of pretending otherwise? Without exclusivity, there will be zero reason to buy an Amico even IF it eventually released and even IF it weren't a bug-riddled mess. If you can buy the same games on the Switch (which already occupies Amico's market,) why would you bother with Amico? Nintendo provides a superior product to the same market and does so with a minimum of BS.

SHORTER COMMERCIALS OR PUT THEM AT THE END. its money for you i get it, but its a 20 min video with a solid 2 minute commercial and the you-tube ad before it. Go for a 30 second commercial, time stamp, or put it at end -- so many ways to not make it as intrusive.
