Benchmade SOCP Tactical Folder Review | Designed For The US Special Operations Combatives Program

- Опубліковано 30 вер 2024
- A review and brief discussion on the pros and cons of Greg Thompson's Benchmade 391BK SOCP folding knife. A play off the original SOCP fixed blade design, this folder is designed to work with the tactics used in Greg Thompson's training of US Special Forces.
Turns out it also makes a pretty badass EDC knife...

Any musings, recommendations, or "advice" given on this channel around the topics of self-defense, survival, or "apocalypse" scenarios are purely hypothetical and are meant to be interpreted as satire. These topics are being presented for entertainment's sake and for the purpose of theoretical discussion to help prepare the mind and body for the worst case scenario... however unlikely that may be. I do not recommend anyone carry any knife or tool as a weapon and/or for the purpose of self-defense. Become familiar with and obey all federal, state/provincial, and municipal laws/by-laws in your area regarding self-defense, what knives/gear can be legally owned/purchased, and what can be legally carried on one's person.
To me, if you are buying a folder for combat, you might as well just buy one you like and gives the most utility as this has all the Cons the fixed blade addressed. It just does not transfer over. Having said that, I am not much a fan of the fixed version I own as it does not fit the handle well, it is super thin, sits in the hand more at a 45 degree twist, and the finger hole takes practice. I'd rather a fixed blade with a full handle I can grasp from the get go. I recently bought a SOG Flash AT.
Very fair.
I’ve also done a video on the fixed blade version and totally agree with your assessment. I do like it for a lot of reasons-the overall weight and profile while in the sheath probably being #1. I’ll definitely be getting the trainer either way, as it makes for a decent trainer for my anaconda.
That SOG Flash looks like a fine purchase 👌
Tetragon new price is $320 Al Flaherty's out of Hamilton is $293 Prices jumped in the past few months.
Have a look at the Extrema Ratio BF3 Dark Talon. Long and thin folder. Better slicer than the SOCP folder.
We pay 390 for it in Australia, FYI
I have carried this socp folder in my waistband behind my belt for the past almost 3 years. I highly recommend. I am looking to buy a second one. I paid $160 for mine. Now they want $220.
Damn, good to hear it 👌
@@HardOnGearChannelI just found this channel. Thank you for the content. Gonna sub right now.
@@totopullingbackcurtain4445 Sick, thanks for the support 🤙
If you head to my channel playlists, there’s a small playlist of tactical knife videos that may tickle your fancy.
i have the one with the serrated edge to it. i love it so much.
Not a bad looking knife. Not going to make my list of shit I want. With a name like Hard on Gear I’m surprised people lend you knives for review ! 🤣🤣🤣
Me too buddy… me too… 😅
Thanks for your return viewership 🍻
Welcome back my friend 🎉!
Many thanks! Feels good to be getting back into the swing of things ✌️
I have this knife. The blade takes a keen edge. It gets worn in rotation.
Very nice
Thanks dude. The new logo looks sick!
hey bud you might want to check out the crkt hvas its a good low budget edc knife with crkt's field strip tec
Nice! That is a slick little budget beauty. Thanks buddy 👊
Hate to say it but I have several knives made for self defense but this would be the one with the weakest lock. And one of the most expensive…
And it’s simply overpriced but…yeah they make quality knives, good workmanship but the price for lower quality materials is just Not acceptable.
I have a d2 folder that costs around 30€…great heat treating. G10(!) handle…
I can’t logically argue against any of that. I’ll just say that (even for me, and I consider myself to be a function over aesthetics guy) sometimes the design/feel/vibe of a knife makes up for it’s weaknesses to some people. There are way better options in almost every individual category, but it’s still a solid fucking knife, and just so happened to be the one my buddy was drawn to.
I’ll probably try and get him on next summer to help me do some updated reviews of his knives once he’s out them through their paces. Maybe he’ll be able to better validate your concerns.
Thanks for the comment 🍻
