Hard On Gear
Canada
Приєднався 23 січ 2021
A knife and outdoor gear review channel from someone who truly uses (and abuses) their equipment. Through my own trial and error (and many idiotic mistakes) I've gained some insight around what equipment is worth investing in and what it can handle. If you want honest and pragmatic reviews of hard use knives and gear, then consider subscribing.
*Channel Resume:
-10+ years experience in forestry, wildfire, distressed wildlife calls, and variety of outdoor and labor tasks
-Former Forest Technician & Wildland Firefighter by trade
-Briefly in the Canadian Armed Forces until injured in training
-Martial artist, musician, fitness enthusiast, and knowledge-seeker by hobby
*H.O.G. Channel Objectives:
#1: To always put honesty and integrity FIRST; marketing second.
#2: To provide mostly practical discussions... while sometimes musing on hypothetical survival and self-defense scenarios.
#3: To continuously expand my knowledge and share what I learn-the good and the bad.

If You ONLY Buy ONE FIXED BLADE KNIFE… This KA-BAR Is A Solid Choice! | Jarosz Turok Knife Review
The Jarosz Turok is one of the very best all around fixed blade knives I’ve ever handled.
There are better slicers, better choppers, and better hunting knives, and better camp/bushcraft knives… but if you want a knife that can do it all quite well, this is a great choice.

Man I like all three those knives.
That thing is small.
Yeah, I need what I need regardless
I have dozens of spydercos, hogues, kershaws, etc, and every time i try to carry one, it only lasts a couple of days, and i go back to the 940.
I use the same carry principle but I mostly wear sweat pants so I tie the lanyard to the pants cord in front and I place the knife in my side pocket. Works great. As a bonus point, in the evening, when I get comfortable at home, I can carry it as a neck knife
Many people here complain that a axe is the tool for splitting wood, and right they are. Nevertheless, an axe has some weight to it, if you are hikingfor a long time. Then is to consider, you hqve hiked all day, it gets evening, light goes down, you have to do a few tasks still. Erect a shelter, prepare a fire, cook a meal. But the thing is, you are tired, and the light isn't giod anymore. I have seen many a man hurting himself using an axe under less than ideal circumstances. With batoning, there's almost no risk. That said, i'd want a knife a bit more sturdy than the kansbol for going after the big logs. It's a bery good knife, i use it all the time and it has quickly become a favourite of mine. But it weighs almost nothing, so i can pack a mora companion or something else to my pack without breaking my back. Greetings from Austria
Under rated channel!
Good but dated review. I have a Recon 1 in CTS-XHP, plain edge, drop point! Good knife! Also have Recon 1s in S35VN, clip point, tanto point and the new Recon 1 M1 in magnacut, clip point. They went with a finer G10 on the newer Recons, doesn't seem to be as much a pocket shredder as the older Recons. I have all plain edges, easier to sharpen and maintain. Like washers better than bearings vs ball bearings which get sand and dirt in them affecting the action.
No. Static line sheathing is stupid. You have to clear the knife out of your waistband, then out to the end of the static line, then out of the sheath, making your draw time three times as long as if you just used an Ulti Clip. I don't care how fast you can draw on static line, your draw time would be 1/3rd of that with an Ulti Clip so even if it's 3/4ths of a second, faster is better. Also, it requires less of a range of motion. Believe it or not the bad guy can trap your arm and limit your range of motion. So if the range of motion is 1/3rd of what it would be with a secured sheath and not that floppy ass static line bullshit, you have a much better chance of getting the knife out with your arm trapped. Also, if you are drawing your knife A) it's close quarters which means B) your arm motion is probably limited. Otherwise you would just use your firearm. Static line is dumb and can get you killed.
Here in the U.K that costs the equivalent of about $120 Canadian
Good demonstration
I just got one in D2 $30.00
I have it on me all the time. I never knew it was illegal in Canada 😢. Is there a specific law ?
Gotta love big knives. Sawback knives have intrigued me, but I never purchased one. I would purchase that one. I hear that sawback actually works pretty well 👍
Definitely has a lefty sense of humor.
I think the PM2 is better,, but,, I might get the lightweight version.. Mainly because it's very light, 😂
The 940 suffers from everything else that BM makes.... The ridiculous butterfly tax. I think theyre great knives as far as knives go....but are overpriced.....and I've had two omega springs and two auto springs break over the years.....the auto's i had to ship from the dealer because where they make BMs have ridiculous knife laws that wont allow them to ship autos to anything but a dealer....like its an FFL. I still own a few BMs....but I won't have anymore unless they're in the used case at a pawn shop. But Cold Steel.... Love them.
Ive had this same knife for years. It is my EDC and work knife. Sharpens easily and stays sharp. Thought I lost it a few months ago and I almost cried. Thankfully I found it and all is well. I highly recommend this knife
Bradford G3 and it's not even close for me. I've owned both these knives for about 2 years, and the G3 gets all the love. The Izula is good for yard work when i don't wanna worry about chipping/ snapping the blade, but it rusts too easily and doesn't hold an edge long enough for me. Both good knives for their use cases, but i get much more use out of the g3
Very nice exsotic looking Tomahawk but man,900-1000+ $??It's not a car!
How does it compare to the Tops Steel Eagle 107 models?
If fingers could talk. Do you ever review your presentation ?
I want to „Samurai Carry“ a knife, which has a simular length and width to the biggest knife you Show Here on the left. Do you think that is possible¿ i know it will be a Bit more uncomfortable Than Your Karambit Style knife but i really want to Carry this knife in a concealed way. Strapping it to my belt is Out of question. Do you think this will be good or is there another concealed Carry Option which Suits bigger knifes better¿
I used to think the plastic sheaths were crap too. They actually are quite good.
Nice😊
Great knife for sure😊
"Hard use" lol there's no way on earth I would use a Spyderco to open a Spam cam of ammo, but the cold steel however, all day!
😂😂😵💫😵💫
Awesome video! Bought two of this SOCP knives when they first came out. They're great on and off duty knives. Thanks for sharing!
Excellent knife! Changed the scales though and now, it's bullet proof...
Just got mine today ❤
I did this with a spyderco delica, and it worked, so I took it off and carved a small notch in the spine to do the same thing. It worked so well I started doing it to all my knives. They all work well, but they gradually damage the pockets of my jeans if I do it a lot (except the delica). It seems the unique shape of spyderco blades makes the mod work better. ua-cam.com/users/shortslYzvJHMh_f8?si=GZNAL_gwgj0A2R0Y
Very nice knife
I like the way it looks to scout carry but I’m too afraid of stabbing myself trying to put it back in the sheathe.
Oh man, the Guardian comes in carbon fiber, sculpted G10, Micarta, what else could you ask for? As for ergos, I think a choil is usually more ergonomic than a flat, especially with a spear point blade. I give the full 2nd category to the Guardian as well, it's really a no-contest these aren't even comparable.
M21 has been my EDC for about 6 years now.
Canada is a giant California 👎
I carry a fixed edc in my pocket clipped in with an angled clip and you can’t see it but it has to be the right size. It’s practical but a folding knife is more fidget fun.
How much is this? In China, it's hard to get genuine ones.
Most of Glock's shovels in China are 250 cny around (35 usd).
Cool Subbed!
You can open up the small holes in the sheath with a rat tail file to make it fit the ball chain. I had to do it with the larger holes to get it to work with holster screws.
I started collecting knives in 2020 or 2021. I bought one Cold Steel but I didn't like it so I gave it away. Last month (10/2024), I bought a Recon 1 tanto. Except for the fact that the Tri-Ad lock beats up my thumb, I love the knife. My favorite is my Spyderco Military 2. I have to say my Recon 1 has tied it as my favorite in my collection. In fact, I love it so much I just bought a spear point version this afternoon (11/08/2024). I'll be getting it tomorrow and I'm excited. I love the aesthetics, I love the ergos and I love how sharp the blade comes out of the box.
Nice dude, I’ve also started collecting knives around the time you started. I just got a recon 1 in spear point a few days ago. Love this knife; it’s definitely up there with possibly one of the sturdiest pocket knives in the world. I personally think the ad-10 might beat it by a little in that department but it’s close. Recon looks better anyways. I also just ordered a SRK in 3v just last night, can’t wait to get that.
carry the blur all day in canada with the glassbreak knife rocks now in magnacut too
Esse knives are horrible quality 1095 is horrible for outdoors
my mates imported a really nice bench made OTF from USA. That thing is so nice to touch and deploy. i knew it wasnt a knock off either cos i had a knock off to study and it did not sound near as smooth and precise as his one. think he paid 700 bucks all up as shipping is very expensive on its own to our small southern pacific country.
Out of folding knifes, my key features must have ball bearings for smooth operation, flipper tab or emmerson wave for pocket deployment. i have a cold steel luzon large which i could open as i pull out of my pocket using the flipper tab to catch the edge of my pocket. had a 6" ti lite, while i can open it reasonable quick with wrist flick, i could not open it as quick as i could with the luzon cos its opened via thumb stud on the blade. most important part of knife ownership is regular maintainance. if its kept in pocket most time like me, regularly take it out and clean any lint or dust thats accumulating in the gaps especially near pivot. you never know when you need that knife to open with one hand and lock itself safely. dirty knives are as bad as blunt knives. neither are safe to use nor good for its longivity.
Lots of things and variables to consider, I've noticed in my window shopping and trend following that people are pulling back from fixed blades in lieu of folding knives, again for many reasons, one example being legalities, even if they are legal, it may threaten social norms, etiquette and decorum established in a certain region, example my area, fixed blades are legal but I'd be harassed and hassled in most places I may go with a fixed blade worn outwardly, and passed a certain inch it becomes a concealed dirk and dagger if pocketed. Most people here carry folding knives. Ive seen that over the years of carrying everything, about 99% of what i use a knife for can be fulfilled with a folding knife, But That's just me
