The guy in the white is Bobby Debarge the older brother of El Debarge. Bobby was a muscial beast he sadly passed away. The other lead is Phillip Ingram the brother of James Ingram.
I’m sure somebody already said it but they don’t make songs like this anymore. Actual love songs are so rare these days. So glad you appreciate this classic!!❤
I used to love this song, it's what we used to call a slow dance song..I've been listening to this song again lately...I remember when this song came out I am 63 yrs old now and it still gets to me.😊
When this album came out, my sister, cousin and I literally ran to our local record store and brought the album. We ate, slept, went to school and took this album Everywhere we went for months. Played it on our stereo Religiously and then....met them along with Jermaine Jackson, who was their manager at the time, at the same local record shop. Got our album autographed and even had great conversations. One of Thee Best days of my life.❤❤❤❤❤
Many of the guys was handsome guys back in our day. They didn't wear those extremely skinny jeans either. Lol! Those guys had real talent. Romance music was so amazing until 2000.
Baby when you see grandma get on your knees and tell her you love her and you thanking the lord for her. Because if it wasn't for her listening to this kind of music. You wouldn't have been in this world.
If you get the chance, check out Switch - There'll Never Be (1978). The other part of this video... They also have a song named I Call Your Name which has been sampled by so many artist.
The first vocalist is James Ingram's baby brother. Who was James Ingram? 100 Ways; Immo Be There w/Michael McDonald; Baby Come to Me w/ Patty Austin .. . The 2nd vocalist and the guy on base are the brothers of El Debarge. The 2nd vocalist is deceased.
You enjoyed that. Good! Have a reaction to their other hits: There'll Never Be, I Call Your Name and Love Over And Over Again. Can't wait to see your reaction.
“Switch” because they were so multitalented they all could/did “switch” roles and instruments. First slow danced on this song at my 8th grade dance…nearly got in trouble. 🤣
Wow! Switch was an amazing group with great music. Bobby DeBarge easily one of the greatest voices in music R.I.P and his talented brother Tommy DeBarge R.I.P and the brother of the late great James Ingram R.I.P Philip Ingram who still is a great singer in his own right. Wasted talent, such a sad ending for Bobby DeBarge.
@@monicafranklin-nr1te No Mam, I totally disagree. These two guys were extremely talented, Bobby more so, but these guys sadly got strung out on drugs and because of that, Bobby ultimately passed away from full blown AIDS, and Tommy Passed away due to drug and alcohol abuse so yes, they wasted their God given talent, and unfortunately they weren't able to overcome their bad habits.
Brother Phillip Ingram can and still sings that tune wonderfully, he’s tremendously talented. And Bobby Debarge is missed tremendously and absolutely one of the all time best R&B vocalists
I was married for 38 years until my wife left to go be with the lord. She had a fresh cut red rose every single day for 38 years. That's how we, Switch, The Stylistics, The Temps, All the groups back in the day, way before you were born, got down. Thanks for reacting to my music.
That is absolutely beautiful 😍 I am sorry for your loss but I am happy God allowed you to find your person and share that precious love for 38 years !!! 🥰🥰💕
My first time listening to switch was by accident I will never forget it happened earlier this year and Bobby DeBarge voice has helped me for real and I thank the lord for this
"Walk Away From Love" by David Ruffin is also a virtuoso vocal performance, Ashley. There are so many great vocalists that we will grateful to listen to.
This was my group back in high school! I saw them in concert back then. All the men were jealous and wouldn't let their women react to them. Fortunately, there were plenty of single women there who were able to act a fool!😂
Bobby DeBarge was my first real crush back in the late 70's. Switch music was really great music. The new generation may not like it but, I'll never stop loving Switch music from the 70's and 80's.
Fun fact: Robert Louis DeBarge Jr. (March 5, 1956 - August 16, 1995) was an American musician. He was the lead singer of the Motown R&B/soul vocal group Switch and was noted for his falsetto vocals.
Another group from OHIO !! I use to see TNT FLASHERS all the time in Mansfield, ohio, and the Cleveland area. They put Bobby Debarge with TNT FLASHERS in Mansfield and they first recorded there. Turned out to be a classy, classic group from BACK IN THE DAY !!! ❤😅 ❤
Lead singers Phillip Ingram(younger brother of the late James Ingram), Bobby DeBarge(eldest DeBarge Brother (El's eldest brother) RIP). Bassist Tommy DeBarge (RIP)
I've watched several of your reactions between Switch, The Manhattans etc. Your taste is impeccable. It's so refreshing to see another young person like myself with an old soul. Keep doing your thing! Please react to Deba Laws - Vey Special and Joe Simon - Before the Night is Over. Your welcome in advance lol. Take care.
I’m 70, and was in love with a Wonderful Real Man!!! We Sang these Lyrics Together, in our Sun- Roof Top, White Gran Prix, just loving Life and Each Other!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ He looked like Phillip Ingram!! 🎉🎉🎉
That group came out when I was 14. I had a major crush on Philip Ingram. That group was the bomb long before that phrase was popular, beautiful musicianship, beautiful harmony, nit to mention good looks. That song was my jam. Classics never die. The first album was bad.
Ashley, this was some surnuf baby making music from back in the day. And there was a lot of it.😁 We would be slow dancing to tracks like this. That falsetto voice you're loving is Bobby Debarge. To hear more of that check out I Call Your Name, and There'll Never Be. Also Bobby and his siblings make up the group Debarge. And they put out some great music like Rythm of the Night, I Like It, All This Love, Time Will Reveal, and Who's Holding Donna Now? And your grandma definitely knows this music😂 She can certainly suggest a few songs for you 😊
You touched every base on this comment of yours. Another family music recording group that was on "Unsung" is The Sylvers. Their story also has family members that are tragic. Both DeBarge and The Sylvers should have been as successful as The Jackson family. I guess that Michael Jackson being the only one to destroy himself in his family are pretty good reasons to give them more of the spotlight. I don't know if La Toya Jackson qualifies as being self destructive. She just seemed to have committed embarrassing media attracting actions.
@@martyemmons1859 Thanks, I appreciate it! And your comments were on point as well. And those "Unsung" stories were really eye opening to the tragedies of so many artists. It gave so much insight into their lives that we never new.
Live music and performances were the standard back then. You had to sound amazing without computers and programming. You either had it... or you don't. I grew up in the late sixties, seventies and early 80's. Best music ever. I'm from Motown ( Detroit) Music was like.... everything

Michael Jackson's older brother Jermaine Jackson found and promoted this singing group. The second singer with the white jacket on and the rose on the lapel of his jacket is the older brother of the singing group DeBarge. One of his younger brothers in the singing group DeBarge used to date Michael Jackson's younger sister Janet Jackson. They had a beautiful black mother with a white father. The debarges told their family story. and they said thatTheir white father suffered constant racism from his own people because he had a black family. That second singer, the oldest brother of the singing group DeBarge's father beat him so brutally as a child, the older brother immersed himself in drugs until it killed him as an adult. Because they're white father had half black children and a black wife, when he worked at certain jobs and his white bosses found out, they would fire him. so he blamed his black family for it. he would come home and beat up his family and take it out on them. and also at least one other sibling in the singing group DeBarge also died from drug use because of the long history of abuse as children from their father who also beat their mother constantly.
White suit jacket is Bobby DeBarge. Oldest brother to El DeBarge. Died 1995 of H.I.V. Lead guitarist is his brother Tommy Debarge... deceased As well. The other lead singer of this song is the younger brother to a famous singer as well...
