As someone that is of the “Freaknik” generation and ‘90s hip hop and r&b generation, I have to admit that the soul music of the the “70s and early to late ‘80s is (in my opinion) the best MUSIC. Live instruments, vocals, and lyrics that bared their souls without cursing and being disrespectful towards our women and people.
Ashley: I'm a 77- year-old white woman who's just become one of your greatest fans. Watching your reactions takes me back to when I listened and danced to this music as a young woman - pure joy.
Her stanky face cracks me up. I fit your description too and I was (and still am) mesmerized by the O'Jays and ALL this great music that came out starting with the 60s, the O'Jays being one of my favorites. I love me some Eddie Levert!!!! This stuff is the songbook of my life....still cuz here I am on 3/24/24.
Young lady!! Back in those days and times we as Men took pride and respect and enjoyment in loving and telling the women we love how we felt in good times and Bad times ❤
Ms. Ashley the gentleman doing the story telling is Mr. Eddie Levert, the father of the late Gerald and Sean Levert. The other gentleman is Mr. Walter Williams and this song was done in 1978. These legendary brothers mastered the art of performing because they believed in giving the people what they wanted. O'jays for life.
This was back when music was really music. When someone is touched by the word's or melody or both then you pretty much knew that it was a beautiful thing.
This is grown folks music. Back in the 70's, 80's and 90's I saw them at live in person concerts. Back in the day, all the groups came through live every summer and we went to concerts and saw everyone. They were great live. That's Eddie LaVert and Walter Williams doing the leads.
I get chills every time I hear this song. Classic sounds and they are not calling their women bitches! Songs that go deep to the soul! Thank you Ashley for your reactions.
Great reaction. Ashley, that open mouth when Eddie Lavert came in, said it all. Yes,young lady the mighty OJAYS, one of the best r&b group of the 70's. Please Ashley go down that rabbit hole. "Stairway to Heaven, "You Got Your Hooks in Me, etc. I love watching our young people when they first get a taste of our music....back in the day. Real singing, real talent, real music. Enjoy Ashley. ❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥
I can tell by the stink face reaction that you are a old soul. You need to keep reacting to old school R&B music. It’s good for your soul and you can help spread the word to your generation. 👍🏾
The O'Jays are an American R&B group formed in 1958. They had a lot of great songs such as "Love Train", "Back Stabbers", "Give The People What They Want", "Put Your Hands Together", "For The Love Of Money", "Let Me Make Love To You", "I Love Music", "Livin' For The Weekend", "Message In Our Music", "Darlin' Darlin' Baby (Sweet Tender Love)", "Use Ta Be My Girl" etc.
One may also notice that back during “Ole School” times was when women was more respected. They made songs that cherished women. They did not make songs calling women the “B” word or the “W” word.
See.... what is REALLY happening when you do reactions is : you're getting a very strong EDUCATION about REAL MUSIC...by REAL singers and musicians from the blessed 70s era.... I'm taking SOUL MUSIC. It's really good to see someone your age getting exposed to some of the absolute BEST music ever made from a glorious era : 70's SOUL. Enjoy the journey, young lady. ❤️👍🏿😊
nothing but classic stuff here....stuff that gives you the chills when you listen....it touches the essence of you..your soul....smh....really the only way to explain it....the younger generation needs this......
Just a classic!!👍🏿✊🏿🔥 I love your reaction to Eddie Levert, the first gentleman telling the story, and then the raspy voice. Look him up and his son Gerald Levert. Also, look up the group Levert. They were an 90s R&B group.
I grew up listening to the O'Jays! But you're legit Ms. Ashley! This song has so much depth and passion and it makes sense! Lol! Definitely a grown folks song! Thanks for reacting to this classic!
The O’Jay’s as so many other Groups and Songs from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s were so Heart felt they were about Love and Happiness ! I wouldn’t trade those songs for anything ! Keep on Enjoying the Music !
The look on your face @3:08 through @3:22 ... the look of admiration for the gift that is The O'Jays. It was a joy to watch you have joy watching them.
The black man is mesmerizing 😊 I just wish today's men where the same. The 70's was the best of times, and I was Born in 69. I remember my mom and dad dancing to songs like this. They where married 54 yrs. RIP MOM AND DAD. DAMN IM IN YEARS
Oh, stop it. That’s all they did. Was talk about sex back in your day. I guess things like sleeping with people up the street or having outside families will be overlooked.
@@MoorThreads Of course they talked about sex back in the day and no one said they didn't sneak up the street or outside families. They didn't say it the way it's being said today. That's all.
We were spoiled with great music back then. Saturday mornings started with cartoons and then American Bandstand followed by Soul Train. I used to love Saturdays! I raised my kids in this music so they know it and they saw me and my wife listen to this and as a black man I ain't scared to show my love and my fillings to my wife of 36 years and I loved my kids all 4 of them lol
That's Walter Williams alright. Such a sweetheart. Love him to the moon and back. Class is class. Love the group baaaad. Go Eddie. ❤❤❤❤ The mighty O'Jays. 🎵🎵🎵
This era of music expresses the inner soul that we had as a people which I feel has been corrupted and lost in this current lost state that we find ourselves in. We are not the same. We no longer love each other 😢
The first time I discovered this song is when Nas and AZ dropped "Mo' Money, Mo' Murda." They sampled this song for the beat and I went looking for it. I've been loving this song ever since.
Ashley, I'm 64 yrs. young! And you are every bit like my oldest granddaughter. I just love you on this channel. Yes, men didn't mind crying with their lady! You keep doing your thing!

Walter Williams came into my office, and I asked him to say, "I like what you like,'cause it's you, I'm thinking 'bout pleasing." He did and continued to do it for the entire time they were in town. Young lady!! Back in those days and times we as Men took pride and respect and enjoyment in loving and telling the women we love how we felt in good times and Bad times ❤
Horrible now
YES!❤
Men knew how to talk to women and be real honest about their feelings.
I'm 65. Looking at these young guys between 20 and 45, they act feminine as hell. Crazy times
We still do. You gotta be the worth it though nobody's treating a disrespectful woman like a prize 💯
That's why they were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
Very deservedly 🎉

"Said we cried, cried, cried, we cried together!" It's really clever how the song writers incorporated his voice to cry right there.

I am 65 years old, and I love your reaction to what we call "Grown Folks Music"!
Their different vocal tones feeding off each other i think is what made them so great
Ashley, you’re so right with this one. It was definitely on the playlist. This might have been their best song for this great grandma and still is.
That was so sweet those days are long gone
Real music back then
Such a beautiful song I love this music you'll cry with them listening to it, and you don't you just ain't human
The Speech! That’s what’s missing in today’s R&B. The speech! The deep voice talking to his woman
LOL... Your face when Eddie Levert hit that second verse....priceless!
This is the REAL reason GRANDMA HAS 22 KIDS..😅😅😊❤❤❤❤
It's the message, the words, the harmony..... We grew up with this and it's absolutely beautiful.... Absolutely
