What a tribute to the Miami Showband by Eric Faulkner. Great lyrics, what a story. Eric seems to be deep thoughtful thinker, and that comes out in all his lyrics. Positive thoughts to him that he heals up soon. We miss his gigs and his own songs. God Bless!
I remember reading about this back in 1975. I was still a very young kid then, but it moved me so much I couldn't ever forget it. I also was a fan of BCR at the same time. It's great that the Miami Showband is still remembered by a lot of people...nice tribute.
Thank you for posting this, we need to hear these tragic stories to keep their memory alive. Eric performed a touching tribute...........this is the reason I admire him so much, he is a wonderful singer of these kinds of songs
Very tragic story. :( Sitting here myself with my boyfriend who plays guitar in a band himself. We're really feeling the pain. Rest in Peace band members of Miami Showband. God Bless Eric Faulkner for sharing this.
Eric, so sorry to you & the lads for the loss of your friends, in such a brutal manner. Of all the boys, you are the only one I heard talk about this horrible day & I can see the effect this has on you. I have a beautiful picture of you & the boys with Fran. You all look so happy. Who could have seen what was to come. I have been friends with Fran's sister for years before she passed 2 years ago. I still talk with Des & have had Stephen on my friends list before this whole court thing started. They are much like you, Eric..sweet, kind humble & still beautiful, all traumatized for life. Thank you, dearest Eric for writing & performing this lovely tribute to the Lads. We will never forget. Sending you lots of love & hugs from Canada.
I knew the band personally and it was an immense shock when the lads from the Miami were killed. The music industry in Ireland took a great knock and the life on the road for many bands practically ended. R.I.P Fran, Brian & Tony.
Eric Faulkner wow such an interesting history apparently with much on his mind during all of the Roller hey days, a very deep thinker and most likely a complex person .God bless .
Thanks to mightyfrogfilms for this, I remember the Miami showband tragedy so well, living in Ireland as I was at the time, Stephen travers the bass player has written a book about this incident, I have just finished reading it,it is some read...
Hey, let's see how you look 20 years from today, if you are still alive by then. Listen to the song, the poignancy , the powerful message, the sacrifice that was made. Think more deeply. You are given a head.
this is a great song but I wonder why he didn't sing "many a band travelled that way, some of them never came home", instead of "many a band travelled that way, some of them never came back". I think that home rhymes with road better than back rhymes with road.
I wish some people will think deeper. All they can do is just make nasty comments about how other people look. Let's see how they look 20 years from today. This song is so poignant, and I hope those young men didn't die for nothing. They were killed so mercilessly. Think of the message in this song and stop commeting on how Eric looks before loking at yourself in the mirror.
ALSO since at least two of the men who murdered the Showband were British soldiers, I think it is fair to say the British Army killed them, in collaboration with Protestant terrorists.
In response to jayneee49 s comment. It was nt the IRA who shot dead the miami showband. you say you remember the events well. You quiet clearly did not read the history books yourself. It was the UVF ,The Ulster Volunteer Force. They admitted this and soon afterwards three of them were convicted and imprisoned for the murders. So please next time you want to comment on Irish history,at least know the facts.Eric Faulkner clearly gives before the song.
He looks a lot like Jimmy Page I think. Well....modern day Jimmy Page. Nobody is going to the same as they did in their hay day. Not everyone goes under the knife. Eric is one of them I guess. Society just now has an expectation that aged celebs are going to look good.
Eric you need to do more videos of singing and playing the accoustic guitar today
One of the most touching songs I've ever heard--made me cry..another great job from you Eric!
I have been in love with this man since I was 13(he was 19 at the time)and I would not kick him out of bed now. Great talent. Keep on rollin Eric.

Eric is not only an excellent writer and performer, he also shows great courage and sensitivity in writing this lovely song!

This is extremely well filmed and it was interesting yet so sad to read about the tragedy.
Lord...Amen to that! I'm pleased that he still has his voice. Saw BCR in Philly in 1977. Nice to see that he's gone back to his roots.
I wish i could have been there!! Thank you for sharing this, Judy!!!!
Wow very powerful. I never knew the details of this sad story. Thanks for sharing it,

Let me say this unequivocally: THE IRA DID NOT HURT THE MIAMI SHOWBAND. The UVF AND THE BRITISH ARMY DID!
100% true, the UVF was the terrorist wing of the British army, worse than the black and tans.
He looks a lot like Jimmy Page I think. Well....modern day Jimmy Page.

Christing fuck, he's IMMENSE.
But it was the UVF..sorry.
