I hate gatcha games I think they are part of the reason why the industry is toxic. that being said the reason why these users are so upset is because the characters ARE an investment and the NTR incident was a BETRAYLE of said investment. Imagine if your playing a game where you have this 5 tier soldier in a ww2 simulator that wins your battles for you and what not. Only to turn around and join hitlers regime permanently leaving your roster, you would be pretty upset and betrayed especially when you put REAL MONEY into that soldier.

In China many TV shows, movies, etc portray relationships in a way that's veeeery restrictive. So even in a case where say another female character apart from the female MC starts pining for the love interest that female character will then get a lot of hate. It's just how it is. Guess it doesn't help that Raymond apparantly also confessed his love to her in a letter and how she also reminded him of his Mom when she sung a song on the piano. She never rejected him, just sent him the song he knows he loves about her. Which, honestly really could jusy be her being nice. No biggie as far as global is concerned, but for CN the fact that we're only able to give a "maybe it's not actually like that" is the inherent problem. Gacha games are also usually just waifu games. Same with GF1 and 2. Whole game's cooked up around building a parasocial bond with your fav 2D pixels. You've already got a pretty specific kinda audience that wouldn't be the most mentally sound or reasonable. Doubled with the fact they're built from Chinese culture's values on relationships doesn't help at all. Apparently a lot of the dolls kinda just act cold to the commander too when the time skip happens idk. Doesn't matter. Point is that the Chinese fans blew things out of proportion, but the GF2 devs really should've known the audience that they'd built over the years better. Some complaints here and there via emails or something about the ambiguity of the relationship and how much the character seems to be on Type95's mind in a very intimate way would suffice. Devs come in and maybe patch it up. Make it come off more platonic or just cut down on the Raymond dialogue lines or maybe just double down and make a full NTR plotline lol Anyways an actual Type95 x Raymond NTR doujin does exist. Search it up.
