Steam locomotives and boats (not just steamboats) as well as diesel locomotives are some of the few human-made machines that sound like they have a soul. If you didn’t know better, you’d probably think they are alive, and not just based on the sounds they make but also the incredible amount of heat they give off.
They need to breathe, eat, and drink water. They move, are warm to the touch, and their roar is heard for miles.
They pant when they work hard, and breathe easy when the gradient is with them.
That all sounds like stuff that lives to me.
@@Shadowwandonly issue is that they don’t reproduce and can’t maintain homeostasis

I gotta say: steam whistles are cool during the day, but when you hear it at around 3 am it is one of the scariest things ever.
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA
There's nothing quite like a steam whistle piercing and echoing through the stillness and calm of the night air.
That is the sound of these old trains singing an old time song. A song of their own.
Tofsrud Cubing 2007 thats right
They’re so loud too and meaningful
3:53 to 4:09 is pure cinema. Absolutely stunning!
Killian Whitelock thank you so much! Really appreciate the kind words!
@Albentastic Productions Imagine if 1218 was running on Strasburg tracks if it got restored again, it would be cool and creepy to hear a forgotten beast at dusk
29:49 woooow that one sounds absolutely wonderful.
One of my favorites as well
gotta love the 482
We rode that train July 4th, spectacular view. Nice and cool, with afternoon light rain.
113 was lovely. Hearing that deep whistle while the mean chuffing is music
Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed.
11:27 really shows how big these things are
you got that right
a lot of people don't realize just how tall ~16 feet is until they see it from a perspective like that
The mere memories of these old gals still sharing their beautiful voices in echoes of steam
Truly the best form of music there is!
Imagine being in forest and not knowing that there's a live train track and then suddenly you hear the sound at 7:08
I live in Washington State, and there's a part of the eastern cascades where I didn't even know there was a railroad. Creepy as hell just hearing a diesel locomotive.
The whistle which starts at 16:00 is definitely my favorite in this video.
Dodge Dude 06 yea, it’s pretty good.
@@MPT_Productions great video btw!
Dodge Dude 06 thank you!
@@MPT_Productions np
Favorite part was from 0:00 to 30:52
Thank you! I appreciate that!
18:55-19:38- THIS is where I wish to move to!!!!!! That little place on the right side of the tracks & as close to the crossing as possible. Family says that I'm NUTS!!! I LOVE steam locomotives & their sounds. Those sounds, especially the multi-chime whistles, can lull me to sleep!
There are 2 railroad crossings of the Susquehanna (freight line only) Railroad within 2 blocks of my present home, but NO steam engines!! I was born in '58 & steam was already replaced by diesels here in northern NJ- I believe in '56, so I missed out on the chuff &, of course, the beautiful whistles!
I live 50ft in front of a diesel electric railway. Not the same as steam, but man is it awesome.
I could listen to these steam whistles all day. Thank you for sharing.
Gfw Trains we all could. Thank you
NKP 765s whistle sounds cooler when it's worn out, weird to say 🎶
Wolff von Roos it’s not worn out... just tuned different. I agree, it sounded better this year.
@@MPT_Productions My Dad lived just a block from the NYC Niagara Branch in the 1930's. He said he got so he knew not only when certain engines came thru by the whistle, but also certain Engineers.
@@b3j8 yeah. Crazy how you can tell an engine based on the whistle
Think it was foaming, the cylinder clocks opening up was a good indication.
@@pauljones2762 Which engine and where on the vid time coded?
90’s whistle sounds great as usual. Great comp!
ALW Productions yup I think so too. Thank you!
Reading 6 chime is still a favorite. Would have been great back in the day to listen to Reading Pacifics passing in the night w/those whistles!
It would be. 90’s whistle in particular was used on 2100 during the rambles
I’m in Florida.
Also, amazing video as always, Markinator.
Thank you!
MPT 1225 no problem!
You're probably close to US Sugar 148 & soon ACL 1504, which will hopefully be restored soon.
25:13 489 has the best whistle
Ford Lover it is a very good whistle
MPT 1225 yep. That Atsf 6 chime just has a deep manly sound to it lol
Ford Lover agreed. Sounds awesome
Your framework is amazing, some of these shots make me feel like I've transported back in time.
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Great video. They are great steam locomotive whistles.
Thank you! I agree.
Those Norfolk shots were the best ones i’ve ever seen, what a beauty.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
The train whistle left a strong impression on my childhood. from Vietnam thank you and support you
Everyone: Steam whistles are so loud!
Me: *listens to them to help me sleep*
I listen to them while studying lol.
@@MPT_Productions Awesome!
Steam whistles are 100-120dB loud possible for a ruptured eardrum.
Something about a steam locomotive, a steam whistle, and that chugging coming from the distance... Eerie, yet satisfying. And along with that heavy bell and billowing smoke stacks...
Wow these steam engine whistles are so awesome great video!
USS45RailFanProductions Thank you!!
Wow, that is such a wonderful sound.
Indeed they are.
Awesome video! 👍👍
Thank you, Dennis!
Awesome video MPT 1225!
Thank you!
These trains never get old💀 so satisfying
this video is great and the Steam Whistle's are like music to my ears so keep up the fantastic work good sir.
Thank you very much, Brenden! Glad you enjoyed
@@MPT_Productions I thoroughly enjoyed it very much. I have a soft spot in my heart for steam locomotives whistles.
@@brendenkennedy4304 me too. Very happy to hear.
2:52 is perfect. the echo, that whistle is just awesome
It is a very nice whistle.
Steam locomotive are one of the best locomotives ever built and they still is to this day. I'm a big big fan of steam locomotives.
Indeed they are
They are powerful too, and it’s hard to ignore their pulling power, despite being expensive to maintain in todays world
Awesome video man!
Thank you, Nick!
The amazing sound of a train always fills me with joy ☺☺
Glad you enjoyed
thanks for Sharing this video ❤💐
You're welcome!
Not a foamer but the sound of a steam whistle always excites me.
I love strasburg railroad 90 reading 6 chime and Durango and Silverton 476 and 486 whistles. 👍👍 Five stars ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!
You're welcome! 🙂
the last 2 engines in this video is something to listen love the horn on the 484.
me too
Can't believe I just found this video, it is so stunning how you capture the whole essence of steam trains! My favorite moments are 0:00 to 30:52!
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed!
Also loved reading and northern blue mountain locomotive 425 whistle.
Nice
At 29:08, the fireman is operating the blowdown to vent sediments and possibly overly high water from the boiler...short giant whoosing sounds. What loco and whistle? The engine never becomes visible. And the whistle's a nice one, apparently a 5 chime. Thanks!
Engine is visible on the right side of the frame. Durango & Silverton 486 with a D&RGW 5 Chime. Very nice whistle indeed
Love it!
Thanks, Casey!
Very Nice
thank you
Music to my ears I feel like a kid all over again 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Glad you enjoyed!
Great Compilation!! Also, Second!!!
Thank You!
مناظر خلابة ورائعة جدا سبحان الخالق المبدع ما اعظمه
مع صوت القطار البخاري الذي اضفى رونقا وبهاءا وسط الغابة وجمالها ❤
I Love the Durango and Silverton trains near the end of the video. especially the shot where its blowing all of its steam off and you can hear the distant CUUSHHHHHHHHHH.......... CUSHHHHHHHHHHH
The quality of these videos look like some sort of film!
Thank you!! Glad you like them!
I like this 👌🤠
Glad you enjoyed!
very very beautiful machines
Yes they are.
@MPT_Productions
thank you for your reply
@@MarkJohnson-ww5hx you’re welcome
@MPT_Productions I've always liked steam trains more to the point steam engines. I've always been fasinated by them. but I know that there just basically a gaint steam kettle on wheels but to me the inner workings is what really gets me.
Music to my ears the sounds of steam whistles echoing. The call of the steam engine.
Yep!
Hopefully Volume 2 will be coming out soon! Featuring WM 1309, Reading 2100, R&N 2102, SP 4449, UP 844, US Sugar 148, EBT steamers once back in operation, and many others!
Maybe someday!
Trains horns iconic whistle!!!!
1:24 now thats what were talkin’ about
Glad you enjoyed
Sing for me Bertha. Sing for me. Loud and proud. Sing to me your rhythmic huff chuff huff chuff. Sing to me your melodic whistle. Show your new kin what a real beauty is.
I don’t know what it is about these old girls. They just have a beauty to them that the new ones could never hold. The new ones just have a low rumble to them and an ear shattering horn. Other than the wheels, there isn’t anything moving to captivate you. And they are all so bland. They all look the same, aside from the paint scheme for each railroad they operate for.
I love hearing that huff chuff huff chuff, The chug chug chug chug, Or the chuga luga chuga luga, of the old ones. To be mesmerized by the pistons and all of the mechanical workings of a steam locomotive.
8:32 ahh 3 chimes my favorite
6 Chimes are my favorites
Yeah i love 6 chimes along with 3 chimes just prefer 3 over 6 but they are both really good sounding
D-ManTheMan22 D yep. Both are good
I really love Strasburg/ Great Western 90’s whistle
i do too.
Durango and Silverton 473 wears a Rio Grande 3-chime whistle.
Jason Feldman yes you are right. Typo on my part. Thanks for the correction
actually according to the D&S themselves 473 has a custom made three chime
Michael Prince which is a D&RGW 3 Chime
My favorite whistle is the 611's and I hope to see it run on the mainline again because Mr. Know all about trains stopped her from running.
Chris Davis it is a favorite of mine too. I really hope it runs mainline trips again as well.
Chris Davis I’m from Australia so I’m not sure who your referring to, can you elaborate
@@cozmoandfriends9238 sorry it is amtrak's president Richard Anderson Luckily he got fired
Man the one around 5:00 the colors wow
Thank you!
I can’t imagine how scary it would be if you were an animal and you heard this for the first time
Imagine you was an indjun on the plains and you stumble across these weird tracks something you never seen before then huffing and puffing sounds like nothing you ever heard before then the whistle pieces the air the ground starts shaking and suddenly this fire breathing monster comes roaring towards you
This and the spitfire Merlin o man
4:31 gets me fucking shaking. Absolutely beautiful.
Nice Compilation! I thought 11 had a Nathan 5 Chime tho
Thanks Joe! I was guessing. It doesn't sound like other Nathan 5 Chimes I've heard, but I'm not sure.
I believe 11's whistle is a D&RGW 5-chime.
Jason Feldman Very well could be a replica. Doesn’t look or sound like an authentic one, but could be a replica. Not sure. Next time I’m there I’ll have to ask
The golden age of trains
482’s Powell 3 Chime is an instant nut
It does not have the smoothest sound you'd expect from a Powell. Would've expected a little nicer sound.
It sounds a little worn to me
My brain cannot process 1218’s hooter whistle producing a pitch anything other than an f sharp note.
True
This is a really excellent video ! If you don't mind me asking, what camera do you use ?
Thank you very much! This was filmed on a Canon EOS 80D
21:47 D&RGW K-27 463 is pushing the rotary
Aussie whistles are the best
I really like the 5 chimes
22:17 is that the loading scene from roller coaster tycoon 2?
Lonely like the wolf. Sound of America...
Indeed
would love to ride one of those old steam trains
I'd say a good percentage of the states in the US have at least one operating steam locomotive. You can probably find one in your region if you look one up online
@@MPT_Productions thanks and if you love these old trains look up some books about the Calif Zephyr by Janet Dawson she wrote a series of mysteries on board them solved by a Zepheritte
@@MPT_Productions Yup. And the old girl I adore is Sierra #3 here in California. I go see her whenever I can.
29:25 my favorite whistle of the whole video!

My favorite type of train is steam
Same here
I noticed that 482's whistle sounds different.
Yes, that is because it is wearing a Powell 3 Chime as opposed to a D&RGW 5 Chime which it used to wear.
And I forgotten about New Hope and ivy land 40 whistle.
Cool
Aw 611 is smiling at 90
Ah 30 minutes of whistles

20:39 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Would anyone happen to know the location displayed at 2:00?
The Carpenters Graveyard on the Strasburg Railroad.
I used my v recorder for the whistles that I loved in the video.
If you don't mind do you?
@@Thomasboi01 as long as you just keep it for personal reasons and don’t distribute it to anyone or claim it’s yours I don’t see an issue. If you do use it for something please just credit me and link the video
That's why I put read description and say 'I don't own anything this belongs to it's rightful owner". Maybe you can look at my UA-cam channel I got a lot of Cool railroad stuff on there.
Also if you owned a railroad what locomotives would you use? Steam or diesels?
Uh..... I kinda forgotten about that part.
Just blowing off steam....nothing to get exited about.
At 29:49 I heard this same exact whistle on a cartoon
