The way you talk about these characters makes me love them so much. Your passion is contagious. Lord Huron was already my favorite band (or maybe just favorite thing in general) and you’re just fueling that fire I’ve always theorized Huron killed a suitor or husband of Helena’s who was cruel to her. He did whatever he did to prove his love for her (I wanted everyone to know you’re the girl for me) and the band seems to be fond of fighting for someone’s hand (like in Fool for Love, I know it’s not from the same album but it fits well). I never thought to connect it to Setting Sun before! Maybe ‘In The Wind’ is from Helena’s perspective where everyone is consoling her because someone they thought someone she loved died but she knows her true love, Huron, is still out there somewhere.
When I was a smaller kid, my dad would listen to the Lonesome Dreams album every time we would go through the desert in Arizona to see family. It wasn't until I became a teen when I started to LOVE all of the music they made.
I had always viewed Setting Sun (my personal favorite LH song) in largely a vacuum. I had viewed it as coming from Huron himself and that upon finding out that Helena had moved on from him after he returned (following In the Wind) and he ultimately offs himself upon being cucked so hard and that the "Setting Sun" was his life. That being said, your explanation actually makes a fair bit of sense and would result in it tying into the album as a whole much better than what I had initially envisioned as the meaning behind the song.
Love the video, my dude. The thing that stuck out to me most is the conclusion about Setting Sun being sung by a different character altogether. Upon hearing it, my initial impulse said "this sounds nothing like Huron", and your theory makes a hell of a lot of sense to me. I hope you do something similar for Strange Trails and Vide Noir!
I very much appreciate you saying this, thank you for watching. I’m glad the Setting Sun theory had resonated with you and other folks. Also on Strange Trails and Vide Noir..... See you in a week or two : ^ )
I became absolutely infatuated by Lord Huron (the greatest band in the cosmos) about 4 years ago. Thank you so much for this video, I love it. Setting Sun has got to be one of the greatest songs in the storyline of this album, and the choice to make it a bonus track seems super fitting, making it a hidden jewel for true fans to dig and discover, making it all the more rewarding. Personally, I think it is sung by Huron himself, and think Helena began to lose interest with him while he was off on an adventure, only for him to return to discover she had sought out another man in his absence. I come to this conclusion because it sounds like Helena is choosing to seek out the other man, and Huron is furious with both of them, though still loves and cherishes Helena. That final line of that song is one of the most haunting lines in music- "So I'll be taking a life this evening when the sun sets." He never says whose life, indicating that he's either going to cut down the other man (which the rest of the songs indicate he did) or alternatively, kill himself out of sorrow that his beloved has left him when he was out adventuring. This uncertainty in what he is about to do shows the raw emotion he experiences and the passion by which his life is guided, which is one of the reasons I think this voice fits Huron's character.
I just bought the LP of Lonesome Dreams and started looking for reviews for validation but then I found your video. My appreciation for Lord Huron has just gotten a lot deeper. Thanks, man.
you won’t remember me but I was in elementary school when you were in high school. I won’t say what school but Mr. bell still said good things about you after you graduated. it was crazy to unknowingly stumble onto your channel for the same passion for Lord Huron and it shocked me to find out that someone I knew had the same obsession. Keep doing what you are doing bro you’re awesome!!!
I enjoy your interpretation of this album. It gave me some ideas. I have a different take... of course. I study fandoms and human communication. I write about Lord Huron on my blog. They are my favorite band too. I am going to share your videos there. I shared it in some facebook groups earlier today too.
Im currently down a really deep lord huron rabbit hole and this is really fantastic. Also, the building in the beginning of the show isn't Frostburg State University is it? It really looks like it. Thats where i grew up. Either way thank you!
OKAY THIS VIDEO IS TWO YEARS OLD BUT I HAVE A THEORY AND ITS OOZING FR okay so i feel like the whole world ender thing and lonesome dreams are connected. i feel like the world ender thing is a curse that was unearthed by cobb avery a few decades after the events of lonesome dreams. there's a comment that huron killed a cruel suitor of helena's, and i do believe that is in fact true. (i've heard him called sonny for convenience). ok after sonny for convenience is cruel to helena, huron kills him because he's a fucking idiot. and subsequently, sonny for convenience comes back to life because i dunno man the huronverse is not a single smidgen of normal. and then he dies again, but his spirit lives on as the original world ender. this is proved by setting sun. i also believe, implie by the lyrics of setting sun, helena and huron were canoodling before, and huron just had to get rid of the middle man.
Awesome video! I love this theory about the album, my favorite one I’ve heard. Works so well with the songs and vibes, personally trying to figure out how the story portrayed in the music videos fit in, but then again hey maybe they don’t. The lord this band had created is wonderful and twisted and confusing
Well, that’s why there is about 3 minutes dedicated to that part of the video and the other 15 minutes are dedicated to discussing that. Hope you were able to find that part of the video enjoyable!

Idk man, I'd say they're pretty low on my list of bands, nothing special. Love your covers btw, great stuff!
thank you

This was truly awesome, thank you so much!
I want to create an album like this. I want to tell a story of fantasy adventure and triumph through music and fictional characters

this was awesome
Good job with this bro.
you know you on cobb avery's lore playlist
I just want an explanation of the story, not an introduction to a band I already know ;_________;
