Patch 252: Achatina, Megalosaurus, Moschops, Pachyrhinosaurus, New Caves and more!

- Thanksgiving is upon us and today, Patch 252 brings a feast of new content to ARK: Survival Evolved! New friends will be making an appearance as four new creatures will become available to discover and tame, including the slimy Achatina, nocturnal hunter Megalosaurus, harvesting-specialist Moschops and the pheromone-spewing Pachyrhinosaurus!
Patch 252 also introduces a vast redesign of the original caves on The Island. Bringing them up to par visually, as well as introducing more gameplay elements to acquiring those artefacts, seasoned explorers will want to give these a whirl as it is an entirely new experience with much to be unravelled!
Along with the launch of patch 252 comes even more content goodness:
ARK: Turkey Trial 2! New challenge and cosmetics! Earnable Emote! (this system also enables Mods to add more Emotes to the game!)
New Mechanic: Breeding Phase 3 with Random Mutations and Family Trees.
VFX Indicators for Whistle Commands: Move To, Attack, and Group-Selected Units.
Explorer Notes: Two new mythos Explorer Notes for each character
A huge increase in server performance
Whistle Ordering Groups! Create groups by class, or specific-dino!
New Whistle Type: "Move To", Attack, and Group-Selected Units.
Extra Option to "stream" in "Far" map sublevels, for large memory and performance gains (but reduced visual quality & draw distance).

With the Megalosaurus inclusion I feel like other dinos should start being able to have nest areas that they go to to rest at night or just have some A.I. so they do specific things... It's probably not going to happen because of limitations, but it'd be nice if it could happen. (Imagine herds of dinos instead of them just randomly roaming in certain areas of the map)
I think they are slowly getting to that, (its hard to see in servrs with most areas filled with players) direwolves, ankylos, trror birds, etc... already come in pack, an allosaurus have a build in mechanic to buff their packs and attack as one
EJBWolf Yea, they're getting there, especially with the Megalosaurus having time it likes to sleep. But there'd be a lot that went into making ALL of the creatures act more natural (based on what we would guess they acted like)

So...even though the dossier says the Pachyrhino is smaller and a lower tier tame than the trike they decided to do the exact opposite. Good to know they're still following the pattern of ignoring the "facts" they give us lol

That just kind of throws away the entire point of their existence though doesn't it? Especially when it lies about the role a creature is going to play in the game.
Or maybe an element of uncertainty? It'd be much more exciting to find out the dinosaurs are bigger than they thought, or turns out that a t rex has a super stomp (hypothetically) that wasn't in the dossier. It's more exciting in my opinion, leaves more to be discovered.
Something additional to the creature that wasn't shown on the dossier would be fine. Heck that'd even be awesome. Its when the info on it is blatantly contradicting it that I don't care for. Like the plesiosaur being listed as docile and the prey of the megalodon when they are aggro as heck and way stronger than the megalodon. Things like that are what irk me. Like how could the hypothetical researcher who makes these and obviously spends time observing and drawing the creatures be that wrong about so many of them?
Because he lives on an island with dinosaurs and prolly doesn't give a fuck anymore 😂 He prolly just gets molested by the monkeys anyways

Actually megalosaurus are op in night time. U can use them for night raids.i even killed a rex using a lvl 1 mega.
Fun fact:the snail’s paste can be collected from its inventory for those of you who are impatient

This is great and all, but the game REALLY NEEDS MORE OPTIMIZATION!
ok, so crash course for dummies (aka you)
you can either, a. put in all the stuff then optimize
or b. put stuff in, optimize, put more stuff in, have the stuff you just put in ruin what you optimized prior, so you haft to reoptimize what you already optimized, and take 2x longer at the end of the day

optimization is generally the last thing you do during game development and not during the alpha stage, else you end up doing nothing but optimization.
He makes complete sense, there going to optimize everything when there done, not optimize one thing after another after each patch
Just wanted to say that an other great thing which ark really needs are more achievements, also small achvs. like tamed the first dino, build the first house etc.. maybe even for every tamed or killed dino an achievement (like the dossiers in the past), this would be awesome if we could get some more, just an idea ;)

you do know that they have been adding small or medium optimizations thorugh different patches and is actually frequent with every mayor update they do right? its in the patch notes, and it generally adds up 20% or so of performance in defferent sections of the game

Just thought I'd let you Devs know that People are Angry about PVP Servers being able to transfer anything between servers saying Ark is Dead Now because You devs Have just gave Tribe murdering Alpha Trolls access to any Official server via the transfer anything function at the obelisks you guys just released. Please tell me if this problem will affect PVE servers too?

It will not affect PvE servers like it does the PvP. This is because you can only transfer between servers that are the same configuration, So PvE to PvE and PvP to PvP not between PvP and PvE.
The only affect you might see on PvE is that some new tribes or players may start on a PvE server with some stuff/Dinos that they brought over from another PvE server. Also, it will not allow you to transfer from Unofficial to Official or vice versa because there would be mega chaos then! :D
it is a problem, people will transfer something to PVE and will make metal pillar trolls, and mean stuff like that :(
PvP isn't up to Ark devs to babysit. unofficial servers can set restrictions, and frankly, if you're mad about alpha tribes, you shouldn't be going anywhere near the official servers.

With all the Dev kit videos I have seen, there are 9 creature that are fully textured, coloured and almost animated properly are(Electrophorus, Icthyornis, Iguanadon, Leedsicthys, Megatherium, Microraptor, Therizinosaurus,Troodon, (Giant Squid from stream) and ( that are textured and animated but not coloured are (Ammonite, Baryonyx, Basilosaurus, Cnidaria, Hesperornis, Liopleurodon, Megalania, Pegomastax and Purlovia)
Nicholas Sammon They save them so they can do more uptates and peapole have something to wait on. They also wait because if they would release all at the same time ark would get boring

I think the devs will start to select from 4 creatures for each update so we get the full game quicker. also I think the updates will be coming along quicker since how many creatures they have waiting to be released. By the way, I think the Cnidaria will be released with the underwater bases because it was in the concept art.

I Don't think we are going to see Primal Survival for a while because they need to do the visions for every creature in the game as well as unique nests and gameplay for each of them.
They did say that it would release by the end of 2016, so maybe around Christmas.

The december release os for PS4 and is not going to be missed actually, and also please notice this game has been in early acces for a year, while others with less content but with the ame suvival theme has 2 or more, also they had to pay a lawsuit and even so they STILL make content and optimizations constantly to the game, which has better graphics than some triple A games that are finished, a progression system, AI behavior for each creature based on ecosystems and variable enviroments, multiplayer, single player, building and exploration of 2 maps and procedural maps now and a 3rd(yeah dlc thats argueable) map that even with dlc is less money than any regular game around with half of these? so sincerely I wish it will always continue to deliver content
to all the people complaining about optimization issues: try simply lowering the settings, that's what I did and the game still looks decent and runs smoothly. the game runs slow because it's got so much stuff going on at the same time, so the only way they could do a universal optimization is to make the game look like garbage, that's probably why they haven't done any optimizations yet

No it doesn't get 60fps lol.... Ark om Xbox one only gets 30. If you read it up, the game goes as low as 10fps. Nobodies ark can be different.
It used to be 720p 30fps but it got an update a couple months ago that made it 1080p 60fps.
I think that what was being shown was more of an aura of power coming from the artifact

Blood Blossom Ark is a simulation, kinda like the matrix. Thats why you can die over and over without losing your character(aside for some pvp servers)

Awesome update but please, remove the cross ark transfer bullshit. I lost so many hours of work and a kibble tamed 140 spino which took weeks to find. This ruined the game and I don't to log on 1 day and see everything destroyed.
Cages for Dinos. that open when a trip wire is !TRIGGERD! would be cool for when people are invading your base. ive allways though of A.I tribe's like the King Kong cannibalistic ones in the movie. with spears, and bows, with Skulls on sticks as a warning when approaching there camps. Imagine , getting chased though the dark woods by them guys..would bring a bit of horror excitement to the game for sure. 💀😱

More caves!! We need more scorched earth caves!! Too bad most official island servers are so lagged out that venturing into these new caves will be an absolute rubbery circus of latency.
I Have a feeling the Ammonite and Megalania will be released together because Ammonite has materials you use and mix with other chemicals to make powerful concoctions, mainly antidotes against the most powerful poisons and illnesses. Megalania has a slow-acting, venomous bite which drains your stamina and health. I think the Ammonite and Megalania will be released together because if you put in a creature with a venomous bite that will kill you overtime into the game, you will need the source of the antidote as well to get rid of the poison if bitten. some of the info I found on their dossiers.

They really need to add sleeping dinos during the nighttime. it would be cool if some of them like the tapejara would sleep on a redwood tree or others just on the ground
It would be hard for Tapejara to do that since it needs to hold onto the trees without loosing grip when sleeping
