Patch 248: Procedurally Generated Maps, Kaprosuchus, Diplocaulus, Chalicotherium and more!

- The full ARK: Survival Evolved Update v248 features a broad spectrum of additions, including:
Procedurally Generated ARKs! Generate your very own totally unique, customized or randomized world! Players can determine a myriad of landscape options from the heights of mountains, depths of valleys, and the number of lakes, rivers or oceans, to the kinds of each biomes they want, and more!
The Kaprosuchus is a water-based carnivore primarily found among swamps and capable of high speed running on land or in water. Kapro is a solitary hunter that picks off small to medium creatures, especially those isolated from their packs.
The Chalicotherium, found in small numbers in colder regions, is a primitive creature with simple behaviors. It’s believed that Chalicotherium is best used as a trained mobile artillery, as its unique playtime habit delivers a devastating long-range assault tactic when it is given boulders to throw!
The Diplocaulus, at home mainly on the island's swamps, is a small amphibian residing at the middle-bottom of the ecosystem. The few uses for tamed Diplocaulus include the (rather disgusting) practice of employing it as an oxygen bag. Because Diplocaulus stores air in the bladders of its head, divers can suck from these bladders to take deep breaths while submerged, supporting long-term underwater exploration without the use of external gear.
The ARK “Explorer Note System” finds its way into both the main Island and ARK: Scorched Earth. Found within 130 treasure chests and available now, these chests contain the stories of actual inhabitants who have previously lived on the isle, as well as provide a temporary XP buff to those Survivors who collect them. These 3D Explorer and Story Notes are punctuated with powerful personalities from a Roman Centurion to an Ancient Chinese Warrior to an Egyptian Priestess, each one chronicling their experiences on ARK and unveiling kernels of the story secrets they have uncovered.
The update also includes the ability to directly wield your weapons when mount-riding smaller Dinos, as well as allowing those avid breeders to Neuter/Spay their Dinos!

Torno yea bro I still remember first playing this on hardcore for starters got recruited in a small group that turned to 15 plp we would take care of eachother good cuz hardcore you die you start from lvl 1. So was risky but fun nobody could be alone just Incase. Then fun ended when we got insided. Anyways was awsome times . Takecare man

I love the atmosphere Diplocaulus adds, not to mention its awesome air bladder thing.
I don't even know what to make of Chalicotherium except that those ears are too cute.
VSpoodle chalicotherium seems like one of those Dinos that is either very pretty or very ugly as seen in the trailer
chalico is your own personal artillery unit. keep in mind that unless you got scorched earth, this is the only tameable creature with a powerful projectile attack. be very happy :)

@@jeffbrownstain was a fantastic idea that was legit scrapped. Ark could be so much fun with randomly generated maps. They just didn’t want people to not play their dlcs tho. Easy solution could’ve been that u can’t add new biomes unless u buy the dlc that has those biomes.
Im actually happy this got in my recommended, simply reminding me of the good times I've had with the Kaprosuchus.

Isho GT Because Parasaurs are a relatively cheap tame to get, they have a lot of stamina and health if levelled correctly, so why not?
I need the Kaprosuchus in my life so bad! That leap looks nice. It'll be similar to Scorched Earth's mantis' ability.
Avan Wraithwood and if you pump a couple points in health weight and maybe 5 points into stamina and it will be the best all terrain speedy adventuring mount

Right click on Ark in ur Steam library then go 2 properties and in the general tab u should see a button called SET LAUNCH OPTIONS, that's where u paste the code -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -sm4 -d3d10 and click OK :)

I am definitely looking forward to taming the Kapro. FFS my greenhouse in the amphibian pen got wrecked by a raptor despite the plant x turrets. So having some of them waiting in ambush mode will be a welcome addition.

I love the addition of new animals. my only concern is over crowding. bad enough you can't walk 5 feet without walking into anything that wants to kill you. they need to balance how many are out and about at a time

I'm very disappointed that the Megalosaurus wasn't added. Instead, they kept the fucking Diplocaulus, which should have been delayed. You see Wildcard, when you make decisions, in this case being the creature that would get cut, you pick the most important one. The Megalo is a lot more important than a portable air sack.
Agreed, Wildcard makes the dumbest choices.
ToxicantFuture3 Well it's not that black and white. Sure the megalosaurus is a cool looking Dino but overall the Diplocaulus is a better choice to add. The game is all about diversity. What sounds more unique to ark, a totally new type of creature or another midsized carnivore that 99% of people will tame once to say they tamed the new creature then throw it away when they get a Spino or and Rex.
That's what it's for, Like the carno, It's meant to be a stepping stone to the super predators.

KrAff2010 I dunno man, a creature that is a night carnivore sounds it would be far more unique and useful than Diplocaulus, as you could also get scuba gear when you level up to a point in most servers, but Megalosaurus seems really useful for a surprise raid or something in pvp.
The tablet and journal viewing reminds me of the Uncharted series, where you could inspect relics and such with a 3D model
They fucking cut Breeding Phase 3 out of the patch.
Read the bottom of the description, avid breedera can neuter/spray their dinos. May not be breeding phase 3 but it is a step

Been expecting it too. Welp we'll just have to wait a bit longer. We're lucky they are giving us 3 creatures and extra added content. I waited a while for DireWolves and Dragons to be a thing, I think we can hang in there for our awesome Wolverine Herbivore. I was also looking forward to the Bear Trap Night raiding Predator but oh well whatever makes it easier for the devs and perhaps they have something else in store to come with the Therizinosaurus and Megalosaurus.

i think therizinosaurus will take a while to come to ark cause its ability is to gather wood and the beaver is here to do this so the therizinosaurus has no function on the game right now but one way to make therizinosaurus be special again it would be making it able to cut down the redwood threes

Absolutely amazing, but I'm a bit sad because the megalosaurus was included in the update but has not been released with it. Anyways these new features and creatures are sick! They look amazing! Good job developers!

you should add a ocean dlc were its just one small island and you make a base under water .the boss could be a giant octopus or a squid . and you should add a electric eel that can shock enemies
