    This band are so damn tight... saw them at their first ever UK gig. It was sold out and was probably the best gig I've ever been to in my life!!

    Love the groove the percussionist created to accentuate Sput and Mike. It's very musical and the rhythm sounds like one you'd have in a horn arrangement.

    I love the moment you remember you're ambidextrous and open up on that snare!

  • @JamieSandel
    @JamieSandel 11 років тому +1

    no, that's totally true, especially when you're riffing off of tunes you've already played a billion times.
    I think there is something to be said for the simplicity of a beat when you're building a groove, though.

    What happens to the beat at 0:47-0:52? Part of me thinks he did that on purpose but part of me thinks that even the best of the best screw up every now and then. Hang on, let me listen/watch one more time... It's like the beat is becoming unraveled but he does it so well that he has me fooled into thinking that he might've, dare I say, messed up.

    • @drewper73
      @drewper73 10 років тому +1

      Man, there's a lot going on during the drum and bass break or whatever u wanna call it. 3 over 4 or 4 over 3 polyrhythms. It starts building around 4:00 and they just play with it for a minute.

    • @ShawnSalik
      @ShawnSalik 10 років тому +5

      I think it's just metric modulation man, Sput's displaced his groove by a sixteenth (hihat is ahead and snare drags back) at least that's what it seems like. Someone who knows for sure please clarify

    • @drewper73
      @drewper73 10 років тому +2

      Shawn Salik Right. It's still "in time" which is why I think he did it on purpose. Bill Bruford liked to do that kind of thing with Yes and King Crimson. Beat displacement. I love it.

    • @TheTheorgrin
      @TheTheorgrin 9 років тому +1

      Yeah, I would say it's a beat displacement. He misses his first hit on the snare, though, which is why it might sound like the displacement isn't intentional.

    • @joshjamesuk
      @joshjamesuk 9 років тому +4

      drewper73 He definitely did that on purpose. He was just switching up the beat to a really laid back, behind the beat hip hop groove. I think it sounded fucking awesome!
