I think one of the wonderful things (among many) about Bach is how beautifully his pieces translate to different instruments. I play this piece on my bass clarinet for example and totally enjoy it even if Bach probably never heard a clarinet in his life. Thanks so much for your beautiful and soulful playing too. Found it very inspirational!
Eva, well peformed, as usual. You really are an extraordinary musician. Thanks again for visiting us in Alamosa and I'm dropping in my video response to this just for fun. :)
I have a Gibson L48 that kept breaking strings, so I finally gave in and let it be what it really wanted to be, a mandocello, with four strings. Hidden in the Bach cello suites I found all these wonderful jazz chords and used them to construct new works, in a very Brazilian mode. The journey never ends. This is some beautiful playing. Thanks!
Wonderful! Great transcription too; can't see your right hand in the video but not so easy to go from bowing to flat picking, I'd imagine. Love to hear you play some Granados (Danza Espanola?) on the mandolin or octave mandolin sometime. You are a treasure!
After hearing it on that, the octave mandolin, I think it sounds more appropriate to the cello composition. I hear this a lot on mandolin and play it on mandolin--it sounds almost like something written for the sonatas/partitas on that, but on this, indeed the intent for the cello is more obvious. The fingering is more challenging on this as well. Excellent! ~JSV
Megan that is wonderful. Way beyond my level of play, I am a bit amazed..... I am inspired though.... it may take a couple of years but I will learn it phrase by phrase from your video. Thank you soooo much
Thanks very much. You showed me some new positions which I am looking forward to trying. I have the same instrument but with a natural wood finish. Wonderful instrument and you play great.
Congrats on the new octave mandolin.....and a Weber to booth....I'm jealous ! Actually....also jealous of your playing. Very well done. Thanks for sharing :-)
Wonderful playing, and beautiful sounding instrument, Eva! Does it have the standard Weber OM 22" scale? Sounds marvelous. I'm sure we'd love to hear some Zeppelin-inspired material on that wonderful instrument! Thanks for posting.
So well done!!! I have a medieval bouzouki by Stevens Custom Guitar, Munich Germany. Absolutely gorgeous instrument to look at as well as to play and listen to. I fingerpick using varigated pattern picking. Would love to learn to play like you do tho.
I have heard that piece played on a Mandocello before but not an Octave Mandolin, I very much enjoyed hearing your high quality rendition of it on the octave :) I played guitar for years before playing mandolin, I immediately fell in love with the mandolin and as such am greatly looking forward to getting my own octave :) Thanks for posting

Never imagined one of the Cello Suites would sound so amazing on a mandolin, but it totally works! Masterfully played.
That was WONDERFUL! Bach himself would say "Wunderschön"!
