Hi KawaiiMsp42. If you go back again you might like to know there’s an even more spectacular 2 Day Tongariro Alpine Crossing from Waihohonu, including Mt Tongariro - it's less crowded and offers a unique overview of the Tongariro National Park. Worth considering if you want more time in this thrilling part of New Zealand. Happy & safe hiking☺.

I really enjoyed this video I walked the toangariro crossing Feb 2013 but unfortunately did not make it to the summit wish I had taken the car did not have enough time in-which my fitness let me down as we only had six hours to return to our shuttle due to thee eruption the Ketetahi track was closed it is now open to the public but allow at least 7 to 8 hrs for those who are not fit and take about 4 liters of water so enjoy.

Nice video. I am considering a visit to NZ next year and would like to tackle this trek. Can you give an idea of level of fitness to do this trek? I'm not the fittest person in the world but i wouldn't want to miss such amazing scenery. Thanks.
I am not a regular hiker and was 56 years old when I did this. Pace your trekking according to the suggested time in the official website of the place so as not worry about being late arriving at the other end i.e. Ketetahi hut. I would say that the most challenging part is the Devil’s Staircase (Soda Springs to South Crater) but take it easy and steady and you should be OK . The fantastic view will rejuvenate you again. The only challenge would be the weather. The Tongariro Alpine Crossing was closed the day after we did it due to the bad weather. www.tongarirocrossing.org.nz
