He is one of the most versatile,, keeping in the pocket, that plays bass to compliment the vocalist, and never over plays like a lot of the bass players do. That is one reason why he has always been in great demand, especially on recording sessions.. I am also a professional musician of many years. Bass guitar, lead guitar and keyboard's player., with over 40 plus years experience
Hello Dear Sir. Im probably around 1,000 years old and been playing bass for around 900 years. You have surprised me with your simplicity, and perfect timing! So many will do well with you. I thank you, and I tip my hat 😎.
Just learned about Ready Freddy tonight. He was a part of so many great songs. That’s what friends are for and two hearts are both incredible songs he was a part of too.
@@JazMoss if Donald Fagen and Walter Becker(RIP) appreciate your playing you know you’ve made the top of the tree. Those guys were tough cookies. How about a Chuck Rainey feature? By the way if you like Chuck check out a weird album by Hirth Martinez called Hirth from Earth, there’s some great bass playing from Chuck on that one!
I'm ashamed to admit I have only heard of Freddie Washington this weekend! My favourite is 'Mystery' Anita Baker. 'Been So Long' a close second. Just love the way he walks the bass up and down the scales. He helped the Rapture album bring back the soulfulness in Rnb, deep in the digital 80s.
Just an FYI, there were like 4 or 5 bassist (or more) on that album- the album the made me pick up the bass- not a bad place to start. David B Washington played Mystery and Jimmy Haslip played Been So Long. Neil Stubenhaus played on something on the album, too. But this one and the two you mentioned.... the bombs but the entire album is insane!
Thanks Jaz - my absolute favourite Freddy line (one I believe never yet covered on UA-cam) is Patrice Rushen's 'The Funk Won't Let You Down'. An amazing piece of work by Freddy, showcasing his repertoire of timing, tone & touch... check it out!
Awesome playing! Less importantly, but one can't but notice it: your sound is superb. That neck pickup sounds almost like a P-Bass, great clout and yet there's definition. Are those the original Fender pickups?
They’re are the standard Fender pickups. I like the sound of a jazz bass with the neck pickup turned up a bit cause it sounds like a P bass but a bit more pointy… if that makes sense haha 😊
Hey Bro Great Stuff Could You Please Do A Video On Paul Jackson Herbie Hancocks Bassist With The Headhunters Hugely Underated And Always Overlooked R.I.P 👌👍✌️😎
@@JazMoss Thanks Bro Highly Appreciated 🙏 Please Don't Leave Out God made Me Funky And If You've Got It Ull Get It He Has So Many Great Basslines On The Headhunters Albums Peace Be With You Brother 🙏✌️👍👌😊
It would definitely have to be forget me nuts because the baseline does so much(bass line breakdown). There is no guitar line in the song just keys, drums, bass, vocals, and a sax solo. Always thought Prince played the baseline. You can definitely hear him doing background vocals. I definitely believe Prince learned something from this dude. “All This Love”, by the Debarge is a classic track that could have made the list.
Hey buddy. I'm somewhere around 1,000 years old and been playing bass for around 900 years. I started doing studio work when I was 15. I guarantee you, not one of the characters you play for can, nor care whatsoever what type of bass anyone is playing. It really is all about Love and the Groove. Best of luck on your ventures and have a wonderful time 🎉.
Great stuff, but I disagree with the "Forget Me Nots" line...the notes are incorrect...Here is Freddie playing the line: ua-cam.com/video/YuKnHEYh3p0/v-deo.html
Black or white, yellow, green, red, or plain old rainbow! What is the matter with you? I don't play on so many albums because of my color, or more appropriate, lack of color, it's because I believe, it's all about Love and the Groove. Considerate on Love, and the Groove will come. You have the potential to be great, no matter your color, just start with your Love of music 🎶 ❤️. The rest will come.

I was fortunate enough to catch Freddie live with Steely Dan in Montreal, in 2008. What a concert! Freddie and Keith Carlock killing it.
Disco-Funk-Soul = Immortal Music!

“Forget Me Nots” is the Ultimate bass line, for me!
It's a classic for a reason!
_...for you?_
@@pangeaproxima3681 Maybe not for you but it is his most classic bassline
That and the song " Number One" off of that same album
@@JazMoss That and the instrumental Number One off of the same album

We personally know Freddie through friends. Nice to know that he has great bass lines. Great bass lines that made great songs last the test of time.
very good job, a great player so underrated
Well this is awesome. Double stop slides on Same old Love just sounds good, looks good, and are super tasty! 😊😊😊
Yeah I never noticed the double stop until I started to transcribe the bass part 😊
More Freddie for Everyone !!! Pure Joy !!!
My Fav is Henderson's This Band is Hot ;)

Thank you for highlighting one of my heroes. On my top 10: All or Nothing at All. From Al Jarreau Heart’s horizon.
His work with DeBarge “All this love”
Forget-me-nots and Anita Baker and really everything he does is just brilliant
Great Selection! Starting to like Freddie' style more and more as a reference point💥
Great video Jaz, some interesting albums to check out there. Thank you!
Thanks Mark 😊 Freddie is defiantly not as well know but certainly a phenomenal bass player and producer!

First video I’ve seen of yours, that top down bass neck view right above the sheet music is so nice. Great stuff 👏
Ah nice thanks I'll keep that in mind for future videos!
That's fyah bro~@@JazMoss
What’s amazing about Freddie is that he solved the Same Ole Love timing problem..his bass transitions quite well.
The whole time I thought that was Nathan East on the A. B. records…thanks for sharing.
Yeah there were serious bass lines in those 80's Anita Baker songs.
Just an FYI, there were like 4 or 5 bassist (or more) on that album- the album the made me pick up the bass- not a bad place to start. David B Washington played Mystery and Jimmy Haslip played Been So Long. Neil Stubenhaus played on something on the album, too. Thanks for this great educational and informative video. God bless you.
No worries I love making these videos 😊 I’m glad you found it helpful!

Very nice video, I tried the link it’s doesn’t open , other small question is you bass is a Fender jazz Ultra ?
Love the video! Thank you! What strings on your bass?
Great sound!!!
Dunlop super bright 😊
Forget me nots
these fast octave disco are harder than they seem
Very nice video, I love your channel, is your fender ultra or ?
Yes it’s a Fender Elite which I believe is now called an Ultra… not 100% sure if they changed the name 😊
@JazMoss yes they did. It's now the ultra. But who cares? It's all about Love and the Groove. I tip my hat
0:03 From the first sec of the rhythm I thought it was
the beginning of the "Smooth Criminal" 😵💫uh oh
George Duke - Games
cool bro
how could mess up "forget me nots" that bad? you were doing pretty good with the rest !
Awesome playing! Less importantly, but one can't but notice it: your sound is superb. That neck pickup sounds almost like a P-Bass, great clout and yet there's definition. Are those the original Fender pickups?

Thanks for your answer. Absolutely love your sound. Is this jazz bass a specific run/reissue?
Patricia Rushing, Forger me nots
Are you sure to play the right notes on Forget me nots?
The Forget Me Not bass line is off😑. Just listen to him do it himself on his own UA-cam channel.
Dude, how can you leave out his most iconic bass line?.....are you kiddin me.......
Freddie only used his Fender PBass (with bartollini pickups and badass bridge(for brighter sound)) for most of these records

Great info. what software are you using to show the notes, frets and tabs?
thank you! I'm using Soundslice :-)
Drop D erasure on Morph the Cat 😔(technically it's played on a 5-string but Drop D works too)
DeBarge's i Like it
How about Jocelyn Brown's Somebody Else's guy killer slap line ?
Love that bass line great suggestion! 😀
Love that tune! 🎵
I cannot Watch a Freddie video on a jazz bass
