I noticed several times while you were cutting you actually cut pieces off of the pattern. Would this not then make the pattern useless for multiple projects?
I did this the first time I made anything out of leather, but straight away I could see the obvious flaw - probably because my day job at the time called for very high accuracy. I now cut straight around the pattern directly and the accuracy is amazing. I recently cut out 100 wallet pockets from a perspex template, I stacked the up as I went and they are identical. They definitely wouldn’t have been if I’d been tracing around the pattern with a scratch awl then cutting out by eye using a ruler. Another very useful video! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Ah! This was my biggest “rookie mistake” too. It took me so long to figure out why my pieces weren’t square or lining up! Another tip is to make your patter with a couple pieces of cardstock, tape the pattern to your piece with scotch tape, and then cut along the pattern using the thickness of the edge as a guide
Hi Will, thanks for the video! Imo it’s way easier to copy your pattern to regular paper, roughly cut it out and scotch tape it down to your leather. Then you can punch the holes precisely and follow the lines of the pattern easily when cutting it out.
Just subscribed. Feeling a bit silly that my issue was this simple, but thankful for the wake up call. If you don’t mind, is the kiridashi knife you’re using in the video, commercially available or from a particular custom knifemaker? Perhaps self-made?
I’ll try but I’m partially deaf and struggle differentiating between different sounds. If my channel gets big enough I wanna higher a video editor to sort out my audio
@@WillHodgesIgnore them Will, you’ve already explained why you sometime have sound issues. It’s not a problem, we’re grateful that you make these videos and appreciate that it can be more challenging for you than for someone who doesn’t have hearing loss.

Thank you for sharing Will...and your hard work for doing so.

That’s a really good idea too

@@WillHodgesAlso, there’s no issues with the sound on this video. So not sure what they’re referring to.
I tried to watch this video, but its just so much waffle. TLDR: dont mark your patterns out with an awl, cut straight from the pattern.
Thanks!
Solving a problem that doesn't exist
Maybe to you it doesn’t
@@WillHodges LOL because people can't figure out what side of thin line to cut? what are they using to make the line a spray can?
you are cool man
