      @@cranjismcbasketball8113 Thank you very much my friend. So I work for an airline as a Onsite Support technician, and we basically provide first level support for the airline office workers. So basically if they have ANY questions regarding their notebooks or any other mobile device (wheter its a hardware question or software question) we try to help and fix the problem. We also maintain the work station of the emloyees and check if the working station is usuable (check network connectivity etc.) and if for example one work station does not have internet connection I need to check the reason why. So I may need to enter the server room and check the patch cables. This channel has helped me BIG TIME to learn these skills.

      @@PowerCertAnimatedVideos please make on what TLL, bytes, time in ping command.

    • @itsTraco
      @itsTraco 5 років тому +20

      @@Hidden_Compound
      TTL = Time To Live. Every time your data packet is being forwarded by a router (so called "hop") this number will be decreased until it reaches the value zero. After that the packet is being dropped which will end in a request time out.
      Bytes = A unit of measurement in IT. 1 Byte equals to 8 bit. A bit is the smallest size of information, it can be either 0 or 1. This has got to do with the dual number system (aka binary numbers) as opposed to the decimal number system (0 to 9, every other number is a combination of those). In this case it is the size of our ping request data packet.
      Time = Literally the time that has passed to get back to you. Measured in milliseconds (1/1000 of a second).
      That is the best explanation I can come up with. Hope it helps a little. :)

Sometimes, i find it hard to get techs to understand that ping isn’t the 100% black and white but more as a troubleshooting tool to be used with other information. In my office, we joke about the “its not dns” the way that Dr House refers to lupus. It’s never DNS until it is DNS. Lol

    Pretty good. Lacking in one respect. I remember the first time I needed to test an iSCSI environment. You mention the switches without giving the viewer any idea why you would need switches. In my case, I needed to test the jumbo frame communications between devices. It took me a bit of research before I found that I could use the -size parameter of ping to test it. I get it that your target audience isn't someone that will have any clue about jumbo frames. But it can be useful information.
